We’ve been researching some good young French players who have either interested Newcastle in the past, or could be some new players Newcastle Chief Scout Graham Carr is watching on the continent.
Wissam Ben Yedder – on Newcastle’s radar screen?
Newcastle watched Toulouse a lot last season in scouting 23 year-old powerhouse Moussa Sissoko, and we signed the 8 times capped French International for around £2M in January – a fantastic buy for Newcastle.
But maybe another young player who has caught Graham Carr’s attention is 22 year-old 5’7″ striker Wissam Ben Yedder, who scored 15 goals in 40 appearances for Toulouse last season.
Ben Yedder was born in Sarcelles, France, but is of Tunisian descent and the right footed player has made 3 appearances for the French U21 side.
He started his career in 2009 at UJA Alfortville, a French football club based in Alfortville – a suburb of Paris – and moved to Toulouse the next year.
In total he has played 57 times for Toulouse with 16 goals and 7 assists, but he had an excellent season last season, and is now said to be worth around £3.5M by transfermarket.com – although that may not be too accurate – and seems a bit high.
He’s a young striker who would add some other options for Newcastle up front next season.
Here’s some video of the striker against Lille this year.

I hope Pardew is on holiday now! I don’t want him to be away when players are back for pre-season next month!
Pardew doesn’t get directly involved in the negotiation for new players, that will be Llambias and co.

I’d sign him but I couldn’t see it happening at his age, the price and him being at 5under1and. We need to focus on wingers, a forward and CB before anything else on the transfer front.

without investment i just cant see us improving on last season … yes our new buys will have 6 months gelling time and prem experience but you can bet your bottom dollar the teams around us will invest and improve … you stand still you go backwards in this league hope ash and co have realised this after last summer … the talk of 1 striker and 1 cb …sigh

Comment #16Toondarnsarf, great Boogie post, love it mate. Am getting concerned here. Selling Perch isnt a smart move, and sad to see Abeid didnt make it. Maybe he’s lazy or has a bad attitude but I thought he had real potential and I think he will do well elsewhere. I’m pissed off with all this drive to buy cheaper players, and dressing it up as investing for the future. I was slagged off here for saying Amalfitano wouldnt make it, and Gosling, and bloody Obertan ( will the numpties who defended this guy please stand up? I didnt hear ye supporting the lazt turd after Brighton ) , but we need to find some youth AND buy developed players. Last summer I constantly moaned about Ashleys purchasing policy , and it turned out to be compleyely true.
– Any player purchased should have a discount on him ( hence injured players, or even Cisse who had been discounted from 13 mill to 9 mill )
-Beyond that, dont pay more that 5mill for a player
– In like Flynn for any hot french starts aged 16-18.
We NEED to spend decent money on 3 decent players. Ashley did well in Jan and that must be acknowledged but only if he backs it up this summer. I have some faith in him though, more faith than in Pardew if I’m honest.

Comment #24To use his own words, it would interrest me if Cabaye wnet to manure. He is good, but in no way irreplaceable and he does have a bad streak about him so if we take them to the cleaners and got 25+ mil for him, then great!

Comment #26from what I have read, he seems okay at the toon but seems to want a move.
I just wonder whether anyone would match the toon’s valuation?
Not sure we would take less than 15m and who that represents a bit of a risk for the buying club
Personally, if his heart is not in it then get rid

As I said last week would snap the mackems hands off to get him. Class act one of those players that drifts on a pitch finds space hard to pick up mark as we have found out this season. Best player on the park at St. James’

Glad you liked it! I reckon the whole squad should have got together and recorded it!
I don’t get the Perch sale either, but maybe he’s asked for more first team football and we don’t want to lose him on a free…
We know the club wants value for money when buying players and that makes sense as we still have a lot of debt.
I don’t think we NEED 3 players at all. We should finish 7th/8th and maybe have a go at higher and I think we just need another striker to do that.
Sure, it would be nice to sign a couple more top players, but I think that will only happens if a couple of top players leave.

Comment #36Of course Cabaye would like to join Man Utd! If they are seriously interested then they will bid £20M+ and they will get him. I wouldn’t blame him either.
We can’t keep a player if a CL club wants him and he wants to go.

we dont need 3 but it would definately help massively and improve us which is what we all want.
i dont share your optimism re 6th / 8th place finish as i just didnt see anything last season to suggest it could happen (chelsea home apart) and we all know the teams around us are likely to invest relatively heavily and probanly improve

Comment #38Weimann has had one good season for Villa. I can’t see us paying big money for this prospect, and I can’t see Villa selling otherwise.
I also can’t see him pushing for a move to us. Villa will be fancying top 10 too.

Comment #40this story that he may sign for manure has two things that help it out good
1. Newcastle have a large history for bad windows during the Ashley regime
2. the british media are very easy at manipulating stories
if sky were really so sure he will join manure then why is sky bets odds 4-1
