Cisse Wants To Play In Europe – Agent Talks Up Summer Move

Agents get paid when their clients move and get new contracts at other clubs, and it seems that Papiss Cisse’s agent is playing up rumors that Russian club Anzhi are about to make a £15M move for the Newcastle striker.

Papiss Cisse – wants to play in Europe

Anzhi Makhachkala are said to be keen on the Senegal international, which we reported late last night, and they have been linked with an imminent big offer for the Newcastle striker.

Not surprisingly Alan Pardew will not want to lose the striker, since we are in short supply of strikers at Newcastle these days – with Shola Ameobi being the only other experienced striker on the books, and Shola has a poor injury record at Newcastle.

Newcastle were forced to sell Demba Ba in January, when Chelsea activated that release clause in his contract – and Ba has yet to be replaced at Newcastle – which is one reason the side found it hard to score goals in the run-in to the season -0 when we just avoided relegation.

Cisse’s agent Nickolay Guido has confirmed other clubs are interested in his client:

“Russian clubs have shown interest in Papiss at the same time, but I don’t want to name the names of the clubs as it wouldn’t be a correct step from me.” “Anzhi have the advantage (hasn’t he just names one of the clubs?) that they could qualify for the Europa League and the Senegalese striker’s dream has been to show his qualities in Europe and it doesn’t seem possible with Newcastle in the near future.”

There’s a safety factor here for Newcastle, because Mike Ashley will demand only silly money from clubs coming in for Newcastle’s top stars this summer, and £15M is hardly silly money for a striker as good as Papiss Cisse.

Maybe twice that much may get Mike Ashley thinking about possibly letting Papiss move on.

Newcastle paid £9M for Cisse 16 months ago when he joined us form German club SC Freiburg, and he hit 13 goals in 14 appearances before last summer rolled around.

It will take a lot more than £15M for Papiss Cisse to leave Newcastle this summer, and he’s served only a year and a half of a five and a half year contract on Tyneside

Guido only said the first sentence and didn’t mention Anzhi. The sentence about Anzhi maybe qualifying for the Europa was made by Omari Tetradze, their former manager, who was asked to comment on the Cisse link.

For silly money we’d sell him but I suspect not until we know we can get key targets into that position. If he goes we’d ideally need three strikers in this window and that’s a lot of money to spend.

Can’t see any mileage in this story. So I put it in the “silly season file 13 bin”.
As for Gervinho – no thanks -had a big reputation before Arsenal signed him -but overall has failed to live up to expectations.
In addition he has the most dodgy haircut I’ve seen for a long time in a PL player.

I envisage many of our players pushing for moves away this summer. Yes we will make money but that leaves a brand new, probably mainly foreign, squad of players for next year – many who will probably be unproven and need time to settle.
That squad will also be under the stewardship of Pardew, who in my opinion doesn’t have the ability to gel these players and get them playing, and by which time he does it’ll probably be too late and another season will be wasted.
This is my worry. We royally fcked up last year an I think the decision not to invest then will see us lose the opportunity to hit the top 6 for the foreseeable future. I see us being very much like West Brom until Ashley and Pardew have left.

15 million mightn’t be silly money but its more than he’s worth. 17- 20 would be unbelievable. Cisse was a one season wonder and we’d be better off buying 2 strikers with his money. One with pace and the other a big presence to score from crosses. Cisse is neither. SELL HIM

How can it be the press if its a statement from his agent???

Kind of ironic that people were saying cisse would be here for life because he loves the toon so much and they were glad to see the back of demba because he was a money grubbing mercenary who let his agents do to much talking……..

    Sell sell sell.

15 million should be enough for a better replacement. Who can hold the ball up and can actually understand the offside rule.

Considering the lads goals kept us in the league last year and secured us millions upon millions I would say £15 million isn’t anywhere near enough for him and I don’t think Mike Ashley is the kind of man that will sell at the first bid he likes to try and screw as much out of the other club as he possibly can!! I agree this is going in the silly season bin!!

Blah. Agent just doing his job, can’t blame him for that. Cisse will leave if we get an offer over £20M for him, and it won’t be his choice. The Russians want a big name that the fans can get excited about so they’ll pay over the odds for him. Show them the goal against Chelsea and they’ll foam at the mouth.

With the money we’d get for him, we could buy 2 of the strikers we’ve been rumoured to be tracking, and we can keep our powder dry to see what happens over the rest of the transfer window.

I also have little faith in our recruitment, we simply never get in the players that we need.
