Newcastle United today released the new away strip for next season, with new sponsors Wonga shown on the shirt.
Here is the new away goalkeeper strip for next season – worn by Rob Elliot
Stuart Middlemiss, Head of Retail at Newcastle United, had this to say today about the new strip:
“The new away kit has a very distinctive look and the initial feedback we have had about the design and feel from players has been very positive.” “We are delighted to be offering fans the opportunity to purchase their kit ahead of their summer holidays. I’m sure it will prove to be extremely popular.”
Roger Harrison, Marketing Director at PUMA UK, said the following:
“Newcastle United have one of the most iconic home shirts in British football. Our challenge was to deliver an away shirt that both enhanced player performance and inspired fans to wear it with pride.” “We’re proud to achieve both requirements with the integration of Dry Cell technology and our Spirit graphic.”
And finally, Darryl Bowman, Marketing Director at Wonga.com, had this to say:
“It’s great to finally see our brand on a Newcastle United shirt and we’re looking forward to our sponsorship officially starting on Monday, 20th May.” “We’ll be kicking it off with something special to celebrate the return of St. James’ Park and there’s lots more planned for Newcastle’s huge and loyal fan base over the coming season.”
The strip below is what we released a couple of days ago and it’s close – very close – to what the new away strip turned out to be – how’s that for pure luck. 😀
Let us know what you think of the new strips.
Comments welcome.
Note – We’ve been told there’s going to be a minute’s applause for Steve Harper in the 37th minute of the game on Sunday – that’s his number – and it’s in appreciation of Steve’s 20 years at the club and all he’s done for Newcastle – we should be 2-0 up by then too – please pass this on to those attending the game on Sunday against Arsenal.

Second paragraph there is quite interesting. Wonder what he means.

Comment #8Yeah the keeper kit is incredibly bright. Apparently bright keeper tops make strikers aim their shots more at the keeper cause it’s all they see in their peripherals, hopefully that’ll be true 😀

Comment #10Dont like the keeper kit no.
But I couldnt really give a monkeys about the keeper kit.
However I do like the home strip. I like how they have used the light blue from the Wonga logo within the strip. It gives the impression that the logo wasnt just slapped on at the end, but was used throughout the design process. Just looks better than the red virgin logo slapped on there.

Comment #12They look alright simple keeps the basic nufc crest colors.
@tinman from previous
Agree.
From corners AND set pieces we aim at our CB and hope they can redirect. This hasn’t worked since the championship. I hate it long time. Get it in the area with as much pace as possible n hope for the best. Dont overcomplicate it.
We did do this against QPR in fairness though n got the closest to a goal from a corner as we’ve been all season.

Comment #18Anyone think that a keeper kit is supposed to be bright?
If Krul is charging at a striker in that he will catch their eye and possibly distract them enough to put them off the shot.
Spoof

Comment #19T-P, to go to a higher level would imo, take heavy investment, we would need a good manager an a good owner, the former would be wasted without the latter, so the way I see it, our hopes for next season is possibly the max that we could get to with the current regime.

Comment #21Could it be that Wonga’s surprise is sponsorship used to buy Carroll?
A really good attempt to sway the fans by getting the stadium name back and a new striker eh

Comment #23their is now only one think missing from this kit.
that thing is strings Wonga use puppet in their adverts Ashley likes puppets as a manager and probably players too. so with strings Ashley has full comtrol of their style for him to sell for big money while Wonga have new puppets for their adverts.

Looking at this situation and our current squad, do you think we will hit a target of top 8? I’v got every belief we will. We won’t suffer another season like this one in my own personal opinion. Pardew or not we will hit those targets should Derek and Charnley learn from their mistakes or Mike Ashley for that matter. This season we have more investment into the squad also with extra revenue from TV money.
Ah chelsea have just arrived at the Amsterdam Arena. If only man eh!!

Comment #30What’s everyone’s opinion on Rooney then? Think we’ll get him?
I can’t see it, but it’s a possibility the more and more I think about it. Pardew wants British players, we’re getting the Wonga plus TV money, big publicity for sports direct, shirt sales etc.
The only things that make it seem unrealistic is the wages and the fact that Rooney probably wouldn’t want to come here, I mean why would he?

Comment #35Borussia Dortmund have Cisse on their list as a possible replacement for Robert Lewandowski, most of us would agree that we need 1 possibly 2 strikers to come in, if Cisse goes, we would need 2 possibly 3 to come in, would we get 3 good strikers to join us, letting Cisse go would be a massive mistake, he may not be perfect but still has 13 this term whilst playing half the season as a winger, and don’t forget that he has had 6 wrongly disallowed, he is still a good striker, and we must keep him

No doubts I’d have him. But can you really see MA paying out those wages? It takes us long enough to sort out £30,000, £40,000 a week contracts.
