News today in the Daily Mail that Newcastle are interested in Auxerre’s attacking midfielder Steeven Langil, who usually plays out on the right wing.
Steeven Langil – free agent is a target of Magpies
The 25 year-old is out of contract this summer and becomes a free agent, and here’s another case of Newcastle picking up a player who essentially costs nothing in transfer fees – not that there’s anything wrong with that.
The right footed midfielder played 36 times last season for French second division club Auxerre and scored three goals, and has been tracked by Chief Scout Graham Carr.
But it’s quite a step up in class for the a player who was born in Fort-de-France in Martinique, but grew up in Morne Rouge.
Steeven joined Auxerre from Nimes in 2007, and was loaned out to Caen (35 appearances 9 goals), Valenciennes (7 appearances – one goal) and Sedan (14 appearances no goals) during his six years at the French club.
He has played about 127 times for Auxerre with 14 goals since he signed on six years ago.
We haven’t seen the lad play so it’s hard to know how good he is, but he would add to the French contingent we already have at the club.
