Our South African readers are not going to be pleased about this news at all – the Newcastle Journal is reporting that for the second year in a row – Newcastle’s plans to play in South Africa have been scrapped.
That isn’t going to happen, and it seems that Newcastle will play some pre-season games close by – probably in Europe = and Everton have already arranged to play in America this summer as an alternative.
Newcastle had considered touring America, the Far East or Brazil as possible tour venues – but now negotiations are ongoing to play clubs probably on the continent, although a pre-season game at Bloomfield Road has been agreed – according to the Blackpool owner Karl Oyston.
“We’ll have a friendly against Newcastle and we are working towards it, there’s no desperate panic as everything is on schedule.”
Newcastle have pulled out of the negotiations early this year, once it was seen that it wasn’t going to be possible in Cape Town, and that gives the club some time to arrange some good pre-season fixtures, and that was hardly the case last summer.
Wonder if Newcastle will try again next summer to get some games played in South Africa – third time lucky?
