Newcastle Winger’s International Future Is Not Bright

Hatem Ben Arfa is not in the France squad for the two friendlies to be played against Uruguay tomorrow and Brazil on Saturday.

And Newcastle’s mercurial winger may find it difficult to get in the World Cup squad for France for next summer’s World Cup in Brazil.

The main reason for that is nothing to do with his form, but that he fell out with current French coach Didier Deschamps, when both were at Marseilles.

Deschamps was manager at Marseilles from 2009 through 2012, when he was appointed France’s manager, and Ben Arfa was at Marseilles from 2008, and left essentially in August of 2010, when he took that famous trip to Newcastle – since he desperately wanted to play at the Tyneside club.

Ben Arfa signed on full-time at Newcastle in January of 2011, but never saw eye to eye with Deschamps when they were both at the French club.

Ben Arfa was suspended after having an altercation with Laurent Blanc at last summer’s Euro 2012, but that’s now past and gone and not the reason why he has not been included in any of Deschamps squads, including the current one.

Samir Nasri was also suspended, but was selected in the current squad, but pulled out because of an injury he picked up playing for Manchester City against Chelsea in a friendly game over here in the US.

We’d be surprised if Ben Arfa makes any French squad with Didier Deschamps as the manager – but we’ve been wrong before.

If he doesn’t play for France it does mean he will be better prepared to play for Newcastle, so that’s at least one advantage.

What do you think?

we have an absolutely fantastic squad and we had ba for over half a season too.

Only someone like Pardew could lower expectations to such a level with players like Cabaye, Ben Arfa, Colo et al at his disposal. Standby for Jay Spearing , Pearce and other workaday Pardew journeymen.

Geordie – I always stay positive mate! You know me!

Just struck me this morning that I feel sometimes people HOPE we sign these awful players in order to be proven right!

Like last season, some bloggers (same old name’s) were almost gunning for relegation to have their points re pardew and Ashley etc proven correct.

Baffles me…! Yes it’s only natural to get negative on our situation at times….but ALL the time????

I wanted pardew gone so bad.
However he has been confirmed for next season.
So give it a break and change the record.

As with a commodity a players value is determined by what the market will support. Two years ago Dalglish bought Jordan Henderson with Liverpool paying the scum £ 20 million. It’s not a question of what a player is worth but what the market will pay. Nobody other than Liverpool thought that Andy C was worth £ 35 million. Cabaye would cost around £ 25 million because of the number of interested clubs.
As for thinking Hernandez is better than Rooney it just shows what a low ebb this blog is at. At best Hernandez is a poor mans Cisse. Why would we want to duplicate the style of player!

Thing is, disputes aside. HBA has had a series of bad injuries, he was not really meant to have played again this season, but did.

I would say he was not at 100%, but he is a bloody annoying player to have in your team, he can be a genius at times, but other times you think, why the hell did you not pass before now.

To be a great player, this lad needs to learn to be more aware of his team mates and also know when he should pass and when he should use his flair.

Torq…I think it’s a case of people not wanting to set themselves up for a fall.

If they don’t believe and something happens it’s all good. If they don’t expect anything and nothing happens, they can say “see, told you so” and pretend it doesn’t bother them as much.

    Self preservation 🙂

    Completely get you Torq mate.
In Carr we trust. This time last year we finished 5th. There were good noises coming from the club and ppl were praising how we were running the club. Then we have a poor season and it’s doom and gloom. I wonder who the star name is. De Jong ?

this is a good thing for keeping him fit but bad for his valuation as he would surely make an impact on the french team.

I definitely agree that we need new wingers like, lads who can take on the fullback and get a cross in, not always cutting inside.

richyg01 – I see Milner as similar to Jonas – but better. He works hard, covers the full-back well like Jonas, but he can cross the ball better. So IF we’re going to have that sort of player in our team (and please don’t let’s start the Jonas is useless / Pardew’s lover stuff again) and he was cheap – both of which are questionable- then yes. Otherwise it’s a waste of money for me.

richy….With Benny, I don’t think we ever get to see the best of him as he rarely has been around long enough to really get in to the swing of things. Last season he was hitting some super form, but then it was the end of the season.

On Milner, I see him as a Jonas type. Hard working utility player. Milner is more consistent though. Not sure we can accommodate both in the team (not that Pardew wouldn’t want to 🙂 )

I want to be positive and excited about any potential signings, but after seeing game after game, the same errors unchanged, why should I be thinking there will be a miraculous change next season? Just because we have reached the end of the year?

Hope can be good and not-so-good. The facts of Pardew’s “strong philosophy” have been there since he got here.

To think that an addition of a couple of quality players will change it dramatically, is wrong as we had 5 players in January and still only narrowly missed being relegated.

Yes thats the trouble with Pardew, he likes his workhorses!

He thinks hes still at the palace with his all for one, one for all policy, he is not letting the better players express themselves enough, benny is a law unto himself of course, great to watch but not the greatest team player is he.if word gets around how Pardew is stifling players flair then they wont want to come here.

On Ben Arfa, he maybe is to much of an individual to play in the national team, Deschamps wont like that, and wont have it.

However positive I am, it reverts back to what has already been seen.

I’d love to see PEA signed and Sakho and Belhanda and Boudebouz… BUT the system and environment isn’t there for them to flourish. There is no strategic plan of where people run to and most important of all, WHY.

So the likely outcome if we signed them, would be that we would see their individual ability showing in a game, but again, not cohesion of those players to play as a collective group, who are already well drilled with tactics to create chances whilst staying structured.

    my dream signings are :
    amido balde
    wilfred bony
    bellhander
    boudebouz

its not going to happen but our team does sign players above our means so i’m sure they will be good signings.

winger wise did anyone see how sameobi played while on loan ? he looked a great winger (touch wood it gave him the experiance needed.)

we will see cambell this year also so if anything i expect only 1 striker in ! (a mistake in my eyes as i think he needs loan experiance and its too soon to push him in)

Even the talk of an additional coach coming in… Pardew still sets the team up to be unbalanced, he will still shout instructions to sit back if we go a goal up. He essentially overrules a new coach.

His “strong philosophy” won’t be altered by a new coach, because then he’s showing that it’s not so strong.

Will they change from working on defence most days of the week? Probably not.

He’s stalling his job in management with his excuses. The excuses aren’t needed. They are simply deflecting from what is basically public domain knowledge once the team plays. What happens speaks volumes for what he represents.

SAmeobi was OK but not setting the place alight while on loan – but I guess you are only as good as the team you are in, and at the time he was on loan, the smoggies were really struggling with form.

I agree with you, Campbell needs to get sent away for a full season, get some experience and some goals under his belt and get used to playing week in week out.

@27 streete is the best prospect i’ve seen in a hell of a long time but like all youngsters they need to learn the game more !

i personally think he’s more talented than good and if it wasnt for good’s contract he would be ahead of him in the pecking order.

they both still need to go out on loan more though (good in cb position) and hopefully he will have that one game where it all clicks into place.
