Newcastle Send Strong Squad To Defend Sevens Title

Newcastle United have sent a strong squad to try to retain the HKFC Citibank International Soccer Sevens title this weekend, and included in the squad are Sammy Ameobi and James Tavernier, who have both played for the first team.

James Tavernier – will captain the side in Hong Kong

This is the squad that we have sent to Hong Kong, with James Tavernier the captain of the side:

Jak Alnwick, Bradden Inman, Sammy Ameobi, James Tavernier, Paul Dummett, Remie Streete, Rolando Aarons, Michael Richardson, Conor Newton, Steven Logan

Newcastle won all of their six games at the Soccer Sevens on their debut last year, and we won the final by beating Aston Villa 2-1 in the Cup final.

This is what coach Willie Donachie had to say:

“We arrived not expecting too much as we had a very young and inexperienced team,” “But we surprised everyone and went on to win the competition. It proved to be a fantastic experience for all of us and provided many benefits to our young players.”

“Playing against the best is how you learn and coming up against the likes of Manchester City and Aston Villa will really grow these lads as players.”

“More importantly they will grow as people. Seeing Hong Kong, a different culture, spending time at a nice hotel with teammates all helps create unity and togetherness. That’s the beauty of football.”

Adan Campbell is not in the squad because he’s been selected for the England U20 provisional squad for the World Cup in Turkey in late June and July, along with Gael Bigirimana.

Brad Inman had a good loan spell at Crewe Alexandra and he scored 8 goals in 25 appearances, and helped Crewe win the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy final at Wembley.

And Conor Newton has just returned from a very successful loan spell at St, Mirren where, along with Paul Dummett, he helped St. Mirren win the Scottish League Cup.

Manchester City have entered the tournament and are making their tournament debut, and five-time winners Aston Villa return, along with Sunderland, Leicester City and Scottish side Rangers.

i believe we’re defo building a great squad but the word “building” being the important word there lol
but again after a bad season for many reasons and more imo above the players n manager! the answers gonna be sack pardew n start again but i suppose i should be used to it by now

Martinez inherited a strong Wigan side, he then took the backbone out of it to enable pretty passing, and they have now passed their way into the Championship, so no thanks.
The only current manager who I feel we could get who could improve us is Martin Jol, Rafa and the likes would not come, the rest are no better than what we have, Jol, I could go for, but the chances are he might get a bigger transfer kitty from them than what he would get from Ashley, so could we tempt him.

Ben3arfa Luuk de jong scored 25 in his last season in holland but has not settled in germany borrusia dont have the flair players twente have but I think he will be a 15-20 Goal a season in the prem esp if we get his older brother who is the best in ajax scoring over 10 goals from MID/ACM over the last 4 seasons.

is not just goals with andy and even if he only gets 15 goals a season i think it still good value because of all the other atributes he brings at 15 million in todays tranfer market its not really that much money with the new tv money coming in aswel its going to look like a bargain if west ham get him. Unreal the amount of people on here who wouldent want him back

I’m quite new to the site, but already I have learned to ignore or treat with contempt some of the bloggers, the twisting of words and reasonings for their opinions is rather puzzling, and contradictory, but never mind, there are things which are more interesting than them, like the weather forecast.

Donkey – I don’t think its that people dont want him back its that people dont want to pay 15mil for him. If he was half that then yes deffo bring him back but like a lot of people i think their are better options available for 15mil. Thats a hell of a lot of money would be our joint 2nd most expensive player ever.

    Manx,

I think people forget sometimes where this football club actually is at present.

We are 3 seasons back into the premier. We have a small squad, tiny last season to compete in all of what we did.

We don’t have an amazing squad, we don’t have amazing players. We have good players and now have a good bench with bringing in five players in January.

The board has made life very difficult this season for everyone concerned and there isn’t much blame being pointed at them which is wrong.

If you set up a season for failure, what more can you expect?

The blame is a collective effort from the board down to the players, manager and coaching staff.

    Donkey,

My opinion, It’s not that I just don’t want the lad back. Or that I don’t think he would benefit the team.

I just think a different type of forward would bring alot more to the side. A fast and nippy type of forward.

I think you could bring alot more attributes in a forward for that kind of money. Attributes which we dearly miss.

I’d love to see a clinical, fast experienced striker brought in. I doubt it would happen though as I think he has singled this role out for young campbell next season to come off the bench.

Lets start a rumour, and see how far it goes, Pardew has been sacked and it appears as if Martin Jol has resigned from Fulham with Immiediate effect, its believed that Jol is on his way to the North East to thrash out a deal.
I don’t use twitter or Facebook, but someone put it on, either tomorrow or the day after it will be in the papers ?

Good business for the Hammers if it goes through. It will cost that much for a no name forward from Moldovia to play in the premier league next season . i feel fans are comparing cabaye and hba fees and thinking were going to find more bargain like that again . could do but chances are slim and if we did get another bargain player they would need time to settle aswell andy carrol is ready made to start right away

Spoof, I think if you got enough people involved you could make the Sun. Would be a good laugh.

Ever watched the film Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps. That gives you an idea of just how much damage a well spread rumour can do!

On Rafa, just seem to remember he said he would consider a project. Also had reliable information from a mate who knows Ashley that they have had 2 or 3 meetings already. Very likely they will come to nothing, as we probably wouldnt match what he wanted. But there has definitely been interest from both parties, where they are at now, I have no idea. But I would guess wages, transfer funds etc were all problems.
