Luc Castaignos is a former Newcastle target, and the 20 year-old is a Dutch footballer who now plays as a striker for Eredivisie club FC Twente.
Luc Castaignos – 20 year-old FC Twente striker
He’s played for all the Netherland’s youth sides including 3 appearances for the U21 side and Newcastle were linked with this player constantly last summer.
When he played for the Netherlands U17 side he became their top scorer ever, when he notched 13 goals in just 15 appearances and he then scored 8 goals in 17 appearances for the Netherlands U19 side.
Since last summer he has left Inter-Milan and joined FC Twenty, where he made 46 appearances last season and scored 14 goals with 6 assists.
Luc started his career at Feyenoord in 2009 and in his first two seasons he played just 14 times with 4 goals, but then two years ago he scored 19 goals in 46 appearances in season 2010-2011 and then moved to Inter-Milan, but he was rarely used in Italy and moved to FC Twente last summer.
Castaignos stands 6’2″ tall and is of French descent and he was born in Schiedamin, Holland and his style of play has been compared to that of the great Thierry Henry.
He cost Inter-Milan €3M (£2.6M) two years ago, and last year moved to FC Twente for €6M (£5.2M), but it’s a question whether this lad could make it in the Premier League.
But Newcastle are looking at the Dutch league for new recruits this summer, and Chief Scout Graham Carr and his team could have been keeping tabs on the player last season.
He looks a very decent young player to us – what do you think?

Comment #1I think he went to Inter Milan far too young but he could be a great player if we can get him for say about 5 million

Comment #2He’s worth a punt as a replacement for Shola but I think we need someone more prolific up front with Cisse.

Comment #3That’s a lot for FC Twente to pay out for a (then) 19 year-old who was rarely used at Inter, isn’t it? And it begs the question just how much would they expect to receive for the lad. 14 goals and 6 assists in 46 games is not that great in the Eredivisie.

Comment #4We should sign bony before anyone else, we need a striker who has scored many goals in successive seasons. Get te experience through re door, then go for the likes of Will Hughes

Comment #5This lad is just not good enough for the premiership ,if we want too sign a striker from the ererdivsie then Finnbogasson from Heerenveen would be a great signing. He is Young so fits our transfer policy and is stong ,pacey and scores just about every chance he gets .
