San Lorenzo Want Coloccini – President To Meet With Newcastle Captain

4:40 pm, Thursday, May 23rd, 2013 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 132 Comments

We were hoping this thing would just go away, and Fabricio Coloccini would be happy to stay at Newcastle and see out the remaining three years of his contract, but it doesn’t look that way, with the San Lorenzo President Matias Lammens saying he will meet with Coloccini to try to get a deal done.

fabricio coloccini training

Fabricio Coloccini – the saga goes on …. and on …

It’s La Cicloneta in San Lorenzo who are reporting the news, and this is what Lammens is quoted as saying:

“I have the intention of meeting with Fabricio and talking about the conditions of his move to San Lorenzo.” We understand Newcastle don’t have too much interest in the summer other than keeping Coloccini in their squad.”

“They’ve managed to escape from the relegation zone, so they’ll now think about what is best for the player, that need to go back home.”

That’s a rather strange statement – but we suppose Mike Ashley will hold out for £5M or £6M for the center-back – and if San Lorenzo can’t afford that – well that’s hard lines.

And we don’t know where the meeting with Coloccini and Lammens will take place –  in England or in Argentina – but the President will need permission to talk to one of our players still on a contract at Newcastle.

San Lorenzo couldn’t afford Colo in January, and we’re not sure where they will get the money from now – but of course step two is they may seek divine intervention.

Pope Francis is a keen supporter of San Lorenzo, and he’ll be following this situation closely.

We had the Demba Ba saga that lasted all last summer, and now we can look forward to the Fabricio Coloccini saga potentially lasting all this summer.

Oh no! :(

Seriously, hasn’t this just come from a made up twitter link, and now Sky are reporting it? Complete rubbish, besides, he cannot officially speak to Colo until such a point that Newcastle give him permission, otherwise it’s tapping up. He can speak to Colo’s agent freely, but thats it.

  • 2 nufc786 // May 23, 2013 at 4:42 PM

    just peachy…….

  • 3 sparky55 // May 23, 2013 at 4:43 PM

never in doubt…he was never gonna stay…even though pardew is a winner as well!

  • 4 Tommyy // May 23, 2013 at 4:52 PM

I’ll be very sad to see him go, my favourite Newcastle player and I think our only player who could make it in any side in the world.
Yes he’s looked poor at times but we’re Newcastle and him in a top team would be formidable in my opinion.
I fear he’s irreplaceable for us tbh, don’t think we could get anyone who is as influential or as good as him.

  • 5 santonthenewmaldini // May 23, 2013 at 4:55 PM

Imagine we sell Colo , Cabaye, Shola, Arfa , Marveux and Anita and not get any replacements?!?!?

And still have Pardew as manager as well…….

Na just trying to freak the blog out haha

  • 6 kevymartins // May 23, 2013 at 4:57 PM

@Santon why not just sell the whole team and promote the reserves?

  • 7 NUFCarter // May 23, 2013 at 4:57 PM

Christain benteke has indicated he won’t be staying at villa. I know it doesn’t concern NUFC because there’s no chance of him coming here with borrusia Dortmund and spurs interested, but it’s interesting news.
Richard dunne has also been released. Rumours will be linking him to NUFC just to piss us off on top of Carlton cole but tbf I ain’t heard nothing yet. Shay Given looks look he’s going to be released as well as the selling of n’zogbia.

  • 8 croftus5678 // May 23, 2013 at 4:59 PM

hmm what gives them the right to try poach our players let alone for free ?????
there just out to cause trouble as far as im concerned and i would take them to court for unsettling a player.

  • 9 kevymartins // May 23, 2013 at 5:01 PM

@Croftus how would that look? Taking them to court for unsettling a player then colo walks in and say its personal Pardew was with my wife.

  • 10 NUFCarter // May 23, 2013 at 5:01 PM

San Lorenzo were always gonna come back for him especially if they think they can get him on the cheap and if he wants to go. He’s a class act and would be a fantastic signing for them.

  • 11 Griff-toon // May 23, 2013 at 5:08 PM

Do you guys think this is all because of the Coloccini song?

    Did he take it litteraly?

  • 12 wolfshead@toon // May 23, 2013 at 5:10 PM

never mind we still got santon who WILL be the new maldini – one day :-)

  • 13 kevymartins // May 23, 2013 at 5:10 PM

    @Grifftoon It’s a theory.
It’s strange how he was loving life in the toon loved the club that much he had his kids in the academy them boom something happens with his wife and he wants to leave. And of course pardrew has been known for it so put 2 and 2 together.

  • 14 santonthenewmaldini // May 23, 2013 at 5:12 PM

    @Wolfshead !

He will be great just not in a Toon shirt he will most likely go to Milan get put on the right wing and become one of the best attackers around

  • 15 wolfshead@toon // May 23, 2013 at 5:14 PM

  • 16 Tommyy // May 23, 2013 at 5:17 PM

Santon does need to improve this season, he’s a good player but gets caught out of position constantly. It’s just so obvious he’s not a Left Back, he really should be employed as a winger from now on and work on his delivery and passing. He’d be excellent.

  • 17 DokToon // May 23, 2013 at 5:23 PM

forgive me, ive a michael jackson song in my head now…

    “do you remember the time,
    we didnt hoofball,
    do you remember the time”

    sorry about that… lol

  • 18 Jackel001 // May 23, 2013 at 5:26 PM

NUFC have released a statement. Basically pardew is here to stay.

Now I believe we are going to lose are top players, get relegated and fat mike will try to sell us to dave the rave.

  • 19 Charlie in the Gallowgate // May 23, 2013 at 5:28 PM

I’ve got a feeling Santon will be gone this summer – at the end of the Arsenal game when the players were standing for their ovation he came over to the Gallowgate End to clap us in appreciation for the support we have given him.
I wonder if he was telling us something?

  • 20 bzak12 // May 23, 2013 at 5:28 PM

Just read Lambarse’s statement that,s totally given me confidence for next season. TOSS>

  • 21 one Tony Green // May 23, 2013 at 5:28 PM

@kevymartins. Your hatred of Pardew does not give you the right to spread something you have absolutely no proof. I would be very careful what you write you could end up in court.

As for Colo he won’t be going anywhere unless San Lorenzo cough up money. He could always buy himself out of his contract if he is so unhappy.

  • 22 kevymartins // May 23, 2013 at 5:30 PM

@Charile I don’t think so .Why would he want to move away? He’s in love with a geordie lass so he would move away just leave his girl behind?

  • 23 nufc786 // May 23, 2013 at 5:31 PM

Best fluid passing move we have ever played under Pardew i think…

  • 24 Cisse's Big Toe // May 23, 2013 at 5:31 PM

    so pardew stays

  • 25 kevymartins // May 23, 2013 at 5:33 PM

@One tony green. Really for expressing my opinion?

Don’t sit there and tell me it hasn’t crossed your mind. But yes nobody has any proof so it is a theory. I’m just saying the way he is upping and going is strange.

  • 26 Markaccus // May 23, 2013 at 5:34 PM

G!!!! I will not tolerate a smear campaign!

As punnishment, the house provided for you by the club will now be a 1 bed flat in Sunderland.

  • 27 toonarmydownsouth // May 23, 2013 at 5:37 PM

If anything that statement says we’re not willing to let colo leave, so save yourself the airfare buddy seeing as your skint!!

  • 28 kevymartins // May 23, 2013 at 5:39 PM

@One tony green also im not spreading anything. As a nufc fan I have the right to question it because if pardrew did do something like this that upset are once well commited captain then im sorry but he would really have to go.

The club tell’s us fans nowt so no wonder some fans are coming up with these accusations.

  • 29 Markaccus // May 23, 2013 at 5:40 PM

Tads. I think he must be coming by pedalo. They cant afford owt else. Like you said…. they’re skint!

  • 30 toonarmydownsouth // May 23, 2013 at 5:42 PM

@CaulkinTheTimes: Derek Llambias on #nufc website. Confirms hierarchy had “constructive” meeting & looking for “long-term stability”.

There ya have it folks, DL wants a top 10 finish…..

  • 31 kevymartins // May 23, 2013 at 5:43 PM

@Tads at least we now have stability pity it’s in the wrong hands.

  • 32 toonarmydownsouth // May 23, 2013 at 5:43 PM

Hope it’s a 2 seater, he’ll never get here, he’ll just keep peddling round in circle’s!

  • 33 southerngeordie // May 23, 2013 at 5:47 PM

Glad the club is sticking to its beliefs of clarity and transparency when it comes to the fans. Absolute piss & wind from Llambias.

Llambias needs to get moving or we will be left
behind. West Ham and Manure have started
already. Next thing will be news of DL being
    on his hols.

  • 37 toonarmydownsouth // May 23, 2013 at 5:51 PM

Reading through the interview it basically sounded like, they had a meeting, all blamed each other, pardew has kept his job because dekka/ash ballsed up in the summer, dekka kept his job because parts ballsed up the season and Ashley can’t figure out which one to blame!
FFS ash man sack the pair of them!

Having said that we’ll see how much they have really “learnt” this summer because we’re still 5-6 players away from having a top team imo

  • 38 Bearsize // May 23, 2013 at 5:55 PM

I dont care if colo goes, as long as shola does, hes poo!!

  • 39 toonarmydownsouth // May 23, 2013 at 5:56 PM

@GFN_France: BREAKING: RMC are claiming that Joao #Moutinho and James #Rodriquez are currently undergoing medicals at #Monaco as we speak. Unconfirmed.

  • 40 Mister Tuff // May 23, 2013 at 6:04 PM

Well there we are Dastardly has confirmed Percy as manager for next season.
I am truly disappointed, whilst I hope for good things next season, as do all Toon supporters I feel this may be a retrograde step. It will be interesting to see who we go after in the summer break or more pertinent -who is willing to come here and who may be “shoehorned” out to provide the funds. Will the transfer policy change to get older PL experienced players -(euphemism for players out of contract -ie hired for nowt).
Can we attract a budding star like Aubameyang. All will be revealed in the coming weeks, I suppose when we see who is hired.
Something clearly I am not looking forward to is the pro Percy brigade (aka the Blind Faith Brigade) who have been in hiding recently, suddenly re-appearing in great numbers back onto the blog, crowing like cockerels who have been denied access to the hen cree for six months. They’ll be strutting about and preening themselves just like Foghorn Leghorn. The cloud of doom looms.

  • 41 beefman13 // May 23, 2013 at 6:05 PM

To me it looks like the gang of Three being MA DL AND AP are in a pact, its a closed shop, my feeling is the five year plan wont be seen out and MA will sell up within 18 months, and DL AND AP WILL GO AS WELL, that’s the conclusion I have came to, I do see us bringing in some decent players in the summer and letting some go also, but I cant see us being consistant from game to game with Alan Pardew in charge, we all know that the toon did not put in one whole consistant 90 mins in the whole of last season, which is quite staggering, maybe that is the only thing that was consistan wast the consistency!!!!

I just wonder how AP is going to handle any bad runs we go on next season, well I do know the politicians hat will be back on to blame one thing or another, I suppose AP has been the most consistent thing this season with his wineing on about the same old same old, oh how im looking forward to that?!?!

  • 43 TorqToon // May 23, 2013 at 6:08 PM

Given as spurs are looking to offload Parker, Huddlestone and gallas, would anybody take Parker back? The bloke oozes passion which is something we have lacked.

I’d take Huddlestone at the right price.

  • 44 Black and White with an army lol // May 23, 2013 at 6:10 PM

Huddlestone was rumored to be going at 5 million value but he won’t come here there’s nothing to play for.

  • 45 Ketsbaia9 // May 23, 2013 at 6:10 PM

  • 46 Ketsbaia9 // May 23, 2013 at 6:11 PM

The only player i’d take would be Gallas, but he’s 35 now.

Well now Pardew’s confirmed as staying good luck and I really hope he and the board prove every one wrong, I’m more than happy if we achieve success even with some one I don’t like.

Must say I’m a bit disappointed that their meeting was all about discussing what had gone wrong last season, I had hoped they discuss how they would put it right this season because there’s no way Pardew has the ability to figure it out himself!

    @Black and White
I suppose but i question the motive. People claim it’s because Pardew is a Yes man but he really hasn’t been, he’s given Ashley his fair share of credit for our failure.

Most other rumors seem to be speculation. Maybe MA and DL aren’t improving in the footy knowledge department, and buy-in to the stability argument.

  • 100 Black and White with an army lol // May 23, 2013 at 6:58 PM

mate don’t forget Williamson as a holding midfielder or Playmaker lol

  • 101 89Norcal // May 23, 2013 at 7:01 PM

bzak12, I love those fantastical tactical predictions lol.

Personally I would prefer Gosling to be our engine, he’s the future I’m tellin ya.

“Our discussions on Wednesday were very constructive’

sounds like they were figuring out if the square block fits into the triangle block

  • 103 bzak12 // May 23, 2013 at 7:03 PM

89Nocal How about a swap Vermalen for Cabaye Arsenal have always wanted him.

  • 104 Rotonda heights // May 23, 2013 at 7:03 PM

    Norcal @74

We’ve played more long balls than any other team, even worse than Stoke. Go figure !!!

I can’t see Anita, Cabaye, Marveaux, Benny and Colo hanging around for Pardew’s c..p any more.

As for stability how is almost fatally flirting with relegation and totally p….ing off the players and the fans achieving that?

  • 105 Rotonda heights // May 23, 2013 at 7:05 PM

So basically pardew’s contract has no clauses after all.
10M to get rid !!!!!! Sickening

  • 106 Black and White with an army lol // May 23, 2013 at 7:05 PM

    is that including 15 million?

  • 107 Roppa // May 23, 2013 at 7:06 PM

Mike Ashley & Derek Lambias consistently express their desire for stability – rarely do you hear them seeking success. A top 10 position next year – how underwhelming! West Ham were 10th this year, and we were only 2 wins away from from being 8th – pathetic!! Their ambition is hardly likely to inspire our best players to stay, nor is it likely to inspire any great players to come!

Whether we like it or not (I personally despise it) as long as Mike Ashley owns the club, Pardew & Lambias will remain.

I agree with the bloggers who say that the team deserve their support next year, but Pardew does not, he only deserves our contempt – unless of course he demonstrates that he is worthy of the managers job. I suggest that if we get more of the same next season, we should do a ‘Stevie Harper one minute applause’ and change it to an ‘Alan Pardew 1 minute demonstration’ at a fixed point in each game, and then return to supporting the team.
As ‘paying customers’, we must be vociferous in expressing our opinion that we are totally dissatisfied with the lack of ambition in appointing a manager worthy of our great club.

  • 108 Black and White with an army lol // May 23, 2013 at 7:06 PM

    Rotonda heights

i don’t think there is a clause, its probably just a cover up

  • 109 bzak12 // May 23, 2013 at 7:07 PM

Black and White I think percy has Wilko earmaked for left wing to cover Jonas at left back. Also he can add much needed height for the Hoof ball.

  • 110 Black and White with an army lol // May 23, 2013 at 7:07 PM

    well said mate

  • 111 89Norcal // May 23, 2013 at 7:08 PM

    @Black and White
I think he means they made some art of themselves with glue and construction paper.

they would have to give us cash as well, Cabs is worth way more than 5m.

I would bet most of those long balls were from Fall to mid Jan when we were fielding the likes of Gabby, Bigi, Gosling, Willo, etc at the same time. We had no midfield but I do dock Pardew for not schooling the youngsters on how to actually play the game.

  • 112 Rotonda heights // May 23, 2013 at 7:08 PM

I wonder if any potential incoming players are up to speed with pardew’s 4 days out of 5 a week defense training which leaked 68 goals!!

  • 114 Ian Toon // May 23, 2013 at 7:11 PM

Too many believe that if the facts dont fit the theory change the facts. Pardew is not Mourinho, Benitez or Wenger but he’s not Souness, Allardyce or JFK either. Dean Ashton and Adam Lallana both signed by Pardewas youngsters at WHU and Southampton respectively and developed into England players. Ashton ‘s highly promosing career was ended by injury whilst with England.. At the Southampton away game their fans were full of praise for the players Pardew had bought to the club. Where is the compelling evidence that next season will be like this rather than last season? The slate is clean for me and maybe, just maybe , lessons will be learnt by Ashley, Llambias and Pardew.
    Time will tell as always.

As far as a press release is concerned -it’s a press release – and about damage limitation not communication. At least tenth place hints at ambition but doesn’t invite scepticism. So no big probs with that as a PR after near relegation season.
But here’s what they didn’t day:
    1. NUFC should be aiming for football in Europe as part of our plan
    2. The quality of football is important to NUFC fans. We understand that and that will be part of our objectives for next season.
    3. We expect to continue our policy of considered but significant investment in the team.

None of the above would make anyone’s life in mgt more difficult.
All of them would stir some positive comment amongst the debating masses.

Either they’re not smart enough to pitch it. Or they don’t believe thoughtful communications are part of their job.

Both of which are pretty disappointing.

Now we know Pardew’s staying (b..gger), what signs are we hoping for to indicate the changes in approach pretty much everyone here demands?
(By the way my ambition for the team would be top 4 and I would write that into contract bonuses next year)

torq can u imagine both scott parker and tiote doing 360 degree turns to get out of trouble in the middle of the park…. be like the whirling dervish.

  • 120 89Norcal // May 23, 2013 at 7:17 PM

    @Black and White

Yes what they basically did was paste a smaller sheet of paper onto a bigger sheet and draw a smiley face. Took them several hours to craft that masterpiece.

  • 121 Ian Toon // May 23, 2013 at 7:23 PM

89Norcal- yes please. Vermalen would be a terrific signing. He’s 27 fits the experience bill and left sided CB. He was first choice for most of the season and was outstanding against Liverpool away ?hen Arsenal defended really well. He would be a snip I assume he’s fit and only out of side because Arsenal have been on a run of good form.

  • 122 ochytoon // May 23, 2013 at 7:27 PM

Pardew didn’t bring Lallana through at Southampton at all. He was already well established as a first team player (and the future of the club) before Pardew’s appointment.

not to mention he’s a leader. Seems a no-brainer if Colo leaves. Let Fab go and let’s sign another top EPL defender.

  • 124 Ian Toon // May 23, 2013 at 7:31 PM

Lallana made a point of thanking Pardew for developing his career.
    It’s on the record, mate.

  • 125 Ian Toon // May 23, 2013 at 7:33 PM

Vermaelen will be in demand. Not one to miss out on a Belgian International and as you say a leader on the field. Something we’ve missed all season.

  • 126 ochytoon // May 23, 2013 at 7:35 PM

    Ian Toon
He had already played a full season in the Championship with Southampton before Pardew’s reign with them in League One. I’ve been going to Southampton matches consistently for the past 12/13 years, I know a couple of things.

  • 127 LeedsMag // May 23, 2013 at 7:45 PM

Lambsarse remains committed to providing continuity and affordable football – didnt say it would be football worth watching,It will be affordable because there will be little investment and some sales
Sad to see Colo go but inevitable – we have Taylor, Willo and Streete – no need to panic

  • 128 Ian Toon // May 23, 2013 at 7:46 PM

Ochytoon- I am not disputing what your saying. But Lallana made a point of thanking Pardew for working on developing his career. I was at the Southamton game and it was in the local paper and mentioned by Saints fans. It was one of those mutual admiration pieces. There had been some talk a while ago ( before playing in PL) that Lallana was linked with us and Pardew sang his praises. Lambert is another who has said positive things of Pardew the manager. I have yet to note criticism from players of his man management skills despite this constantly being mentioned.

  • 129 Ian Toon // May 23, 2013 at 7:47 PM

Ochytoon- I recall even mentioning it on here!

  • 130 ochytoon // May 23, 2013 at 8:01 PM

    Ian Toon
Fair enough but the fact remains that he was a first team regular before Pardew. He might praise Pardew for helping him develop but to be quite honest, the records really don’t show that such praise is deserved. If anything, Nigel Adkins should receive equal if not greater praise as Lallana developed into a much finer footballer under him.
With regards to his poor man management skills, it is widely believed around Southampton that the real reason Pardew was sacked was because he slept with the captains wife. Hows that for keeping up morale.

  • 131 Ketsbaia9 // May 23, 2013 at 8:04 PM

Cole’s free bloke. We can get much better though. Moussa Sow, Benteke, Zarate and Remy are on my wishlist. We might even coup Bafetimbi Gomis.

  • 132 lualua17 // May 24, 2013 at 12:14 AM

Why not just sue them for tapping up. Surely he has just made the statement to confirm that is his intent and I am sure they have already had conversations previously!
