News today that Newcastle central midfielder Cheick Tioté is interesting Russian club Lokomotiv Moscow.
Cheick Tiote – Newcastle may be willing to sell
Tiote has been a target of a number of top clubs in the three years he’s been on Tyneside, since signing on in the summer of 2010 from FC Twente for £3.5M, and Chelsea have twice come after the Ivory Coast international.
Slaven Bilic is the manager at the Russian club, and the news is that they have been watching Tiote since January, so it’s an open question if Newcastle would be willing to let Cheick go this summer.
Bilic, the former Croatia coach, had a disappointing first season at Lokomotiv, and they will be looking to improve their squad this summer, after finishing only 7th in the Russian Premier League.
Tiote had a great first season at Newcastle, but in the last two seasons he’s been mediocre and his disciplinary record is not good, and if a decent enough offer comes in for the Ivorian, Newcastle could possibly sell the 26 year-old to fund their efforts to get two top strikers into the club this summer.
Tiote’s lucrative contract at Newcastle runs through 2017, and if Mike Ashley does the same thing as he did last year, and puts huge fees on our top players, not many of our stars will leave this summer.
But if a decent offer comes in for Tiote, don’t be surprised if Newcastle take it, and use the money to bring in a couple of top strikers this summer, plus a (cheaper) replacement for Cheick.

Comment #1Anything around the 15m mark and I think Cheick is off . Sad considering just over a year a go Chelsea would have paid 25m for him .
Oh well

Comment #3The only problem I have with tiote is rash challenges which end in him being booked or sent off. Something has changed him think he just needs a break see how he starts off in new campaign. But if someone came in with a daft offer would you refuse it?

Comment #4I’d take anything over 10m. We have Sissoko, Perch, Bigi, Jonas. All can play in that position and are better ball players. And there’s the ACON factor as well.

Comment #6Unless we get a really big price for him we might as well keep him. Hopefully he can get back to his form from 2 years ago. Lets be honest if he got that form back he’d be the 1st name on everyones team sheet. Just a shame its tailed off so badly this season.

Comment #9Bigi, Perch better than Tiote?!
Hmm, maybe, then, someone will offer them the ‘silly’ money that’s been talked of regarding Tiote. Or maybe the fools don’t realise Perch/ Bigi are better than Tiote…
Come on man

Comment #11A bid from Chelsea for Tiote was rejected in the January window 2012 . Not saying thats what they bid for him but just what I thought he was worth at the time

Where did I mention that Perch and Bigi are better than Tiote?
I don’t want Tiote to go but if the offer of 10m+ came in then it would be a testing offer.
If he he did go then 1st choice in place of Tiote would be Sissoko with the others as cover.

Comment #13For clarification – “better ball players” meaning better passers / distribution.

Comment #15Solano- you have been known to re-write history. We don’t always, as fans tell it as it was! Ashley’s early tenure was an unmitigated disaster when Fat Sam was the manager. We saw the very worst excesses in terms of last pay day signings and huge wages which we’ve only just got off the books. The Xisco, Smith , Wise and Gonzales era along with the whole sorry saga of hiring and firing of managers. A bitter lesson but he did learn and he became suspicious of the transfer market and the damage it could cause. The appointment of Carr was inspired to manage the purloining of players. The question is does this transparent activity have a shelf life?
Any serious plan takes time to come together. Do you really believe he’s just winging it? For me I see Llambias as being an absolute clown who couldn’t negotiate his way out of a wet paper bag. What a gulf in class, integrity and competence he is from Chris Mort. Just compare him with the chief executives / Managing Directors of the rest of PL clubs. So not everything is as we would like! Clearly success in all aspects would be CL football and were some way from achieving that.
A massive opportunity was spurned last summer towards that goal but
are we really in a worse position given the subsequent signings in January. My experience of players is that they get mindsets
and felt as let down as the toon fan. I know you prefer being miserable but are we really incapable of starting back towards the top of the league. I was getting a stiff neck looking down this past season.

Comment #16To be a player in his mould you need to score goals, drive the team on , keane and viera done it for years and are considered greats but cheick never added that to his game, maybe he was coached wrong and not encouraged to get forward i duno down on top of that he picks up to many yellows wen on form tho he is a super player only shows to get the best price for a player to have to sell wen the iron is hot like we did with AC id say DL is in MA ear saying that now….millions lost.

Comment #17Cabaye and Tiote worked so well togeher 11/12 I’d hate to see Tiote leave. I don’t get why people keep bringing up the card situation. Compare it to the last two seasons and he hasn’t picked up as many. You can’t bring up giving the ball away too much as there’s plenty other culprits in the team. He had a poor season last season but everyone else played well below par. I’d like to see how he plays next season and then decide whether or not we should cash in on him.

Comment #19Surely if your going to give Mr Pardew another season, Toite is worth another season.
He is the only player with any balls in our soft bellied midfield.

Comment #20Sell him & give Anita a run in the side, Anita’s distribution IMO is far better & has the quality to maybe at least grab us a goal. Tiote’s shooting is woefull. We could also play the beast (Sissoko in his proper position!
Why has nobody mentioned Lukaku??? this lad is top drawer for me. Imagine him & Carroll up top WOW! HWTL.

Comment #21Sick of the tiote haters atm and it was only last season he was poor the year before he was outstanding. Our fans can be too quick to criticise, he had a bad year last season like most of our players. All players have a bad season or at least a few months, he will get over it and come back stronger. It would be a mistake to sell him

Comment #22Sure hope so! 10M or above and he should go, he’s a liability and not reliable, plus we have plenty other good players (Anita!) that can play that position.

Comment #23Anything over 10or even 8 and he can go, would rather have sissoko or Anita fill that spot

Comment #24If you add Krul, Hatem, Cabaye and Colo you’ll have the list of players on their way out this summer.
We can’t afford a poor start to the next season or we’ll have another 4 or 5 players wanting away in January.
I hope Carr can identify decent replacements for the above, and we also need a couple of strikers a centre back at least in the summer.

What the fcuk are you on about ?
“the appointment of Carr was inspired, to manage the purloining of players.

Sounds like Carr is doing something considered not entirely above board and has been found out, have I got it right?
