When Sylvain Marveaux arrived from Rennes on a free transfer two years ago – just one day after Demba Ba signed on for the club – we thought Sylvain was going to be an excellent signing – and he would add some class to the Newcastle side.
Sylvain Marveaux has looked a very good player this season
But before he arrived on Tyneside, Sylvain had struggled with injuries at Rennes, and had missed the last seven months of that season with a groin strain, and for his first season on board, Sylvain suffered a number of groin and other injuries, and didn’t play too many games.
He only appeared 10 times for Newcastle last season, but this season he has appeared 35 times with two goals, and he’s looked like the player we thought we had signed two years go.
Sylvain is probably the most improved player in the squad, and is one of the few players at Newcastle, who have played better this season then last.
Sylvain has been out recently with a groin strain, but returned to the squad last Sunday at QPR, but was surprisingly not brought on in the second half of that game – Gabby Obertan was preferred.
But it seems that Alan Pardew will use Marveaux in our last game against Arsenal tomorrow, and the Newcastle manager had this to say about the skillful French forward:
“We’ve missed Sylvain,” “The fact that he’s back is great news. He could be important for us. We didn’t need him last week, but this could be a different scenario. He’ll certainly play a part.”
Sylvain could again have a big impact next season, when we are hoping the side will be challenging for a top six position, although we need at least two new strikers this summer – so we don’t struggle so much to score goals.
We think Sylvain is the most improved player at Newcastle this season, and he leads in assists at the club this season with six, and Davide Santon is second with four assists.
