There are reports in the Italian press today that long-term target Douglas, whose contract at FC Twente ends on June 30th, may have agreed a deal to join Newcastle United.
Douglas – would he be a good signing for Newcastle?
And certainly the 6’4″ Brazilian would mount a strong challenge to be a starter for Newcastle at center-back should he sign, although the reports in the italian press may be premature.
But if the 6’4″ defender does sign, that would give much-needed competition in the Newcastle defense, and also pose a threat at set plays, which we haven’t done for a long, long time.
And Newcastle conceded an alarming 68 goals lasts season, the most we have ever conceded in the Premier League – so do you think our defense needs to be strengthened this summer?
We want to gauge how Newcastle fans view this potential signing of the big Brazilian – so please let us know by voting below – only one vote per reader.

Comment #5If Douglas does arrive I imagine it will drastically reduce Saylors appearances on the pitch.
Collo and Douglas could make a very good central pairing and it would be down to Saylor and Mbiwa to battle for any injury cover going.

Yeah i was a bit harsh on his short passing game but the lack of movement around him forced him into a long pass to their center half which was frustrating. The underperformance of the team had so many chain reactions to peoples games its so hard to find where to actually point the finger, one week its tiote the next its jonas ect… I do beleive mike will invest some cash come july so i think this season is make or break for a lot of the guys especially pardew

Strikers are the main priority. Would love us to sign Benteke for £18m.

Comment #25Kets> Alderweireld isnt going to come here sorry. Said himself he will stay in Holland unless he can go to a club near the top of the Prem or Germany.
And we’re closer to being German than a team near the top of the league mate.

i believe the thinking behind it is collo will be gone after this season is over (ageing) another solid cb to partner mbiwa when he does so that they are settled into the prem allready.
and lets face it both williamson and saylor (who are good on there day) are really only avg defenders and nothing special.

Comment #32I’m starting to think whether it’s best for us to get rid of Saylor this summer. He’s always injured.
We desperately need at least 2 world class strikers.

Comment #33Afternoon gents, and what a miserable afternoon it is 😀
I see the race card was pulled out of the deck and then promptly put back in.
We all know Indian is only using this blog to either bash Shola, bash Pardew or promote his own blog, and might I add, if his own blog is as badly thought out and written as his Pardew out comments then I am sure it makes for a horrific read, but then again I am never going to find out as I have no interest in his “journalism” but then again he is good enough to play in the PL isn’t that right Indian…or should I say Indian Magpie? Political correctness gone mad I tell you.
Interesting comments from Torq, and while I do have little stock in any ITK (sorry Torq you’re in that bracket now too) I do like the disclaimers that he presents with all his comments, seems like a little bit of 2+2 guesswork with the comments about the technical advisor but I tend to take some interest in his comments about potential signings so we’ll give him a stay of execution for the meantime haha
Anyway, how are we all?

Comment #36Well, if we do sign Douglas, I hope to god we can get him to concentrate for 90 mins + injury time. He’s technically a very fine player, who switches off for 5 or 10 mins every game. Not unlike everybodys favorite fan of ‘Suprise Love’ Titus Bramble.

by no means is cisse world class but he is a very good striker and should have had 20goals last season.
if he was not in the team last season we would have been relegated.
