Newcastle Switch Their Interest To Top Ivorian Striker

It doesn’t look like we have much chance of getting our top striker target Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang of St Etienne, with some big clubs starting to be linked with the 23 year-old Gabon International – but we could be wrong on that.

Wilfried Bony – Newcastle first interested last January

And it looks as if Newcastle aren’t interested in Andy Carroll at £15.5M from Liverpool, although West Ham seem to be willing to pay that amount for the player who was on loan to them in the season just finished.

Newcastle were linked with Wilfried Bony, the Vitesse striker in January, and he’s said to be rated at around £12M – but that seems a little high.

After bringing in the five Frenchmen near the end of January, Newcastle tried to being in a striker to replace Demba Ba, and the three strikers we were linked with were Ricky van Wolfswinkel, Wilfried Bony and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Ricky van Wolfswinkel has already been signed by Norwich, so it seems reasonable that the Sunday Mirror is now saying we could be in for Bony, whether it’s true or not.

The 24-year-old Ivorian stands 6 foot tall and has scored 51 goals in 69 games for Vitesse, since joining them from Sparta Prague in January of 2011 for about £3.5M.

In the  season just passed he has scored a massive 30 goals in 30 appearances for his Dutch club, which is why his price has gone up.

His contract still has two years to run at Vitesse, so he will not come cheap, and he has played 18 times for the Ivory Coast with 6 goals. and will know Cheick Tiote well.

Newcastle may have to recruit more than one striker this summer, and that’s especially if Shola Ameobi decides to request a transfer to get more playing time elsewhere.

Wilfried Bony could be a good option.

High scoring records in the Dutch league can be a little misleading. If we get him I hope he turns out like Suarez (goals wise) and not Afonso Alves.

Forget prices we need a serious investment in players to get back in that top 8. We were lucky with Ba like Swansea were lucky with Michu but bargains like that hardly come along…

… I really hope we aren’t relying on more Haidara/Tiote players who will be cheap and hit the ground running. I would get Townsend, Taarabt/Belhanda and Remy (if he aint a jail bird next season).

This guy is a beast!! Sign him ASAP! Shame we can’t get PEA it seems as he has the pace we need. Bony has the power and technical class up front to finish with ease. He will be some player in our league. His lack of ace is a worry but ANYONE IS BETTER THAN STROLA AMEOBI so it is a massive improvement over his pace already.

Donkey in name, but not in footballing nous – you knows your stuff – I’m a big Bony fan and think he is perfect for the Premier League. He may not get a goal a game against quality opposition, but he will scare the shite out of them and enable others to score. If NUFC get Bony in, it will take the pressure off of ensuring the other striker to come in an established goal scorer – they could opt for a developing ‘project’ type player, who would cost a lot less, making the over all spend more palatable to Ashley.
