Magpie Midfielder Wants To Stay – But Could Be On His Way

Newcastle midfielder Cheick Tiote signed a new extended contract at Newcastle in February of 2011, just a short seven months after he arrived on Tyneside from FC Twente, and turned down a move to Chelsea in the previous month.

Cheick Tiote – wants to stay at Newcastle

But Cheick has not been in such good form these last two seasons, and it may be that Newcastle sell him this summer, if a club comes in with a big offer for the Ivory Coast International.

The latest club said to be interested in Cheick is Lokomotiv Moscow, who are said to have him on their priority list for this summer.

Cheick wants to stay at Newcastle, but he knows that if a club comes in and bids what Mike Ashley thinks is silly money – then he could be sold.

This is what Cheick said about his future:

“I have a contract with Newcastle. Unless they want to do business with another club, I will be a Newcastle player.” “I do enjoy the Premier League and want to play there for many years, but you never know in football.”

Cheick has played 83 times for Newcastle with one stupendous goal against Arsenal – when Newcastle became the first side to come back from four goals down in the Premier League and draw the game 4-4.

Cheick’s goal came a couple of minutes before full-time in that game, and even after that captain Kevin Nolan narrowly missed with a chance that went only inches wide of the post.

Tiote’s contract has another four years to run on Tyneside, but we wouldn’t be too surprised if he is sold this summer.

Newcastle have 19 year-old Gael Bigirimana coming through fast, and of course Moussa Sissoko can play in defensive midfield too.

tiote has had a horrible season, poor all round(pardew effect?). any decent offer and i would let him go, bigi is similar but younger, better passing ability and not as clumsy in a tackle. plus with suspension and ACN the guy doesnt play enough 10mil+ and i would take your arm off, as good as he is(cult hero) im really not sure he is really good enough if we want to move forward.
    just my opinion

Tiote is the only first tem player that I would not bat an eyelid if he left. The guy can’t even do the simple things anymore like pass the ball 10 feet for gods’ sake.

I’d hate to see him go if MA decides to sell him. His form has suffered under Pardew. I think people look at his reputation from multiple yellow cards (some no fault of his) and physique first before his input in the field. Maybe he will flourish under a new coach and environment. Life of a footballer, never get too attached to a place

IMO Tiote needs a stint on the bench until he can prove himself again in the PL. He seems to have got so caught up in the hype of being a “warrior” that he seems to have forgotten the basics. He still hasn’t worked on his disciplinary record either.

Also please don’t shout for Cheick to shoot anymore at the games 🙂 . He must have the worst shot in the squad FFS

Newcastle Brown Alien to say we lack quality is very harsh, yes there are a few that maybe are not top players but in our first 11 i would say 9 are quality and would push a place in any PL side

supatoonkid, yes i think getting quality is important, but we need more than 2 players that is a fact, the amount of times we have suffered from lack of quantity is unreal, get at least 4 quality players in is what is needed

Just had a look at the free transfers in the prem what do people think of us signing M.Figueroa, E.Frimpong, F.Malouda, Franco Di Santo even W.Gallas for a season for cover good prem players?

Quality is always better than quantity but the 2 players the journal suggests are definitely not enough. Does the club/Pardew not realise we not only lack goals due to alternatives to Cissé but also because we require good crossing wingers? A forward & winger should be prioritised as minimum requirements with a CB upgrade needed for Williamson (if he is sold). A 2nd quality winger however would also prove to be needed but 3-4 + any needed replacements to key personnel should be the bare minimum.

Its not like Cheick was the only Newcastle midfielder to have a duff season is it? And at least, in 2013 he won’t have the ANC to distract him for a month or more in January as he has had for the past 2 years.
If young Wanyama comes in, Cheick has to be the one to make way but I think he has it in him to dominate the opposition for us again this year.

I want the club to improve and not consolidate with close to retirement players seeking a last big pay check (Gallas & Malouda) and championship quality players (Dí Santo & Frimpong). Figueroa would’ve been good when we needed a LB but now he’s too old and we’ve got 2 cracking LBs

SupaToonKid im the same m8 but I dont think there is much point in kidding our selves about top players wanting to join knowing half the team want to leave Ive just got the feeling we will sign free transfers or champioship players I wouldnt mind if it was either Rhodes or Austin.

I can’t see us spending big on Championship players. I think we’ll maintain our policy of cheap but good Dutch & French players. I don’t buy this crap about all the players wanting to leave neither, I think the majority are content & happy to stay but of course if a big side comes in & MA accepts the bid, they won’t turn them down but I don’t see players demanding their agents to move. I believe that will happen after next year if significant changes are not made hence it’s more than likely.

Somebody suggest Marko Marin as a possible target. If Marin doesn’t lie in Mourinho’s plans then we should at least make enquiries into his situation. He would be a perfect candidate on the LW. Price & wages may be out of the question but he’s definitely worth an enquiry with plenty of potential to give at 24 and capped by Germany.

SupaToonKid I dont believe they want to leave but I do think there agents will be looking to get moves to benefit there pockets as for expensive players Austin would cost 4m max Rhodes maybe close to 10m so as much as i like the lad I dont see us going for him Marin is a class act so that is a good shout maybe get Boyata and Josh McEachran good young talents not getting games also Ba id love him back?

If we want to improve how we play football then Tiote has to be sold he was good the 1st season we came up but top level football has moved on from having a destroyer in the middle of the park

The defensive mid should be the one taking the ball from the defense and starting attacks Cabaye actually is perfect in this role but needs the right players beside him to make runs and be as equally comfortable on the ball

If we could get 10 million for Tiote that was guaranteed to go right back into signing a proper winger then go for it!

Will be interesting to see who we will get

Assuming Twente don’t have a sizeable sell-on clause, I think I would let him go at £15million. There are so many similar players are Lund with better discipline who we could get for half that. I’m thinking PSG’s Sissoko or West Brom’s Mulumbu for example. I here West Ham’s Diamé has a £5million buy-out clause. That would be terrific. Any of those would also leave us with a sizeable chunk to contribute towards a new striker of Ba’s calibre. I really like Bony, he seems to tick all the boxes. Having said all of that, I still believe that Tioté will come roaring back next season, particularly if Pardew has the balls to drop him as with Anita, Sissoko and Bigi breathing down his neck, I think it will force the best out of him.

Tiote last season was stuck playing with an out of form cabaye so was forced into doing things that arent his job, he is there to win the ball back, He did that more than any player in the pl (every 18 mins i believe). Its cabayes job to pass the ball and make things happen (he was very poor at this all season and got outperformed by a number of players in assisting even tho he took the majority of freekicks and corners). Cabaye is getting off very lightly for such a poor season. Bigi isnt ready to play dm in the pl, all he does is pass the ball backwards and let opposition players run past him, sissoko is not the kind of player to break up attacks, for someone so big he dosent like going into tackles. Anita is an option but he is still more attack minded and imo is to little to play dm in the pl.
Tiote is the kind of player who fans wont appreciate until he is gone.
