Marseilles Interested – But This Newcastle Defender Going Nowhere

Watch out when you switch agents in football, as Steven Taylor has just switched to have the same as Joey Barton – and guess what – Steven is now supposedly wanted by Marseilles.

Steven Taylor – going nowhere this summer

The news is in today’s Journal, and the Scot Willie McKay is Steven’s new agent, and he has high-level contacts in France – so is he trying to get Steven to move to France so he can get paid? Is that the job of a football agent these days?

It seems that Marseilles have been looking at the England U21 defender, and we wouldn’t be surprised if Joey Barton is the one who has been talking up how good Steven is at Marseilles.

But it seems that Marseilles’ interest in Steven is real, but we’d be very surprised if Steven wants to move to the south of France from his home town, even though the weather there is just a little bit better than in Newcastle.

Steven has three years to run on his current contract, and we think there’s just no way Steven is going anywhere this summer.

As far as Joey Barton is concerned, Harry Redknapp may want him back at QPR, and he may end up playing a second season in the Championship in four years, although he probably wants to make his move to the south of France club permanent.

One of the worst agents he’s a sneaky little rat. Thought he’d have more sense.

Can’t see Saylor leaving but take away the Geodie connection and we are left with a liability of a defender as was proven when Colo was out injured

saylor would do great in the french league.
bit hit and miss in the prem though as 4 out of 6 games he’s a great player and if played like that consistantly he would have been england player by now but unfortunatly the other 2/6 games he shows how poor he can really be.

collo is over twice the defender even though he’s not that mobile due to age and my main hopes are on mbiwa who i think will be a gem for the toon in time.

keep an eye on remy streete in our youth also as he seems to be heading on the track in front of most cb’s that have made it.

Injury prone, goes to ground a lot, does weird headers, unsporting at free-kicks?
If he wasn’t a Geordie and he always tries 100% I’d be happy to upgrade.

think you ‘ve got this wrong. Colo and Taylor together are our best combination at CB. Mapou is a liability in the middle IMO and that of all the people around me on match days.

for me taylor can go, he makes to many stupid mistakes for me, he did cost us the game agaisnt benfica with that hand ball fair enough he does play well but thats sometimes when he feels like it, if we can do a player exchange am all for it

amido balde is well within our reach and even though not prolific could be a great signing for us.

other lad i would personally go for seeing as we will never get pea is wilfred bony and i understand the negatives of him but we need strength up top with someone who can score to stop other teams back lines attacking us.

winger wise i have no idea but if things stay the way they are i would prefere fergusson given some games (even though i dont think he’s got the pace to be a winger anymore with him bulking up)

Mapou is still new to the league, give him a good pre-season and Saylor won’t get a look in unless Colo does leave us.

Saylor’s way too erratic and inconsistent and is only held in check when he plays with Colo and so when you put Saylor next a player who is still bedding in thing’s are gonna look shakey

Don’t worry mate, we’ll make up for it by signing Cameron Jerome or Carlton Cole……………………..or if we’re really luck we’ll get both 😀

yes I would, if hes the best we have then we have problems because hes useless without colo at the back showing him how to defend, when colo isnt there he makes terrible mistakes, I dont even see school kids make them mistakes he does plus Ive never rated him in the first place so aye id sell him alright

@9 agree with you and york

mbiwa has looked bad so far but as you said not long at our club/doesnt speak english/learning the prem ect ect .
got really high hopes for him though and as you said i expect him to be our best most consistant defender for many years to come and prove to be a great leader at the back for us also.

not much between saylor and williamson imo apart from the geordie mark ofc as they both play great half the time but both play really poor the other half.

Love tayls – but a straight swap with Nicholas Nkoulou and I would bite there hand off.

Cameroonian right sided centre half and a neck of a talent. Destined for big big things!

So u want no Englishman in our squad? No Geordies in a Newcastle team? He’s not the best but he’s far from the worst, if it wasn’t for injuries he’d be around the England squad

Repost before the ‘bashers’ get on line…….nice to find an article that sticks to the point.

I remember when the blog used to be a great place for
conversation and interesting viewpoints. Now it is being squated by those whose sole contribution to any discussion on team affairs is to vent their own feelings on getting rid of Ashley, Pardew or Shola.

I understand and respect other views, but believe me they have been heard over and over and it’s hard to extract worthwhile discussion. It’s hard to get through a post without the same folks jumping in with the same negative comments.

MA, AP at least are here to stay. We all understand that there are a great number of fans who a re not happy – I do not need to read about it on every 2nd comment on every post.

F or the sake of keeping the blog an interesting source for discussion can we please move on?

just looking at us for example would we want williamson and saylor or swap them for a chedou if it came down to losing a squad place ?

long is another avg striker imo and i know we only deserve avg strikers but i personally would take a chance at a cheaper unknown with the hope of him being more prolific.

that amido balde looks good at £3mil we was linked with (again another avg striker but looks like he would do well in the prem)

your right we do need english players and aye the prices are crazy considering we could get cheaper say from france, holland, germany, but arsenal, chelsea, man united, man city and every other team have been buying foreigners from all over the place to save money in the end it will wreck our england chances altogether

I agree but no way would I sell Saylor atm we lack leadership and heart. Others would come in and wear the shirt but people like Saylor understand its about carrying the weight as well I don’t rate him that highly but he does give his all every time he wears the shirt regardless of what’s going on

    geordiemark
He was raised in Newcastle he’s a Geordie imo. He’s more than capable of, when fit and settled, playing for England not much difference between him and others who fail in the shirt for me

    @25 geordie

yep it will and i think it has done over the past 5 or so years 🙁 thats down to the youth and coaching staff i think though as its no good having these world class 1st team players if the younger english generation can not learn from them to be the next world class generation.
imo arsenal have this spot on atm as look at there young english players coming through.

    @26 wwycd

you bring up a good point on english heart there and being a leader on the pitch i personally think kevin nolan has been the missing link even at his age it was our biggest mistake letting him go.
