This Striker Top Of The List This Summer

8:45 am, Monday, May 20th, 2013 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 48 Comments

Alan Pardew will meet with Mike Ashley and Derek LLambias this week to sort out what needs to be done this summer, but a 5th bottom finish in the Premier League will make it that much harder to attract top players to Tyneside.

Andy Carroll – coming home?

Newcastle don’t need too many players, since we already have some good players in the squad, if only they could keep fit – and Alan is saying today we need two or three top players brought in

This is what the manager said in the local press today:

“We still need to make sure we get two or three recruits in there which take us forward.” “If we can do that, they’ll grow as well, and we’ll be much, much better next year.”

“You hear managers taking about needing three players to make the perfect side, but we genuinely need a couple in the first team that complement the others.”

“We’re very lucky to have the fans – we mentioned that in the dressing room after the game.” “There were 52,000 again. I said to them – even if we’d gone down, there’d still be 52,000.”

“We’ve got to serve up better than what we’ve served up this year.”

You can say that again.

And the Newcastle fans were again as patient as ever yesterday, and did not boo the players or anything like that – because it was clear the lads were giving everything they had.

it’s just a pity we couldn’t get a win to end the season on a more positive note.

It’s understood that a certain Andy Carroll is high on the list of potential recruits this summer, and that’s because Andy would give us back something we haven’t had this season – a threat from set plays into the box.

We hope we can get him back, but we also need another striker to help out Papiss Cisse with the job of putting that ball into the back of the net.

What do you think?

I’d take ONE quality manager instead of Pardew’s 2-3 players

    PARDEW OUT

  • 2 Rainrix // May 20, 2013 at 8:48 AM

No point in having strikers if you cant create anything. We need wingers more than we need strikers. Our team even at full strength is horribly unbalanced.

    Kevy

Do you mean with no shots on goal !!!! same old, same old.

You must have an incredibly high tolerance and pain threshold.

    Ed

We need 3 new players (P.E.A, Sakho and a.n.other) and ONE NEW MANAGER

  • 4 Rotonda heights // May 20, 2013 at 8:49 AM

Carrol and Pardew = Stoke !!!

  • 5 Santon03 // May 20, 2013 at 8:52 AM

IF our play needs to have 2 wingers with great dribbling skills, we actually already have them : Santon and HBA.
Hopefully SAnton play as wingers and let MYM play as LB, I believe Santon will give more contribution than Jonas or Gouffran as LW.

  • 6 sparky55 // May 20, 2013 at 8:53 AM

but pulis can and will keep stoke up year after year after year..pardew’s only prolific at keeping his knob up with stupid young blondes

  • 7 kevymartins // May 20, 2013 at 8:53 AM

We need 3 players? more like 3 strikers since he always plays cisse up by himself and gouff on the wing.

  • 8 Indian Magpie // May 20, 2013 at 8:55 AM

Would suit pardew down to the ground, when he gets us knocked out of FA cup in january and he has a match every 2 weeks.

No tiredness excuses only boredom excuses.

Remember during Kharkiv games we had no PL games. still we had the priviledge of watching NUFC

  • 9 Rainrix // May 20, 2013 at 8:55 AM

Santon…. Well i agree santon would make a great winger. However i dont see pardew ever having the gonads to play him further up. I’d love to see it but i dont think it’ll happen.

HBA to me drifts to much into the centre to be a true winger. You can tell he wants to be in the middle in that no 10 role.

  • 10 kevymartins // May 20, 2013 at 8:57 AM

And what is he gona do about cm next year?

Anita played amazing when he came on yesterday and I love the way he plays…so there is cabaye tiote anita perch sissoko. Just hope he stops playing sissoko on the wing..gona be hard to pick 2 from that though.

  • 11 Sinner // May 20, 2013 at 8:57 AM

We should try to sign Gameiro, Menez and Sakho. All 3 are not having much game time at PSG.

  • 12 Indian Magpie // May 20, 2013 at 8:57 AM

I genuinely cannot Understand what Jonas Does in the team.

Gouffran gets taken off, Yanga Mbiwa gets taken off?

Jonas can’t create from left wing/MF how will he create from LB which Mbiwa was doing.

I guess we have our stewart downing

    kevy@8

Good morning gents. If only we played all season like we did yesterday.———–we would be relegated. Not 1 shot at goal in 90 mins —- mmm

  • 14 Indian Magpie // May 20, 2013 at 8:59 AM

    Kevy

Next year he will put Anita on campbell or vice versa to make them into one player.

  • 15 Santon03 // May 20, 2013 at 9:04 AM

    Rainrix

We saw Santon as a winger once against wigan and he scored, but that’s about it. pardew consistantly play him as LB and put Jonas up front which baffles me. It’s probably why we didn’t score goals, because pardew put creative players to do more defensive duties and non creative players as attackers.

Someone must hit pardew in the head really hard, because there is something wrong in his head.

  • 16 Tsunki // May 20, 2013 at 9:05 AM

Oh good another AC Article. Slow news day then ha ha.

  • 17 Jail for Ashley // May 20, 2013 at 9:09 AM

    Ian Toon ,
For the record, although there was no booing at the game which I didn’t think there would be unless we got hammered,my thanking Pardew for our second worst PL position was heavy with sarcasm as was the wish for him to be here next year to repeat the process.

  • 18 Bearsize // May 20, 2013 at 9:10 AM

Even if pardew is backed heavily with new players he will still pick the same starting 11 every week. Thats why the players look so tired there is no tinkering. Unless he is forced through injury. SAF benitez wenger ect.. All tinker and it works for them. Some of our players could have had a lot more experiance this year but no pardew has his 11 knights. Glad anita came on he showed what great feet he has. Anita must be the most frustrated player in that squad, how he is so far down the pecking order ill never know, or wait a minute its pardew, he doesnt like good players. Pards out, hopefully mikes got a trick up his sleeve but i doubt it!

  • 19 Rainrix // May 20, 2013 at 9:10 AM

Santon…. Yup wigan was one of his best games he looked lethal. I reckon he’d be able to do some really good link up play with debuchy haidara or MYM depending on whos there. Plus it eliminates the possibility of those moments of madness santons prone to. Again theres a stumbling block in the form of alan pardew.

  • 20 stuart no9 // May 20, 2013 at 9:11 AM

we started off playing decent football yesterday, ok no really atacking threat , but we played some nice flowing football for 30 mins, ,so,, what has pardew been telling them all season that has made them play so poor untill the last game of the season. he has obviously put the fear of god into them every week as everyone thought he had done . they must have hated every minute of this season.
do they want that again? idoubt it . some big names will be gone , unless he goes,

  • 21 Jail for Ashley // May 20, 2013 at 9:12 AM

There’ll be a lovely mood in the camp seeing as the laundry man and tea lady lost out on their bonuses while the played drive off in their Ferraris and Aston Martin’s.

  • 22 bob52 // May 20, 2013 at 9:12 AM

Two very good opportunities from Hatem and Cisse both clear shots but wide of goal, why the comments of no shots in 90 minutes. Yanga was taken off because he was knackered stifling Walcott and covering at corners, Goufron was our most effective striker so his substitution was a surprise. All in all a positive effort all round yesterday against a top top side who were not allowed to play their flowing game.

  • 23 Jamseyd24 // May 20, 2013 at 9:13 AM

Does anybode know of a good left footed winger who can go past defenders and deliever, someone in the mold of Robert. I feel we miss a natural left sided player.

  • 24 Indian Magpie // May 20, 2013 at 9:13 AM

We don’t send our clubs to olympics, friendlies and Acon too

    No shots on target

  • 26 Transfer Sage // May 20, 2013 at 9:14 AM

    please come on,

what in pardews style of play says we need Andy? lump it long? maybe, but the fact is, to play that way you need the MF to start flooding the box,
pardew commits no extra bodies , always thinking defence

    please leave

  • 30 Ibizatoon - Back By Popular Demand // May 20, 2013 at 9:17 AM

    Morning all,

So how’s the general mood? Not an embarrassing performance or result yesterday imo.

Didn’t really expect yesterdays game to alter any general feeling tbh, for the fans or owner.

  • 31 ichrisho // May 20, 2013 at 9:18 AM

Morning All – Woke up from the rage of having to watch that muck yesterday… how many times did we stop in midfield and just look around… there was no runs, no diversions, no calling for the ball… I mean when Anita came on at least we went forward…. I took down the petition as it would have had another negative stain against us fans… Mike Ashley needs to fire him not the fans…. Our job is to support…

  • 32 Indian Magpie // May 20, 2013 at 9:20 AM

    Some one Please tell me

Does tiote slows the game down or is there no movement ahead of him.

  • 33 Santon03 // May 20, 2013 at 9:20 AM

    jamseyd24

we do have those kind of players, but we have pardew as manager. even if we get 5 Laurent Roberts or Ginola, they will all be sitting on the bench watching Jonas plays every week.

  • 34 ichrisho // May 20, 2013 at 9:21 AM

@Catchy – Dude, if we had Carroll ahead of Cisse getting the flick ons to him down the middle and out wide with his hold up play… we then have a route to creating something in the final third… at the moment – we are a “Give-it-to-Benny” team… and he looked tired after 60 mins…

  • 35 Ulster_Toon // May 20, 2013 at 9:22 AM

BBC sport saying west ham already in talks for carroll, bet we miss out on him. Always slow and ponderous in the market

  • 36 Santon03 // May 20, 2013 at 9:23 AM

    Rainrix

Those moments of madness will happen with any players, they happen once or twice in one season. There’s no such thing playing without mistakes under pressure.

  • 37 ichrisho // May 20, 2013 at 9:23 AM

Indian – Theres no movement ahead of him… I think Tiote, Sisssoko, Cabaye and Anita alll have a through ball in their locker… but there is no-one ahead of the midfield bar our deer-stuck-in-headlights striker…

  • 38 catchy in norway // May 20, 2013 at 9:26 AM

    ich

listen to what u just said , flick ons , meaning long ball , meaning by pass the MF , why do we need ball players like sissoko marv cabaye HBA

  • 39 toon22 // May 20, 2013 at 9:27 AM

We keep AP,he has a poor start.MA panics and sacks him.
Who are we going to get a few months into next season?
Another AP thats who as good managers will be at clubs.Theres no way MA is going to pay compen to anyone.
Its going to be a very very long summer :(

  • 40 toonarmydownsouth // May 20, 2013 at 9:29 AM

    AC’s not coming back
Pardew is not getting the sack

    Indian magpie
Do you mean Emre as in Emre who used to play here?
Or Emre can from bayern because he’s a CDM?

  • 41 south coast toon // May 20, 2013 at 9:37 AM

i keep banging on and on lukaka i know chelsea would want alot of money but he looks a solid player to me who can put the ball in the net 20 mil at his age might seem alot but we could have him here for 12 yrs, id rather him than carrol,

  • 42 Jackson1989 // May 20, 2013 at 9:39 AM

think the most annoying thing is the whole we got 4 class CM/CDM in tiote sissoko cabaye and anita, its just how do we get thm playing together, if we were to get a new manager ie rafa we wud be playing 433 every week most likely, and people on here talk about we need a left winger who can score goals whip a ball in and beat a man with epic skills, we arnt going to get PEA becos too many good clubs want him, so 2nd and probs the best choice to start off with is to go for some1 like Mertens, hes an animal

  • 43 BennygivesmeTinglyBalls // May 20, 2013 at 10:35 AM

I hope West Ham sign Carroll soon. Signing Carroll will just give Pardew the oppurtunity to play hoofball, not the fluid attacking football we all wanna see (Aka with Anita, HBA and Marv all in a team, not guti and tiote). I don’t trust Pardew at all. He says we wants experience, we are gonna end up signing some awful players just because they’ve been in the premiership for a few years. Carr is getting some players with great potential and Pardew doesn’t have a clue what to do with them. I can’t imagine the two get on. We need a manager who has the same vision as Carr because Carr is actually gifted at his job unlike Pardew.

  • 44 nufc 11 // May 20, 2013 at 12:20 PM

The problem we have with the fiasco of this season was that instead of building on the squad we have players who are going to want out, I for one have no confidence in AP that he can bring us forward and I think alot of players are looking around and thinking the same, There was notting riding on the game for us yestherday AP was already told his job was safe if I were MA I wud have siad win you stay lose your fired then you would have seen a different game….Im sick of this losing mentality its ok, wel try harder next week, injuries etc cost, we didnt get the striker we wanted bull f@cking shit tripe, where doses it stop…….

  • 45 ToonMatt // May 20, 2013 at 2:16 PM

I would love him back but there is no chance, We can’t compete with the likes of West Ham for transfer fee’s and wages, It’s a shame.

  • 46 barcodejoe // May 20, 2013 at 3:35 PM

Thought crowd response to Steve Harper was superb, think he should be given a job on the coaching staff. 20 years at the TOON.. nice one Steve and thanks

If Raffa had managed this team from the first day of the season we would have finished in the top ten!
