Coloccini Talks As If He’s Staying On Tyneside

Some good words from the Newcastle captain Fabricio Coloccini on the Newcastle web-site today – and just reading what he says – you wouldn’t think he could be leaving the club this summer – but perhaps we are reading too much into it.

Fab Coloccini - training

Coloccini – leading the training at Newcastle – please stay!

This is what Colo said today:

“It was disappointing to lose, of course, but they were fighting for the Champions League while we didn’t play for anything, just trying to get three points for the fans.”

“But I think Sunday was a very good game because maybe we showed that we can fight against the big teams. We have to prepare for next season and play like we did on Sunday: to be compact and aggressive.”

“I think next season, if the team play like that, we can be higher in the table.”

That doesn’t sound like a man who would be leaving the club this summer, but of course you never can tell.

But it would be a huge coup if Newcastle can persuade the captain to stay on Tyneside.

It’s obvious he is a leader on and off the field for Newcastle,  and he’s been missed big time this year with that back injury he picked up against Southampton, and of course he’s been captain now for two years since Kevin Nolan left for West Ham.

coloccini house party

Colo’s house party last week – forging team spirit at Newcastle

We really hope Colo will stay at Newcastle, and it would be a huge lift if Newcastle can announce early in the summer that Colo is staying.

That would give the fans a much-needed lift,  and with Colo in the team,  he could certainly lead us to another top six finish next season.

What do you think?

He mentions the team, he doesn’t really suggest he will be part of it? Kind of a non-story here. I hope he stays for what its worth.

I expect Tiote Cabaye and Cisse to leave this summer. But i doubt we can get 15mill for Tiote. He has been that terrible.

@post 2 – somebody suggested a couple of weeks ago, that with a good solid break, and a decent pre-season Tiote will be back to the player he was. I sincerley hope they are correct, as I do miss last seasons Tiote.

Thing is if colo stays how much longer can we expect good consistent performances out of him? Dont get me wrong he’s a great defender but centre backs tend to age worse than jackie Stallone. Its easy to forget he’s 31. Might be better to look for a replacement regardless of whether he stays or not.

  • I hope he does stay, he’s such an intelligent, composed footballer.

One of if not the greatest cb to play for us. Would be a big loss but I would understand if it’s to move home with his family.

    @Markaccus previous article,

Haha, no worries. That gave me such a good laugh. Its been a bit of a blessing, late night beers and football with my old man and someone to sit with the dog when im at work. Starting a better job next month so fingers crossed I’ll have my own place and more importantly a bed in no time at all! 😀

@ 4, I hope you are right, but he really does nothing to suggest that he will (or wont for that matter) be here next season. Seen lots of these comments from footballers over the years and they are kind of meaningless in terms of where they intend to ply their trade next season.

Rainrix…’ defenders age worse than jackie stalone’…. you mean they have multiple botched face-lifts and end up looking like the love child of colonel gadaffi and harry redknapp?

Would be good to have him…

Lads, could you identify all the lads on the picture?

I got Cabaye with a grey shirt on the right, and also on the right near the top corner, James Perch with Shola at his right and at the end of the table.

Sure, we got Colo and beside him, Gouffy and Mbiwa.

    Who are the others?

I think Colo’s mentally in right place after his ‘injury/leave of absence’. He was shite when he was dealing his personal problems. Lets hope he does stay as CBs of his qualities is rare in the North East. Prefer Mbiwa partnering Colo. Having said that, if Willo had played yday, he would have cleared that corner & Arsenal would have crumbled as the game goes on. I’m not a fan Steven Taylor

I’m liking the new look in that Messianic Hokey-Cokey pic. I would like him to stay on for a season to drill the new CB general (Yanga) on proper backline leadership. Colo is probably one of the slower backs but his vision and positional sense (experience) make up for it. Give that experience to our new lad and with a couple of new defenders things will look up. Start in this department first, the midfield will then be able to be built from there, starting with why we have a cross-field runer of box-to-box mayhem like Sissoko playing in front of a linking midfielder like Cabaye, perhaps. The forward line can be any number of options if we get those right.

Has free speech returned or are we still bullying? Oh and Markaccus – if you want to learn blog killing at the top level either I or nufc786 will be happy to demonstrate a masterclass in Applied Blogicidal Tactics and Techniques. You can do an online course leading to a Masters. 😀

I can promise you all this much…who stays and who goes all depends on who the manager is next year.

If Pardew stays we lose Colo, Tiote, Anita, Cabaye and HBA.

If Pardew goes we stand a chance of keeping the squad together and playing some decent football challenging the top half of the league

I guess Colo’s agent knows what the chances of an Argentinian club coming in with a bid are.

    Reality and contracts.
    I’d like him to stay.
I’d like somebody better than him.
I’d like someone a lot better than him.
    Okay Colo will do.
    Reality and Ashley.

I think the Comments made by Colo are due to an error in translation.

He’ll be away in the summer.

Unfortunately he’ll not be only one. Watch Cabaye, Krul and Tiote head for the exits and who can blame them.

We’ll be left with the dross (Shola & Obertan) and it’ll be extremely difficult for us to attract any decent players.

I wonder how much longer Carr will be prepared to flog his guts out identifying players for us, only for Pardew to turn them all into defensive midfield players.

We need a shake out from the top down, i.e. Llambias, Pardew and the coaching squad.

If you think that this was a bad season, given that Pardew has learnt nothing, next season will see us firmly in the bottom 3 with no away wins.

perhaps if we persuade colo to stay until jan which could give carr alot of time to pin point a colo replacement that will have the potential to be better than colo

also there is much more to come from mbiwa….
once the lad has a greater grasp of english and fully adapts to the epl which will come from more games….
    the lad will shine

he was top class at lb
he has played across all postions of defence rb at anzhi lb for a couple of games and cb

Yeah I dont think we will get PEA now he would be ideal for us but its probably not going to be

Huddlestone is a good player but he is not a player we need we need wingers badly a left winger and a right winger are a must we need proper British wingers who will run up and down the wing all day , trackback like Jonas and be able to deliver a great ball in as well

A few of those type of wingers that I have seen this season could possibly do a pretty good job :

    Ince 8 million max
Redmond 4 million plus Sammy/Vuckic on loan
    Snodgrass 5 million
Weimann (also as a striker too) 4 million
Puncheon Free transfer (better than Obertan!)

There are other players but I long to see the days of us having a Keith Gillespie esque winger back in the team who just stays wide and when they get the ball just beat the full back and whip it in no fannying about Cisse and Gouffran would thrive on that kind of service

I have also quite enjoyed seeing Mbiwa at full back but if we can get Colo to stay they should be the starting centre backs with Taylor , Williamson, Good and Perch as back ups

Santon should be moved further forward he is a decent defender but he will be so much better moved further forward as proved against Wigan he can glide past players probably better than Arfa at times and has a good shot but we will probably sell him to an Italian team who will play him there and he will become amazing ah well

Also would anyone take a punt on Jordan Rhodes? has everything in his locker to be a number 9 just as good as Carroll in the air , can hold it up, is great at linking the play and scores every type of goal known to man !

if colo leaves the club… we need a proper leader like barton/nolan

the english who might not be as blessed with so much technical ability like spanish and german players but they have an abudence of passion and grit like
that 4-4 draw springs to mind…
