There was news yesterday that Liverpool’s 6’3″ center-back would be willing to consider a move away from Liverpool this summer.
Martin Skrtel – would consider leaving Liverpool
The 28 year old Joined Liverpool as a 23 year old from Zenit St. Petersburg in January of 2008, and he has since played 206 times for Liverpool with 9 goals, but this year he lost his place to veteran Jamie Carragher, who retired form Liverpool at the end of the season, after playing a massive 737 times for the Reds – his only club.
Martin has played 208 times for Liverpool with 9 goals and 61 times for Slovakia.
If you lose favor with Brendan Rodgers, that may be your Liverpool career right there – as Andy Carroll quickly found out, which is why Martin is probably considering a move.
And since Alan Pardew has said he wants to recruit players with Premier League experience, maybe Skrtel would be a candidate for Newcastle, although he may be a bit old at 28.
This is what the Liverpool player told Slovakian newspaper Dennik Sport:
“I have not had any specific offers. But if some should come and they interest me, I would probably ponder it seriously,”
“The club has the biggest say in this in any case, because they have the right for it with me being contracted.” “I do not want to be that specific, I am not saying that I want to leave at any cost,” he continued.
“I feel sorry for what happened in this season. But I have been here for five-and-a-half years and I have built a position here.”
Martin is prone to make mistakes at the back, and he may be no better than the four center-backs we already have at Newcastle – Fab Coloccini, Steven Taylor, Mike Williamson and Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa.

Comment #46@GFN_France: Morgan Amalfitano is interesting both Newcastle and Fulham from the PL. Marseille happy to let go for €2m. Latter more serious interest. #OM
@GFN_France: Re: Amalfitano. Would like to point out that he’s not worth the trouble. Newcastle and Fulham should stay away! #OM
@GFN_France: M365: Claiming a load of rubbish that Nicolas N’Koulou is entering into negotiations with Newcastle and Napoli + that #Marseille want €20m.

Comment #47Sakho and Verma would be great but I fear we would easily get priced out like with PEA once money clubs really start showing interest.

I know that but the difference between buying proven premiership players is two fold. They have experience in the league which is different to most others, and presumably if you are buying them they are consistent performers in it. Thus reducing the gamble. With the best will in the world you might take 5 foreign guys from a weaker league but a couple may not be best suited to the league, take time to adapt or fail to adapt completely. They are more of a gamble which is why proven premiership players and particularly british ones carry a premium imo

Comment #58Keep colo for 6 months get in German Pezzella from River plate and have colo take him under his wing. Also look at Remy (if innocent) and Bony. Get rid Shola. Cisse, Remy, Bony, Campbell. striking choices. Have another look at Douglas but we may be a bit late.

Comment #60Howay Ed at least be realistic. He is nowhere near on our on radar nor would he leave Liverpool to play for us.
As the speculation season is upon us lets not talk about players who we can afford.
Interesting that Neymar is costing Barca less than Liverpool paid us for Carroll

Comment #62As much as I would like English or even British players in our team, there is a lack of British talent in our target range worth the asking price… Carroll still costing 15mil is an example and however much Liverpool had to pay for sturridge when he wasn’t even an international due to being back up at Chelsea. I do think the more French players we sign the bigger out problem will get. I think we need to look at other leagues now. I would like a Shane long type of player or even just Shane long if he’d come

I do think saylor is overrated and given a bit more sympathy coz he is a local lad but right not we can’t afford to sell him as he is a starter for us. Although mbiwa may be a better footballer having 2 ball playing defenders ( colo and MYM) cb together is risky unless you’re a top team…. Which we arent(yet)
