6’3″ PSV Striker Could Be Good Buy For Newcastle

We’ve been looking at a number of players and how they performed last season, in an attempt to maybe pinpoint some of the players Graham Carr and his scouting team may be keeping tabs on,  and could even be a target for Newcastle this summer.

Jürgen Locadia

Jurgen Locadia – 6’3″ 19 year-old PSV striker

One player who had a good season last term was PSV’s 19 year-old striker Jurgen Locadia, who scored 11 goals in 22 appearances for the Dutch side.

Jurgen started his career back in 2001 when he joined VV Bargeres when he was just seven years old, and he played at FC Emmen, RKSV Sarto and Willem II before joining PSV in 2010.

Locadia made his debut in September of 2011 for the top Dutch club, when he came on as a sub in a KNVB Cup match against VVSB, and eight minutes after coming on he scored his first goal for PSV, but in that season he made only two appearances with one goal..

Jurgen was born in Emmen in the Netherlands, and he’s played for all the Dutch Youth sides  from U17 through U21.

He  is still young and doesn’t turn 20 until November, and it could be a decent time for Newcastle to consider this big striker.

Here’s some video of the youngster in action.

Or play 5 at the back and basic using Debuchey and Santon as flankers, with Benny and Marv tucked in either side behind Cisse, with Tiote as holding mid and Sissoko and Cabs ahead of them.

Too attacking and not enough depth in cover to play that formation, we’d get sucker punched repeatedly, anyway. We really don’t seem to be able to settle on an effective formation due to lack of balance in the squad.

we need to hammer our colors to the mast with a couple of solid signings early or really increase the risk of losing one or two top players. then we would be in trouble.

we should go in for Georginio Wijnaldum. Great prospect, just scored a beauty of a goal for the netherlands U21 side.
A dobbelswoop for Mertens and Wijnaldum is just what we need, and sell the non-creative midfielders like obertan, gosling, jonas ect.

With Newcastle for a while now it’s been a case of play your best fit 11 as best you can, but that really is hammering square pegs into round holes and that won’t work in this league with only one position never mind the two or three positions we’ve been resorting to doing it in.

Are Pards and Carr on the same page, looking at the squad and the tactics employed, I’d suggest not.

Do Newcastle focus on strengthening where needed or simply snapping up any player that meets their criteria of buy low, young and with potential.

A little more of the former rather than latter is needed now.

I’ll talk to you Jim. Seems Cisse is now after more money. Looks like he could be agitating for a move. Wouldn’t bother me too much if he left. As long as we got a suitable replacement of course.

Thanks Novo, Manx`s jibe was taken in good humour and well deserved, just messin about.

Yeah, i agree in as much as we need to reshape our squad. Cisse perhaps is part of the problem in that we may not have the right players in the right positions to feed him correctly. The lack of shape and balance in the squad has been plaguing me for about 18 months, to be honest.

Anyway thanks for the willingness to chat but im actually off to work. Cheers.

Sunderland have appointed new Chief of Scout and Managing Director. Both Italians.

What would you prefer, team made up primarily of Italian or french players?

I haven’t seen a quote or anything yet from Cisse that suggests first of all that he doesn’t want to wear the shirt with wonga on and secondly that he wants a pay rise.

I have seen it in awful papers like the daily fail though.

Moral of the story: don’t believe the s**** that papers print. As if you should have to be told that by now.

Its open season, we should be signing players, Locadia should be one of them . We had time between Jan and May to identify targets, dont know whats taking so long.
Players need to be brought in to gel with the team, get familiarised with the grounds, team tactics, weather and overrall environment, buy a house etc otherwise they will remain unsettled if we get them too late and affect their performance throughout the new campaign. Im also expecting Anita to set up this season

Going back a few articles, TorqToon (who probably should have his own blog by now!!) has said that we are after a Technical Advisor on the coaching staff. To me this is Graham Carr’s way of telling Ashley and Llambias that if you are going to stick by Pardew and this scouting network, then an Advisor is required to get the best out of them technically and tactically. It does make sense, Pardew’s strengths are defensive and man management. even Mourinho has an advisor. AVB gave reports to Mourinho on how Chelsea (att he time) could play against other teams. From all accounts, these were very detailed. Appears that this is a good way forward. I have no issue with Pardew now, of course I wanted him out BUT I like this stable environment we have. It will bring success, even Moyes had many hiccups. Plus with possible signings in Siem De Jong and Dries Mertens, we may have solved the 2-3 crisis. Perhaps Pardew was easing Sissokho in by playing him in a more attacking role, give him a strong english pre-season and we may see the best out of him. Cabaye and Sissokho in the Engine Room, De Jong playing an Advanced Playmaker Support role, with Mertens and Ben Arfa playing inside forward roles, this gives plenty of options for Cisse to time his poaching runs. With haidara, Saylor, Raylor, Anita, tiote, Guti, marveaux and possibly another Striker, our bench is looking very strong. Plus with Streete, Good, Campbell, Gosling( I know, I know but we need depth) and Alnwick, we seem to have some good prospects coming through, I can now see the positives coming out.

Not impressed by the video of this kid. He looks sluggish, poor control and slow to get his shot away.
There should be a stewards inquiry into some of that defending.

Looks like his game is based on strength and power shots. Has decent pace. Would be a upgrade from Shola if he doesnt mind sitting on the bench and used sparingly as a late sub and used in cup games as a starting player to develop. Gotta keep in mind his only 19, and how many 19 year olds other are playing first team with 11 goals in 22 games?

Agree with you Sav. These games are clearly NOT the PL. I doubt we would see a lot from him in his first year – would need a lot of settling in and adjusting to the pressure, pace and physicality of the PL. Really tall players tend to lack pace, but they rarely get shorter as the game goes on and everyone tires just that little bit – with some improved positioning, he could get some success playing the last 15 minutes of games.
7 posts out of the first 11, jimmysmith, are you going for some kind of record, its not as if you really have that much to say, you know.

Ahhh, jimmysmith, only joking man. Actually agree with all you wrote, especially post 5 (your third). I think Pards has more in his kit than he was able to show this last season and would love it if he had a fully fit list to select from. NUFC need to solve their perennial injury issue – is it the ground, the climate, the coaches, the physio-treatments, the water they are drinking, what…???

I have seen this kid play on TV, he does look the goods but is very raw in talent. Much like Andy was when he was young, needs work on his touch and hold up play. But give him another season in Holland and he may end up being another Bas Dost. Would be a great prospect but needs the right coaching, better off staying at PSV and we go after him in 2014/15 season.

    Sphinx
From memory, a lot of the injuries are training ground related. SO, there may be something in it in terms of recovery sessions, are they getting the right care after training. Also our recovery times are much longer than others. Perhaps our Physio room needs a revamp with a review done to change our setup, recovery measures, perhaps spending some $$ to get upgraded facilities with appropriate and adequate gear to assist our players. It runs right through with Club doctors to dieticians… I think there is much work in the medical department than footballing IMO.

19, Dutch, Striker, 11 goals in 22 in first impact season sounds like he could improve too! if he is any way decent in the air and has some mobility and doesn’t cost too much then why not, it’s something different. I’m getting fed up with rumours of players for positionswe are well stocked on. If it is only a CB and FWD we are after this summer then the FWD takes priority this time for sure!

Nice! I am actually a FM addict but have learned after reading this blog after 2 years that any kind of reference to FM lessens credibility, so I research players when we are linked to them.

Speaking of scouting, it was mentioned on a football talkshow, Fox Sports FC here is Aus, that Newcastle Utd & Swansea FC had scouts watching a few A-League games, with a few players in mind. Will do some digging and get back to you guys!

Everyone is still on their holidays or national duty, transfers will be more active in July.
I would say sell Cisse for 10-15mil and get 3 or 4 strikers in, 2 as main strikers. We only have Campbell and Gouffran now as Cisse is making fuss about shirt and wage. Hopefully we have no age limit (26) for new strikers, need more experience and cool head in front of goal.
Need player like Huntelaar, his goal scoring record is amazing for 29 yr old, according to some news he is valued around 6mil.

And please nomore French players, we have more French players that PSG soon.

A striker is important, yes, but Gouffran is pretty good too, let’s not forget. In 2011-2012 he scored 22 goals, then came to Newcastle…

He could easily play behind Cisse and help out MF too. If he’s used properly, his stats / application are better than some of players we are hoping to get.

So, what is the main problem and what are we missing? We are slow and predictable (and boring, but that is besides the point!) Our counters are too slow: Solution: Speedy wingers who can go past defenders and create chances and can hold the ball till the rest are in attacking positions. See Bayern /Tottenham for ‘useful’ e.g.’s, AP!

Krul, Debuchy, Colo, Mbiwa, Santon, Tiote, Sissoko, Winger1, Winger2 or HBA, Goofran, Cisse.

    Subs: Jonas, Anita, Marveaux, Cabaye.

The above team would win a game or three. I would bench Cabaye (or sell to fund those two wingers), this year his stats were pretty poor and he never dominated a MF.

Yes, he can’t play lone striker. He played well when we had Ba, defenders not concentrate on Cisse alone and he can’t handle the pressure of #9 shirt and being the main goal scorer. Caught off-side too much, missed too many chances when chances are not that much to begin with and he is starting to ask for more money after last season performance. He doesn’t want to wear the shirt anymore (Wonga is just an excuse) imo.
