Newcastle striker target Eder tore his cruciate knee ligament during the cup win over Benfica in early March, and it’s likely that injury will keep him out of the action for at least six months, at least.
Eder – recovering from cruciate ligament injury
So the reports linking him with some Premier League clubs this summer, including Newcastle, may be a little premature.
The 5 times capped Portuguese International only moved to Braga from Academica last summer, so this was his first season at Sporting Braga.
He scored 14 goals in 33 appearances last season, but it’s unlikely any club will sign him until he completely recovers from injury, although Newcastle did sign Everton midfielder Dan Gosling, when he had a similar type of injury three years ago.
Gosling has not been a success at Newcastle and could well be sold this summer.
And come to think of it, Newcastle signed Ben Arfa in January of 2011, when he was still recovering from his broken leg.
Newcastle will need to have any strikers they sign this summer available for pre-season, and that’s one big reason why Newcastle will not be signing Eder this summer.
