News is coming through that West Ham have agreed to pay £15M to sign Liverpool striker Andy Carroll.
Andy Carroll – he’s not worth £15M
We reported this morning that West Ham were in negotiations with Liverpool and the next step would be to agree the fee, and once that was agreed Newcastle would decide whether to bid for their former striker.
Bur we think West Ham are overpaying for the England forward, by about £5M, and he’s simply not worth £15M and therefore we’d be surprised if Newcastle now move for their former striker.
Sam Allardyce had made the signing of Andy his top priority for the summer, as he had this a couple of days ago:
“It is our target to make it a permanent situation,” he said. “Hopefully we can get somewhere in the near future to do that.” “It’s our main priority. There are negotiations between the club and Liverpool.”
Liverpool will still make a loss of £20M on the player in two and a half years – but on the other hand £15M is still a big fee for Andy – given his form since he left Newcastle.
We think the Hammers are overpaying for Andy, but then again they paid out £10.75 last summer to sign former Wolves winger Matt Jarvis, and he’s not worth anywhere near that amount.
It seems that English players cost an awful lot of money these days – given their skill level.
We would be surprised if Newcastle are interested in Carroll at that price.
Let us know if you would sign Andy for £15M
