The Newcastle team against Arsenal today is almost as expected, with Steven Taylor coming back in to partner Fabricio Coloccini in central defense, after he missed the game at QPR through illness.
Mike Williamson doesn’t even make the bench today and as expected veteran goalkeeper Steve Harper will start his final game for Newcastle, after twenty years at Newcastle, with young Jak Alnwick on the bench.
Steve Harper is also captain for the day, in this his 199th and final game for the club.
Newcastle will line up in a 4-3-3 formation with the front three being Ben Arfa, Papiss Cisse and the in form Yoan Gouffran.
This is the final game of a very disappointing Premier League season, and we hope the lads can get a win – so we can at least finish fairly high up in the table – and get that non-playing staff that £1M bonus to share.
For Arsenal Mikel Arteta starts in midfield – after looking like he would miss the game, after coming off injured last Tuesday night in the 4-1 win at home to Wigan.
We need the win today.
Howay The Lads!!
Teams:
Newcastle: Steve Harper (c); Mathieu Debuchy, Steven Taylor, Fabricio Coloccini, Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa; Yohan Cabaye, Cheick Tiote, Jonas Gutierrez; Hatem Ben Arfa, Papiss Cisse, Yoan Gouffran
Substitutes: Jak Alnwick, Danny Simpson, James Perch, Vurnon Anita, Sylvain Marveaux, Gabriel Obertan, Adam Campbell
Arsenal Wojciech Szczesny; Bacary Sagna, Per Mertesacker, Laurent Koscielny, Kieran Gibbs; Mikel Arteta, Aaron Ramsey; Tomas Rosicky, Santi Cazorla, Theo Walcott; Lukas Podolski
Substitutes: Lukasz Fabianski, Nacho Monreal, Thomas Vermaelen, Jack Wilshere, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Gervinho, Olivier Giroud

Comment #8299% of people would have Tiote and Jonas dropped for Anita and Marv? They are completely different players, fair enough make the change if we’re losing and need to throw the kitchen sink at someone, but not from the start.
Anita is too small to be a PL holding midfielder, whereas Tiote may have had a poor season due to trying to tame his game, you can still guarantee Cazorla and co would much rather have a run at Anita than Tiote.
Marv has zero defensive work rate and I see him as more of an impact player, plus whenever I have seen him play wide left he just can’t get into the game, totally anonymous.

Let’s not twist the facts to suit whether we like or dislike Pardew. Bigi was terrible at RW but that was to be expected as he’s not a RW.
Pardew should never have played him there, but he was certainly not good at RW

i would rather have a top left winger in for walcott to worry about.
jonas can only defend, he offers nothing going forward

Comment #87i have to say to anyone who call himself a fan , who dislikes pardew manager skills and wants him out – i think the most stupid thing is saying it everyday without doing anything. What do you wait? Are you afraid of? Do you think supporting the team and the manager are equal things?
If not-why these who can attend live games don’t express public their opinion. What? I’m not doing anything, because I’m alone. Then you are just associater !!! And deserve to have Pardew anyday !!!
If i lived in England I would put my ” Pardew out” flag every game from Reading one in december to this day. Even I were the only one at SJP- this is my club , my position and have the right to say what i want !!
other s???
I wish you good game, that’s from me

Comment #91archeomag… you may be right mate but it does feel like we invite the pressure more. we never kick on and score another and another its just score……. oh theyve scored…. haha i think this is epitomised by the biggest win being 3-0 this season against wigan with 10 men

Comment #93Turkish Mag – Pardew is mad because he isn’t dropping one of two senior, established strikers – one of whom scored the winning goal to keep us up 7 days ago – and replacing them with a 17 year old rookie – who was prematurely promoted to the senior squad – and with about 15 minutes of PL experience under his belt against 4th placed Arsenal?
You’re joking right?

Comment #94Just reading through some of the comments on here , taking note of the arguments relating to anyone reporting back to Ed if they are not happy with what is said to them ..
I think its Childish both ways ..sort it out yerselves ..you don’t need bother Ed with your disputes …
You should be adult enough to resolve matters without giving Ed any more headaches ..Its Petty on both sides of any argument here.
People use words they don’t really mean towards one another , and most of it should be taking with a pinch of salt. You should all give your heads a shake.
Behave yerselves !

He doesn’t necessarily but when they have played i think our win/ ratio would be high compared to with willo. Saylor is more than competent defender and i think if you were a true geordie who actually attends games you would understand like everyone i know..

We invite pressure when we loose the ball – many of the flair/attacking players – taking on 3 defenders – are the worse for conceding possession.
Tiote has got a bit casual which is not good in a DM.

yes i know that we dont have a top winger but would rather give them something to think about and play marv even though not a left winger as such. wouldnt play jonas just because he can defend.
at least marv would offer you something going forward.

Such perfectly poised pure poetry cannot fail to uplift the spirit, delight the senses and soothe the heavy heart. Once again you have proved the pen is mightier than the clout around the ears with a stiff yardbrush when it comes to our beloved manager; then again maybe not.
Close second, though.

Comment #105Im just saying let Adam Campbell have a run out, its last game of the season, we got nothing to lose. Not like Pardew is going to suddenly sort out his negative tactics and play proper football. Why not allow Danny play last game for the club? he was on form against but got dropped against liverpool and QPR.

Marv has been very poor when he’s played on the wing and Walcott would have a field day going up against Mapou who is still settling into the league

He certainly patronises the people that support Newcastle United .
Always seems to talk down to uz Supporters on Issues he is not happy with ..makes underhanded crafty comments that can be taken a few ways , but we know he’s having a dig really, as he would not say it .
He seems to me to be from a culture in the south that looks upon Northern folk/Geordies as coming from a country bumpkin backwater ,and his patter stinks, to use layman’s terminology .
He talks to we fans as though we are from the low IQ club..anyone noticed this ?

Comment #116We need to see 100% commitment from every man in a black and white shirt. Another display like the Liverpool game will be too much to take. No pressure on us so no excuse not to go for the win. Alot of players need to prove they are the real deal by matching the Arsenal lads. As much as I want rid of Pardew, I still would rather we got at least a draw today as it would make the players who came in January think more positively about next season’s possibilities. HWTL
