Agents get paid when their clients move and get new contracts at other clubs, and it seems that Papiss Cisse’s agent is playing up rumors that Russian club Anzhi are about to make a £15M move for the Newcastle striker.
Papiss Cisse – wants to play in Europe
Anzhi Makhachkala are said to be keen on the Senegal international, which we reported late last night, and they have been linked with an imminent big offer for the Newcastle striker.
Not surprisingly Alan Pardew will not want to lose the striker, since we are in short supply of strikers at Newcastle these days – with Shola Ameobi being the only other experienced striker on the books, and Shola has a poor injury record at Newcastle.
Newcastle were forced to sell Demba Ba in January, when Chelsea activated that release clause in his contract – and Ba has yet to be replaced at Newcastle – which is one reason the side found it hard to score goals in the run-in to the season -0 when we just avoided relegation.
Cisse’s agent Nickolay Guido has confirmed other clubs are interested in his client:
“Russian clubs have shown interest in Papiss at the same time, but I don’t want to name the names of the clubs as it wouldn’t be a correct step from me.” “Anzhi have the advantage (hasn’t he just names one of the clubs?) that they could qualify for the Europa League and the Senegalese striker’s dream has been to show his qualities in Europe and it doesn’t seem possible with Newcastle in the near future.”
There’s a safety factor here for Newcastle, because Mike Ashley will demand only silly money from clubs coming in for Newcastle’s top stars this summer, and £15M is hardly silly money for a striker as good as Papiss Cisse.
Maybe twice that much may get Mike Ashley thinking about possibly letting Papiss move on.
Newcastle paid £9M for Cisse 16 months ago when he joined us form German club SC Freiburg, and he hit 13 goals in 14 appearances before last summer rolled around.
It will take a lot more than £15M for Papiss Cisse to leave Newcastle this summer, and he’s served only a year and a half of a five and a half year contract on Tyneside
