Mathieu Debuchy – Newcastle Is A Great Club

Mathieu Debuchy had a good game for France against Brazil last night, especially in the first half, but he gave away a silly penalty in added time,  and the score of 3-0 was flattering to Brazil.

Mathieu Debuchy challenging Neymar last night

His best pal Yohan Cabaye gave an interview to Canal+ last week, and some of  Yohan’s comments have upset some Newcastle fans, who demand loyalty and respect from their players.

And there was some good news when Mathieu was interviewed in the French Daily L’Equipe yesterday, and this is some of what he had to say:

“Yes. I wanted to play in England and Newcastle is a great club.”

It was a long running saga to get Debuchy to Newcastle, and last summer Newcastle were trying to sign the French International, who was playing well for France at the Euro 2012 Championships.

But it didn’t happen, but the breakthtough came last October when Newcastle were quietly able to agree a fee with Lille of £5.5M, and Mathieu was was the first of five Frenchmen through the door last January.

Mathieu was linked with Monaco last week, and when asked what he thought about that, he first laughed and then said

“I saw it, but with Monaco, there are new names of players every day. It makes me smile.” “I discovered another championship with things that I like a lot: the atmosphere, the intensity of matches.”

“”Mentally, it takes the same energy, but the game is a little different.” “Last winter, there were many arrivals all of a sudden, it was difficult to work in such a short time.”

“But with the arrival of pre-season, we will be able to prepare well and play at the top of the table next season.” “Mentally, it’s OK.” “But physically, I have had a hard season in the legs.”

“This is not the best time to go to Brazil. But it’s still a good opportunity one year before the World Cup.”

Mathieu seems happy on Tyneside, and we want to see him perform like he did in that first half last night, when he subdued Brazil’s Neymar, and was France’s best player, although things went downhill for France in the second half..

He’s a good lad is Debuchy – especially when he says nice things about Newcastle. 😀

He hasn’t settled yet and hasn’t been able to show what type of player he really is, but hopefully with a good pre-season we’ll see the best of him next season

Debuchy is a quality player. No doubts that with a decent rest, and a good pre season, several of our boys will come out fighting next season. Adding 15 points next season is well within our compass and we can finish top 8. I just hope that we sign a striker to help Papiss, 2 quality and direct wingers who can put a solid amount if balls into the box, and like everyone else, I want us to sign Siem De Jong. £25 million between us being average or rather decent.

Nearly a couple of years back Carr recommended Leroy Fer for 4M and Wanyama for 900K.
20M for the pair now! Nice one Llambias

Really hope Torq is right about the technical advisor role

Not surprising that the likes of HBA has joined Cisse in refusing to wear the shirt as he’s also a Muslim. What is slightly confusing though is they’ve been happy to wear other questionable sponsors over their career. Of course all this could be made-up by the press and Cisse has no worries about wearing the shirt.

Seems strange that they were happy to wear the Virgin Money sponsor on his shirt?

It’s either press BS or they are using it as an excuse to move on!

For me I’d go with the form guide and say that the press and stooping to new low’s

Yep, sounds like the journalists have little or nothing to say / write.

I can see the Editor saying to his hacks:

‘right you lot, we have got the muslims, now the Catholics, which club is sponsored by Durex? ‘

JB, that would be my inclination as well. There are easier ways of angling for a move away from a club that making this sort of stand. Kanoute used to take certain sponsors off his shirt and don’t think he got into trouble for it. It’s one of those things that if all the other players have it on, to not have it on your shirt almost makes it there more so. You draw attention to it.

There were rumours when we changed to Virgin Money that Ba, Tiote and HBA were all going to refuse to wear the shirt with that sponsor on. All press mischief making that time.

Saw an interesting article suggesting that this could all be coming through courtesy of someone within Wonga. No such thing as bad publicity as far as they are concerned. As long as people are aware of their brand it doesn’t really matter to them, and with all this being stirred up then there brand is better known then ever.
