Newcastle were linked with Wayne Bridge last summer, and we never thought the stories on him being wanted were true, but we have again been linked today with the former England left-back who turns 33 in August.
Wayne Bridge – played well last season at Brighton
Alan Pardew has said he wants more Premier League experience in the side, and Wayne certainly has that, but he is past his best and probably too old for Mike Ashley to be interested in the player.
That’s especially true when we have just recruited potentially three French full backs in January – Mathieu Debuchy, Massadio Haidara and Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa, with the last two able to play at left back.
Yanga-Mbiwa showed great form at left back in our last few games of the season and we also have Italian International Davide Santon, who improved a lot last season, and was one of the few Newcastle players who did that.
So it’s really hard to believe that we’d be interested in a player who turns 33 in August, and is still at Manchester City on a huge wage over £80K/week (what a waste of money for City) although he played 40 times on loan at Brighton last season with three goals and showed some good form.
In January of 2009 Bridge moved form Chelsea to Manchester City for a fee said to be around £10M, and on a four and a half year deal, but he found it difficult to get his place at City.
Wayne has been out on loan for the last couple of years, and he will be a free agent this summer, but we’d be very surprised if Newcastle are interested in this player.
What do you think?

Yeah I would have Honda. Don’t think we have ever had a Japanese player before ? . May do something for our fanbase in Asia. Could maybe go fir Miaichi as well, very raw but has potential.

Honestly Honda is worth signing just to break the asian market, but he’s an unbelievable player too, free kick expert.

Yeah i was expecting big things from Miachi this season,
but he did very little at Wigan, hardly played.
I wanted Ola John last year when he was at Twente. He moved for £6m… 🙁 Its benfica he’s at as well 😉

David Moyes has been eyeing up Honda for the last two years… I think now he’s at United he has a much better chance of gettin him, if he still wants him. Plus United have 659 million fans worldwide.. 380 million from asia so they need to keep them happy 🙁 Id love him here though.
On Ruiz, I’ve seen a few games where he got the livin sh1t kicked out of him, and stayed on his feet. I think he could do well in england. Sure look at Coutinho, as lightweight as they come, he’s vowed to gym a fair bit though

Comment #65Antoine Griezmann would be nice, but probably too pricey for us. But there must be some bargains in Spain, at least with our current scouting the chances of another luque are slim.

Comment #66NPS I always thought Sinclair with Carroll this summer would give us the diversity in attack we need, a proper winger who could cross to a phyical striker who can properly get his head on it! Completely agree on Mcmanaman also, if he stays he might be half decent against championship defences, but he is just another McLean in the prem if he goes for silly money – just a direct wide player full backs allow to cut past.
I would sort of like to see Dawson from Spurs if Colo goes – committed player who might compliment Taylor well. Having said, I would rather see a player with the vision and skill of Colo replace him, he makes Williamson look good!
Colo leaving could well be the difference that Ba left this season.

I’v heard rumours this fella was at the Toon training ground last week.
The source it came from is 60-40 against and I can’t truly take it for gospil to be honest.
He would bring experience thats for sure.
Really don’t know if he is anygood these days, can he play? Seems to have been off the map.

Comment #69prodigy, the only thing i can hope for is he will be like bellamy, left for the championship on loan, and came back to the prem, with a new club a class player, but who knows, i do not want him

As much as he is 33 and it dosn’t seen realistic.
I really think he could add a bit of experience. Both Haidara and Santon are kids really.
We deffo need some experience into the club, right now all we have is potential and youngsters. The balance needs to be right and I really don’t think it’s here right now.
If Colo leaves we are in a right old funny spot. We deserve to know what is going in here.
This transfer window is the most important yet. We either go forwards or backwards.

Our backups for Debuchy would be Ryan Taylor and Tavernier would they not? Yes we can switch Santon to the right and bring Haidara, but what happens if Santon is out suspended or a slight injury. Raylor will be out for a while though, so possibly a short term loan deal, do we make a cheeky bid for Sam Byram from Leeds Utd?
We seem to have the opinion of wanting wingers, but why not try going up the middle with short quick passing:
Krul
Debuchy Saylor Colo Santon
Sissokho Anita Cabaye
Ben Arfa Belhanda
Cisse
Nearly every team plays with wingers but lets give Santon and Debuchy more licence to bomb forward, both are good crossers of the ball. Then have Anita or Tiote drop back deeper when we attack providing a back three in transition. give Ben Arfa and Belhanda that third of the pitch to roam as they please, this will give Cisse the service as the poacher he is.
I hope we bring in Belhanda and Abel Hernandez. I have seen a lot of Abel and I think he could be on the same level as Chicarito. Another player I like is and may be a good target, reading into what Carr thinks here, could a cheeky loan bid for ross Barkley interest anyone? I would take McCarthy as well, very good on the ball, in the Barton mould without the ego.
