Newcastle Midfielder – I Want To Stay For Many Years To Come

10:20 am, Tuesday, June 11th, 2013 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 27 Comments

Whatever you think of the playing ability of Cheick Tiote, the Ivory Coast International seems a terrific person, and he tells the truth – he tells it as it is – and that’s good for him.

Cheick Tiote – in action for Newcastle

Cheick Tiote had a so-so season last term, although he did show some semblance of how well he can play late in the season, and he has been interviewed in the Evening Chronicle today, and admits that things are great at Newcastle when all is going well, but when the tough times come – as they did last season – you get criticized – but that’s football and that’s Newcastle.

This is what Cheick told the Chronicle today:

“I will be a Newcastle player next season. I want to play here for many years to come. I have a contract here and I am looking forward already to next season.”

“When you do well, you are the best manager and the best players.” “When the team struggles, you are criticized. That’s football.” “The manager and the players understand this. We have to believe in him and stay together.”

“I think he is a very good manager, and I think next season will be different.” “I have a good opportunity next season – and I will prepare for that after the two international games.”

“The most important thing is to start next season well. Hopefully, it will be a good season.” “I think we can again challenge for Europe. I think it will be different to this season. It was really difficult for us.”

“We didn’t have a massive squad, and we played in Europe as well as the Premier League.” “I think next season is going to be much better.” “I’m just thinking about being ready for next season.”

Tiote will get an extra week off for playing for the Ivory Coast in World Cup qualifying games, so he will report back on Thursday, July 11th with Newcastle’s other players who have been playing for their country this summer.

Rich Russian club Lokomotiv Moscow have been reported interested in the 37 times capped Ivory Coast International, but it will take a big fee for Newcastle to let Cheick go this summer.

For the record Tiote has played for Newcastle 83 times with one great goal against Arsenal, just over two years ago, and he still has another four years left on his contract.

I know he had a bad year last. I think he will come good this year only problem if he can get it out of his system is diving into tackles in silly places ie out wide in the opponents half.

Having Tiote back to being the player he was two years ago will make a major difference to our performances this season. When he is on top of his game, he is one hell of a player.

He’s a daft lad but I still love him, hopefully he will be better again next season. He’s a top player

Say what you like about his ability last season, to hear a player talking about our club like this fills me with happiness. With any luck, with a good pre-season under his belt, Tiote will regain the form that made him one of the most feared midfielders in the league.

Anyone concerned about transfer activity should realise that several players we had lined up for a July 1st transfer were signed in January instead.

Plus, we could hardly be negotiating with clubs and players when we weren’t even sure if we’d still be in the Premier League next season or not!

The end of the season is crazy for many clubs all over the world, and then many players have gone off to play internationals or gone on holiday. Its not easy to do transfers at this time of year, I suggest that many that are now being made public were pretty much tied up months ago.

Nothing to worry about lads…you can leave all that until August if we haven’t signed a striker at least…

In other words when we do well we are the best players and manager, when we struggle we are the worst players and manager.

Not commenting on here much just now as nothing happening but chuffed to see Tiote’s comments and even more with Torq’s behind the scenes ‘let’s get a modern Belgian coach in’ posts from previous thread.

    Tsunki,
From previous, yeah, I’m sure there are a few down to financial restrictions. However, thelack of entertainment value for money must be a cause for many. I bet we see an uptake in season tickets though if the club bring in a few top players and improve the coaching and staff set up.

Funny they make this plea the day when rumours are flying round we have agreed a deal for a top defender.

Tiote thinks Alan Pardew is a very good manager. Maybe that supports other players views of Pardew to?

Cheicky got more stick than anyone last year, but he is 100% at all times. Trains the hardest, never shirks a tackle and tries his best. If the creative players had done their side of things then perhaps Cheick could have kept things more simple I stead if trying to do more. The contribution of Cabaye, Jonas and HBA last season was absolutely dreadful in an attacking sense. No doubts they can all come good, but the “Tiote is a liability” line is getting tedious. When left to do a job as a CDM (without a partner that he doesn’t need) then he is the best at what he does. If Pardew grew some balls and player 4-1-3-2 or 4-3-3 instead of 4-2-3-1 then we would be more on the front foot and Cheick could be left to clean up. He is a top player, has had 2 great seasons and one not so good. Unfortunately in modern football you are only as good as your last game, but Cheick is a great player, and will prove it thus season I think. Perhaps if all our players were as committed and not viewing us as a stepping stone to bigger and better then we would be ok? But then maybe our owner has allowed us to be looked on this way with his unwillingness to invest! Either way, we deserve better, but committed players is a starter for 10.

    Magpies
Apparently Cardiff are going to put a 2 mil bid in for williamson.
Now they need to spend their cash on shola gosling and obertan. 40 million should see all 4 go! what a team Cardiff would be next season with those assets.

  • 18 NUFCarter // Jun 11, 2013 at 10:39 AM

I’m glad about tiotes commitment though. I’ve never wanted him to leave because we all know what he’s capable of. It’s just the question
of will he regain that form of two seasons ago? To be fair towards the end of the season he did have much better games.

  • 20 croftus5678 // Jun 11, 2013 at 10:40 AM

o.k. great comments from tiote he’s earnt more respect from me now but he still had a horrid season last year and if he can get back to his best i still think a midfielder should be an all round good at everything type i.e. sissoko/anita/cabaye and we can not afford to have 1 person who’s good at only 1 thing.

    just my opinion ofc.

  • 21 NUFCarter // Jun 11, 2013 at 10:43 AM

Perhaps tiotes commitment may pave the way for others to announce their desire to stay on at Nufc. Cabaye Ben arfa who still needs to prove to the fans what theyre worth after last seasons display as well as krul collocini cisse. All of em!!

    Balde ;)

I have heard rumours that Cardiff has made a 2mill offer for Willo, and QPR has made an offer to Danny Simpson.

    Nufc carter

Of course Tiote thinks Pardew is a good manager. he gets ahead of Anita. Jonas, Shola and Perch probably think he’s very good too!!

    nufc

finishing 16th kind of gives the lie to that.

  • 26 Bearsize // Jun 11, 2013 at 11:26 AM

Of coarse tiote rates pardew, he plays him whatever his form! Jonas to come out tomorrow ‘pardew is the best i have played for’ remember tiote was toilet this season. We need the players who clearly did not enjoy last season to comment on pardews poo tactics ect… Just coz he loves playing for the toon and getting 50 grand a week doesnt mean he will come good. Often players who decide to have trouble executing a 10 yard pass often find themselves surplus to requirements quite quickly. Can still do a job but games like against manure will be pipedreams from now on. We need to sell players when stock is high. Evntually we can start to buy more exspensive players, not get to attached to players is key here. Problem is the top teams in prem will not fund us as they know if they give us 30 million we can strengthen ten fold i.e carroll, therefore possibly get in their top 4 which would be a disaster, so selling players abroad is our only option. Open ur minds guys we had a great season finishing fifth and all our players got there heads turned but no offers came in. Sell large to eventually buy large and have better heroes than tiote ect… Just needs patience which no one has got unfortunately lol including myself! Shola is poo!
