Newcastle Transfer Activity Slow – Very Slow

1:05 am, Sunday, June 9th, 2013 by Ed Harrison · 18 Comments

As you may have noticed, the transfer market since the last game of the season has been very slow, and it seems Newcastle have still to put their first bid in for any player – although we expect things to heat up soon.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang 987

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – was Newcastle’s number one transfer target

And it’s very possible that Newcastle have already moved away from some of their top targets with St. Etienne striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as an example, wanted by a number of big clubs other than Newcastle.

And of course we still don’t know where Newcastle will be playing their pre-season games this summer, although Portugal has again been mentioned as a possibility after the club ruled out South Africa, for a second year in a row.

Two years ago at this time we had already signed Yohan Cabaye from Lille, and by June 18th we had also signed Demba Ba and Sylvain Marveaux, both of whom turned out to be good signings for the club.

And last year we had brough in Romain Amalfitano and we were busy trying to get Mathieu Debuchy through the door, but we only signed then 18 year-old Gael Bigirimana, who was an excellent buy from Coventry, and also Vurnon Anita from Ajax last summer, even though we had the Europa League.

And that turned out to be a massive mistake and we paid for it dearly last season when we just avoided relegation and finished 5th bottom of the league, although we did reach the quarter finals of the Europe league before being eliminated by the beaten finalists Benfica.

We assume manager Alan Pardew will return from holiday early next week – so things may start to heat up then – maybe.

No surprises in anything Ed’s said. Derek’s obviously leading on this one!

There is still plenty of time to secure our targets although we are not bargaining from a position of strength like last year.
I really hope that we bring in the required number of players we need and Lambarse doesn’t screw this window up.

Maybe it’s just because they are the big spenders, but I’ve only heard transfer news from the high-profile european clubs or rich clubs like Monaco.

Well the transfer window does not officially open until july 1st i thought so there is time.

With any luck they are doing all their deals in a quiet and confindential manner

leave the muslim bashing on another blog. the minority spoil it for the majority, just like religious fanatics everywhere.

if this issue is true, let’s commend this taking a stand against a quite frankly disgusting industry.

Again I would not get hopes up for us signing a lot of players we actually have a huge squad its just lacking in quality but if everyone is fully fit and we are still intending to play 1 up front then we might not sign that many players

If we got a top drawer striker with pace and a proper left winger with pace and good delivery and a center back upgrade for Williamson/Taylor then I would be happy as long as no one like Cabaye, Cisse or Arfa is sold

Williamson is on 40k a week is he not though? Will be impossible to shift as he will get nowhere near that at any other club

Hey people’s. Long time reader of this blog and eventually decided to join in the discussion/arguments.

Personally I wouldn’t be surprised if we only sign one or two players. Mike will think because we do not have European commitments this season we should have a strong enough squad, especially with the recruitment in January. Personally I think we need to add at least 2 strikers, a left winger (although santon could do a job there) and a CB (two if Colo leaves, although streete could be a good 4th choice).

But I have been massively wrong before.

    40k a week Williamson, get a grip.
No way in the world he’s on 40 grand a week, the top earner is only on 60 odd apparently

I’m hoping the fitness levels are better this coming season as well.

One from this mornings gossip column, it looks like one of the first casualties of the new Mourinho regime could be Demba Ba wonder if we would have him back.& I also believe Cisse is a hypocrite you see a photo of him wearing a Virgin Money shirt I think some at Toon should point out that they also lend money .

if you look at the wingers we have at the club we have several players who can play there:

Fergusson – pin point crosser doesn’t get enough first team play

Marvaux – Totally underused a better all round player than HBA

HBA – Likes to cut in but takes on to many players and is a liability in terms of giving possession away

Santon – Still improving and showing his attacking skills. I would like to see him in central midfield in Cabayes role if Cabaye gets injured.

Obertan – Needs to be more aggressive and get stuck into tackles

Goufran – Still haven’t worked out his best position but h is a good all round player.

We need two forwards, a physical player and a fast creative forward who can cross the ball.

Defence wise we need a big central defender like Samba

Transfer wise I would be tempted to cash in on Tiote and HBA. They won’t get any better, Tiote will continue to get cards and HBA will continue to give away possession which upsets the balance of the team

nufc leazes end. id rather have muslims in my country than a horrible racist scumbag

  • 17 sphinxhunter // Jun 9, 2013 at 10:50 AM

nufc leazes end is the worst kind of support – brings disgrace to the club and offense to everyone. There is no room for racism in a football club. NUFC is the heart and soul of the community. NUFC is all about unity.
$leazes end, I accept you can think what you like, but in going public, you are off-side.
