The potential move of Andy Carroll from Liverpool to West Ham seems to have stalled, after the east London club had a £15M offer for him accepted by Liverpool.
Andy Carroll – resisting West Ham move
There are two reasons why that’s the case, and one is that Andy is injured again, and this time it’s his heel, and he’s supposed to be out for up to four months, and after missing too many games last season at the Hammers through injury, that doesn’t help Andy’s case.
But the other more important reason is that it seems if he moves from Liverpool, he only wants to move to Newcastle United, his home town club, whom he left two years last January for a massive £35M.
Andy is getting a massive wage of close to £90K a week at the Reds, and he has every legal right to stay at Liverpool for the three years remaining on his contract.
But it’s been made clear to him in no uncertain terms by Brendan Rodgers that he would be on the bench – at best – and that doesn’t help his chances of making the England World Cup squad next summer.
Brendan’s way of playing the ball on the ground doesn’t exactly fit Andy strengths, which are his heading ability, although he’s a much better player with the ball at his feet, than he’s given credit for.
Newcastle will not pay £15M for Carroll to bring him back home, so it seems this situation could last through the summer, and then when it gets to the end of August, it will become very interesting.
We suppose one option is for Newcastle to take Andy on loan, but not surprisingly Liverpool want him transferred so they can get those sky-high wages off their books.
The Andy Carroll saga is very likely to continue through August.
In our poll a majority if Newcastle fans want Mike Ashley to sign him for £15M.

It’s silly money!

Comment #44Prodigy…Not so sure they need to be English tbh, but I’m not against the idea.
The team does need balancing though, with the right type of players, but nationality isn’t a huge factor for me.

Comment #45Toon- Prodigy. been saying this since Jan. We can only have so many foreign players doe to PL rules and there is a big gulf n quality between the English/ homegrown players and the rest of the squad. Not saying we should only buy British but we do need to be looking at upgrading the Willos Gosling et al.

Comment #46CBT – good point. I don’t think our reputation in France is the same as last season though. At least this season we could say we were in the Europa league but all we can say now is that we’re a premier league side who didn’t commit to becoming a top team when we had the chance. Although we do have cabaye and ben arfa (if they don’t leave) to persuade some more frenchies to come.

Comment #47Carroll would be a step backwards. Please NO.
The combination of fee, wages, injury record, and goalscoring record make all this AC talk seem just plain daft to me. Just my opinion….

Comment #4815 million is a normal amount for him! We must remember the only reason liverpool is asking 15million is that the amount of money is the premier league is much more this year. Guys we must remember that when the clubs revenue increases so does the prices of assets (simple economics). I think we should go for Carroll as 15 million is equal to around about 10 million last year! Sign him up!

Comment #52Its kind if refreshing to see a player be somewhat loyal. He only has an interest in playing for Liverpool, the club that showed huge faith in him and a club he owes much for this and us, he was adorned at Newscastle, we loved him and he was producing on the field. Mike Ashley cashed in on him but anybody could see after the dust settled and we reinvested in to the team that it was the right decision. 35M it’s a no brainer.
This rubbish that Carroll only fits the long ball game is garbage, he has good ball control, a great first touch and for a larger lad is very agile. He has an eye for the back of the net, bullies defenders with his strength and power and can head the ball between two posts! Something we’ve struggled with a lot.
Bring him back, maximum id pay, 15M and he would have to definitely take a wage cut but this can be covered with bonuses and incentives.

Everybody blaming injuries and lack of players for the let down, and not the squad or the management….luckily!

I agree, I think the important factor im leaning to is if they speak English or not. I don’t want anymore foreigners brought in who don’t speak a word of it. I think with the five players we have brought in is enough for the time being.
I’d like to see experienced premier league players brought in who can speak English and know the fitness and physicality side to the league.
I hope it’s on the agenda to bring some balance into the squad.

Comment #56Torqtoon – what I think is the best team will hardly ever play together because we have such an injury prone team an it’s not always about the starting 11 as we know all too well because you also need a good bench and if we try and buy well known players with good reputations they won’t want to sit on the bench so I say buy people who are young English players who are fresh and will give it their all when they get the chance.

Comment #61Ashley’s successful business empire seems to be based on the “continually invest heavily to get progress” principle. Why can’t he do the same for the Toon?
Why should Ashley (as we are told) keep on receiving annual reimbursements to reduce the cash he put into this club when he bought it? Do all other Premiership club owners do this?
What happens when he apparently some years down the line gets back EVERYTHING he has invested to buy this club. Will he then spend vast amounts of cash to take this club into the top 4? I think we all know the answer there.
And if he continues to take further cash for the club having broken even will the fans then start to give him the same abuse that Hall and Shepherd got?
All these non successful years in his era will then have been a waste of time.
Got no time for Ashley or Lambias. They have no class, no ambition and no idea of how to run a Premiership club. Having a good balance sheet means nowt when you have the kind of season we’ve just endured.

Comment #63Prodigy…It all depends on when they’re brought in. The language barriers proved a bigger issue due to 5 players arriving in January with no time to adapt on any level. It should never be that severe.
No doubt we will need some “homegrown” players this summer. Does anyone have a link to our current homegrown list?

Comment #66Oh, how I wish to be deluded like some of my fellow fans.
Life would be simpler and I could engage with more of the people that support this club.
To think that selling Ben Arfa would be a good idea because we will inherit lots of money is a pure delusion.
We would not then have £20-30 million to spend on player. That money would be used to balance the books and make the paperwork very attractive.
People these days either support the business or refuse to accept the truth that the football club is a business.

Liverpool have significantly more investment and a better manager.
Everton will have a new (and arguably better) manager and investment for the new man so it’s questionable to think we can compete with their team at this moment.
WBA may fall back and a lot depends on their transfer window.
What you seem to forget is the very rich clubs all around us that will be investing. Swansea, Cardiff, Southampton, Sunderland and Fulham. I mean even Norwich have splashed out on a £10 million striker.
Let the battle of the top 10 begin. The quest for mid-table mediocrity starts now.

Comment #73Considering we’re on the umpteenth AC debate and we’ve got a few on here can I point out to those solely blaming Pardew for last seasons folly even blaming him for a lack of signings, here is an interview I specifically remember reading last year :
http://sport.uk.msn.com/football/pardew-eyes-summer-spending-spree
Now unless Pardew is in on the con to sell season tickets then he thought that we were getting a nice new set of reinforcements and his backtrack to ‘ aving enuff in the tank was a well rehearsed plan or the result of a stern dressing down and an eight year contract.

Aye, bringing in five players was very severe. Although i was glad to get them in to add the depth and quality needed to the squad, It was far from ideal having five players who did not speak a word of English.
Apparantly, they all have to report back to pre-season speaking decent English. Obviously not fluent during this time frame but atleast they have been given the instructions to do so.

I wasn’t implying, I was stating it with full conviction.
Delusion is the belief in something without any proof.
Thinking the club will spend the money they make on sales completely on transfers is deluded as the club has not done this.
Therefore my opinion is valid and people who think that are deluded.
Time may prove them to be right but history has shown us nothing to back up those opinions.
Andy Carroll we all agree was a good deal, but how much of that went onto signings and how much was spent internally?
It was only a good deal for the owner and everything about it has been manipulated to make the fans think we got a good deal.

Comment #76“Brendan’s way of playing the ball on the ground doesn’t exactly fit Andy strengths” —
Ed it doesn’t suit our style of play either!!! With the players we have we are best playing on the ground.
I am so sick of this muppet Carroll! He left for the money, it’s gone pear shaped for him and now he’s desperate to come back.
I say F*** YOU CARROLL YOU HAD YOUR CHANCE AND LEFT US!

That last thing we need is this bloody saga to halt our process of buying a ‘fast’ and ‘quality’ signing- something we need and something Carroll will never be.

Comment #77I like Carroll as a player, but I don’t want him anywhere near a Pardew side.
We are already top of the long ball league, so think of all those second half balls up to Shola. With Carroll there you’ll get that all game long. Will Jonas be picking him out with inch perfect crossing from the left? No, he won’t. I personally don’t want to see that, as I go to the local fields to watch it instead.
Ben Arfa is one of my favourite players of all time. At times he is a joy to watch, and has the type of skills you expect to see at the top level of football. In a more attack minded team, he’d be even better.
Do I want to see him sold? No, silly money or not. We should be adding to him with Belhanda and Boudebouz, not selling him.
He’s been injured, but many players get injured throughout their careers. Doesn’t mean they should be sold, unless you’re a Dyer.
