Alan Pardew has mentioned since the season ended, that he would like to sign experienced players for Newcastle in the summer, and players with Premier League experience.
Chris Samba – while at Blackburn
Now this is a Sunday so beware of transfer news, but Newcastle are being linked with 6’4″ QPR center-back Chris Samba, but we’d be very surprised if this news is accurate.
Now bear in mind that Harry Redknapp has said he wants to keep the big man at QPR in the Championship, and that he was signed from Russian side Anzhi in January for £12.5M, and QPR offered him ridiculously high wages to get him to go to the small London club with more money than sense – said to be around £90K/week – and you get some idea why this news is hardly accurate.
The story is in the Daily Star, and there’s not too much out on Newcastle today, so it looks to us like a creative story – let’s put it that way.
Of course if he wasn’t so expensive he could be a good player for Newcastle because he’s great from set plays which is something Newcastle are simply hopeless at these days.
Newcastle would never pay close to £12M for a 29 year old – no way – so unless there’s a release clause in his contract for a lot less than that – then there’s just no way Newcastle could afford him..
Chris was signed by Mark Hughes at Blackburn in 2007 and he was there for five years, and played 185 times for Rovers with 18 goals, and he was a very good player for them.
We’d be shocked if Samba ends up at Newcastle this summer.
