Newcastle’s South Africa Tour Plans Collapse – Again

Our South African readers are not going to be pleased about this news at all – the Newcastle Journal is reporting that for the second year in a row – Newcastle’s plans to play in South Africa have been scrapped.

200px-Ajax_Cape_Town.svg

The talks to play in Cape Town this summer have broken down, and we had reported the deal was for Newcastle to play Ajax Cape Town and Everton at the end of July.

That isn’t going to happen, and it seems that Newcastle will play some pre-season games close by – probably in Europe = and Everton have already arranged to play in America this summer as an alternative.

Newcastle had considered touring America, the Far East or Brazil as possible tour venues – but now negotiations are ongoing to play clubs probably on the continent, although a pre-season game at Bloomfield Road has been agreed – according to the Blackpool owner Karl Oyston.

“We’ll have a friendly against Newcastle and we are working towards it, there’s no desperate panic as everything is on schedule.”

Newcastle have pulled out of the negotiations early this year, once it was seen that it wasn’t going to be possible in Cape Town, and that gives the club some time to arrange some good pre-season fixtures, and that was hardly the case last summer.

Wonder if Newcastle will try again next summer to get some games played in South Africa – third time lucky?

Waste of time anyway playing in Africa doesn’t help us in any way get some decent teams at sjp to give fans a look at our new signings ( if any)

I,v said this before and i,ll say it again!

Why the hell don,t they arrange a Pre-season summer tour in Holland / Germany?
Why they have to choose far away continents while Europe is only across the channel i,ll never know?

They could even combine the trip with a scouting tour and scout new talent in the Process?

    Critical Steve,
I will not be setting foot in SJP if I don’t see significant investment this summer, although not a season ticket holder I have been bombared by the club shop with e mails to renew my ticket before deadline day, why don’t they extend the deadline until August 31 then Imight consider getting one.

Strong reports from Indykailanews that we are about to lodge bids for Tom Ince and Will Hughes.
Would be delighted if these boy’s were to join the Toon.

Pre-season is all about growing as a brand and introducing newcastle to a new market, europe should be one of the last places to go if you ask me. The majority of europe have well established leagues with strong fan bases. It should be america or asia every year, thats what the top teams do and thats how they sell so many shirts and get so lucrative sponsorships.

Itunderashell… Indykaila has been proven to know nothing on so many occasions its pretty safe to say he just makes things up. In january he said newcastle had agreed to sign remy about a day before he signed for qpr, hes been saying for along time that falcao would sign for man u. The journalist who wrote the story about will hughes (mark douglas) has said we have interest in him but we havent bid.

    @13 :

    I beg to differ?

Pre-season for me is about getting the team ready and 100% fit for the start of the new season and any Brand recognition should be secondary to experience gained playing those well established teams with their supporters in their well established leagues!

We could go to Asia and America too but you would be playing teams who are nowwhere near to the standard of the teams in countries like Germany;Holland; Italy and the like?
You would also need to look at the facilities before you took the plunge and decided to go somewhere on tour! But i think or i hope that such matters would be looked at before arranging any tours?

The Brand-name of the club for me is secondary?

Hughes and Ince in, Fergie and Gosling in the other direction would be hell of an upgrade. Then Boudebouz in instead of Obertan or Amalfitano. Show Pea some videos of those three and he might be onboard as well.

Sell Tiote if we are short on cash and add Belhanda.

Bit African heavy but man it would be sweet team.

Newexpat… The players do the majority of the fitness work at benton before they go on tour/play games. All the big clubs from european leagues are either out in asia/america selling the club brand and playing other european teams infront of a new fanbase, or they are playing in a lucrative tournament (emirates cup). Sometimes teams even do both, i believe arsenal are touring asia and will also play in the emirates cup. Our preseason the past few years has been a waste of time or badly organised. The time we did go to america it was badly organised, the team had to deal with extreme heat and a number of flights. You would think after two years of cocking it up they would be able to arrange a few games in america with some decent facilities to train on.

With regards to NUFC, delighted at the prospect (although only rumours) of Hughes and Ince, thoroughbred Englishmen, understand the English league and will go well to strengthening the English pedigree of talent ready to step up… Campbell, Streete, Bigi

    TADS,

This is only a rumour but if it happens I would expect Ince to replace Guitierez and Hughes to be loaned out.
l believe both would be excellent additions to our squad.
We would then need one striker and a central defender.
In the January window the club can look again at further additions.
l don’t want to see to many new faces in the summer because the French lads need to bed in properly.

It’s Fun speculating on who the toon bring in – but a waste of time really because they always pull someone (rabbit out of the hat) who no-one has heard of or off everyones radar.

Last thread – depending on transfers I can’t see the toon finishing in the top 8
    My predictions are
    1 Man City
    2 Chelsea
    3 Aresenal
    4 Spuds
5 Man Utd yes Man Utd 5th – fergie got the best out of some average players.
    6 Liverpool
    7 Everton
    8 toon????

Not really what I was getting at tbf, they’d be good additions but no more than £10 mil for the pair
If we spent £19 mil I’d want it to be on players who could stroll into the first team
Ince has also been linked with spurs Liverpool and palace, I think he’ll go to spurs or palace

    Roshan,

Type in ‘ Will Hughes’ on YouTube and see what you think, personally l think they would complement each other and we would have a strong English backbone in our team.
We would also have Ince, Bigirimana, Hughes and soon Cambell as regular under 21 internationals.

It is only speculation but l think we need more English players amongst our ranks.
They are not cheap and you would be getting 20 years of football out of them so really they can be viewed as inexpensive.
I hope we can also sign PEA and Sakho.

Charlie, thats not true about signings. Only a couple of years ago. We had been well linked with Sissoko, Mbiwa and Anita. And as for the right back, thats went on all summer and more. Same with the dutch striker we didnt get ( de jong? ) …..all very well telegraphed.

    prodigy

colo our captain, ba our top scorer and Benny our best player have all complained about Pardews’ tactics and style. I would imagine anita is more than a bit aggrieved too.

    _ _ _ _ _

Yes ash could have splashed the cash and yes some injuries but surely the biggest reason for failure was inexplicably ditching a successful 433.

If ba wasn’t happy to play out left any more pardew should have rotated ba and Cisse centrally wih benny and possibly Marv either side of them.

    @20:

I can understand your thinking but the Club seems to cock this matter up every year?
I,m not saying, go every year to Europe but what i am supporting is only an option for one year!

    @28:

Your suggestion of playing the local teams is also a good one!
Minimum cost, and guaranteed good facilities?

Seriously though, i still think that the whole objective of a Pre-Season should be mainly about making sure the Club is ready for the New Season ! And like i said Brand name should be a secondary priority!

If we can pull of a Nick Powell I’ll be happy to buy English if not then they are usual overpriced for us to buy and most likely overhyped!

…if I remember correctly Man Utd had to pay top dollar for Zaha, Arsenal paid top dollar for Champerlain and Scum paid way too much for Wickham!

They won’t extend the ST renewal date because they would ten be under pressure to buy exciting new players to convince fans to sign up.

Fans don’t realise how much power they have for change by voting with their feet. Ash and Llambias count on that

i dont usually get hyped up over youngsters but ive been doing some dennis wise scouting and this will hughes looks the real deal, desperately looking for a weakness in his game but

    he can dribble
    he can pass
    he can cross
hes surprisingly strong, in a physical league
    hes quite fast (great acceleration)

he could be a top top talent, and hes only 18
