Frenchman Loves It At Newcastle – Vows To Player Better

Newcastle French International right back Mathieu Debuchy was the first of five Frenchmen to arrive on Tyneside in January, and his form was inconsistent for the side in the five months he’s been at the club, although he did have some very good games.

Mathieu Debuchy – determined to improve at Newcastle

Mathieu spent about six seasons with Yohan Cabaye at Lille, and they are the best of friends, as are their wives, and Yohan helped get Mathieu to Tyneside.

That transfer was supposed to happen last summer, but Newcastle at that time could not agree a fee for the Frenchman with Lille.

And it’s not unusual for players to struggle when they first play in the Premier League, and it was even more difficult for the five Frenchmen, with Newcastle surprisingly struggling against relegation, and there was even extra pressure on the new arrivals to perform immediately.

Debuchy has been interviewed in the local press today, and vows to play better next season:

“I feel great here in terms of my life.” “I’ve been made welcome by everyone at the club, particularly the supporters, even if the results have not been as we would have wanted.”

“However, I want to be stronger and play better for Newcastle next season. I will be better equipped to do that when we return.” “I’ll go away this summer, rest up and prepare hard for next season, because on a personal level I want to give more to my team.”

“Hopefully the team as a whole will improve.”

The right back turns 28 in July, and with Danny Simpson leaving the club this summer, it’s expected he will be the first choice right back, although Davide Santon and Yanga-Mbiwa are also very good players in the right back position.

Mathieu has played 14 times for Newcastle and will be looking to add to that total significantly next season, and certainly a full pre-season should help the 13 times capped French International.

Why do some people fully tattoo one arm while putting nothing on the other?

comon i wanted a firm striker link by now 🙁 i can rest easy then when we get one.

by the way pards is saying cambell will get more chances next year its making me think we are after only 1 striker and having cambell as 3rd choice (not too upset about this tbh but would have personally shipped him out on loan this season 1st) imo its 50/50 weather he’s ready for a bit part player in the prem.

Pretty sure that moron Whelan “gave him permission” to speak to Everton”, thus indicating that he is still employed by Wigan

Rainrix…I was about to do a joke there, but I am going to refrain from it knowing what harm that joke could do in here 😉 lol

Of course we’re only after 1 first team striker. People who think we’re after two are completely mad. We already have Cisse, Goofy, Ameobi, Ben Arfa, other Ameobi and Campbell to play in those forward positions. Plus Obertan and Sissoko at a push.

The player that we need will depend on the formation that Pardew wants to play. I don’t see us attracting a top striker to be rotated with Cisse, so either he’s got to get a striker who can play upfront with Cisse, or he’s got to get a more flexible forward player who can play upfront, as a support striker or out wide with Cisse as the focal point.

Rainrix…it is tempting 😉 very tempting lol

…anyway it really is silly season on here these days! Just imagine we won’t be signing any players until July 1st the earliest so this will go on for another month at least 🙂

…God I am looking forward to the non NUFC related banter (will be good for a change 😉 )
