Newcastle Interested In Inter-Milan Midfielder

Newcastle were linked with Inter-Milan midfielder Joel Obi on June 7th, and now his agent has said that Obi is being tracked by Premier League clubs, and that’s thought to include both Newcastle and Sunderland.

Joel Obi – Newcastle interested in central midfielder

His agent Renzo Contratto had this to say to yesterday:

“All I can say is that Joel is a player that is well liked in the Premier League.” “The player is coming off of a complicated season. He is doing well now and will leave for the pre-season retreat,  and then we will see what Inter wants to do.”

“I would say that Obi is perfect for the new coach of the Nerazzurri – Walter Mazzarri – who really likes players that can show their skills in attack and in defense.”

“I think that from now and until the transfer window closes on September 2nd,  nobody can predict what will happen. Obi is an Inter player and has a contract until 2017.”

The 11 times capped Nigerian International made his debut for Inter-Milan in September of 2010, in a UEFA Champions League group stage game against Werder Bremen, and he has played about 56 times for Inter-Milan since that time with two goals.

The left footed central midfielder was a Sunderland target in January, and reports out of Italy are saying that both Sunderland and Newcastle are now interested in the youngster.

Obi played only twice last season,  after injury and surgery saw him mostly in the injury room at Inter last season.

But Inter-Milan are said to be ready to sell the 5’10” Lagos-born player this summer.

What do you think?

Don’t really know much about this lad but I’ve had a quick scout on youtube and he seems decent enough. Can’t be too good though if the Shadow-Dwellers want him as well though like ;).

Hopefully if we do get him he isn’t too pricey and he isn’t a replacement. And that his injury isn’t the first of many – Last thing we need is another sick-note.

Anyway, I have faith that we’ll invest and bring in the right players this summer for a better season!

Keep The Faith, Ho’way The Lads.

We have sufficient midfielders at present and our focus should be on strengthening our striking options.

while we are linked with shite it looks like the scum have an in with Guttiedi

“Sunderland may finally land a long-term target if reported incoming director of football Roberto Di Fanti can persuade highly rated Manchester City striker John Guidetti, 21, to move to the Stadium of Light reports the Sunderland Echo.

Guidetti is a full Sweden international and has spent productive time away from City on loan at Feyenoord but missed out on much of last season with a virus.

Di Fanti is also Guidetti’s agent alongside working for Sunderland.

    Morning Lads!

Apols to jimmysmith and Norcal89, had to jump off for a conference call. In reply, Norcal I definately have a moonshine location here in Roma QLD, although Im not exactly welcome after supporting NSW during the state of origin match!! Jimmy, yes, I am managing the refurbishment of the emergency services centre here and we may be doing some commercial insurance works as well, but hopefully I can get home for a while before trekking back up. The people here are very supportive and love us boys coming up and helping, the amount of marriage proposals is epic!!

I did some digging, as I mentioned yesterday there were talk of Newcastle and Swansea scouts doing rounds here in Aus. Well, I have information that Newcastle had scouts watching the Asutralia vs Japan match that was in Aus last season, specifically looking at Robbie Kruse, winger/striker, who has now just signed with Leverkusen. Another player of interest in the A-League has been Mark Milligan, who starred last night in our qualifier, very much in the mould of Rhys Williams, who plays for Boro. Finally, Swansea had scouts watching the kid dubbed the New Zealand Messi, Marco Rojas, who I believe has signed for Stuggart.
Finally, a little note on Curtis Good, continually spoken about as a player of the future by very respected people. His season in the A-League raised many eye brows on his technique and ability on the ball. I remember many on here saying how they were impressed with him playing with Bradford. I am telling you, his potential growth is massive. I hope for him to get another loan, possibly to a League 1 Club or a lower championship team where he gets good game time. Already been spoken about as a potential squad player for Rio 2014, IF WE CAN MAKE IT!

Have you seen him play? He is like Santon, winger/wing back, but I don’t know if he will be suited to pardew style or what fans want. I don’t think he could satisfied most fans here since they aren’t satisfied with Santon. What the fans want is Santon to go forward all the time and go back to defensive position in a split second (I don’t think any human can). He is very good player like Santon, very skillful and quick, but he is more suited to Italian style with 3 defenders (with libero) staying back or DM covering, he is also similar like Nagatomo or Abate. Even if we have him and Santon who is capable to do winger’s job, it will be useless because the LW position will always belong to Jonas as long as pardew is in charge.

On Darren Bent – if Cisse goes – and I would sell him for any offer of £15M or over – Bent at £6M would be a similar and decent replacement. Both have little to their game other than scoring goals although Bent is decent in the air. Lambert played Benteke and Agbonlahor up front and that’s why Bent didn’t get a game. He’s a proven Prem goalscorer and there aren’t many of those around at £6M – if that price is true.

If Cisse stays however I can’t see the point in signing Bent – no way could you play them together.

But we are not going to get Bent for £6M! If Cisse was sold I would take Benteke for £6M.

…these if so and what if are just pointless don’t you guys think?

    Oh and morning everyone 😉

Okay might seem a silly question

But do work permit rules apply to managers as well?

    Very true!
If Bent takes a paycut and can be injury free, then he might be one of those Ba situations. I don’t see why we have to sell Cisse to have him, he suits a lone role and can play with Cisse up front. I think Pardew plays the 4231 because he see’s it as the only option. ( He sees it that way, we obviously dont!)
Interesting thought, I get the feeling that they have to apply for a work visa and be sponsered by the club as an employee. I think Southampton’s manager would be on a work visa.
No way will we get Benteke for 6m, more like 16m minimum.

    Morning to you too Torq!
I gotta ask, knowing that NUFC medical department appears to need help, have you tried to put yourself forward? I think you said you consult with sporting clubs and their medical departments.
Have you seen any AFL or NRL games while over here? If not, recommend you do so.

Anybody think we should have a look at Nathan Redmond? Into the last year of his contract, so Birmingham want to cash in. They want 3m but because of his contract 1.5-2m is more likely. He’s quick, plays on left or right wing, has huge potential. Apparently WBA and Norwich are leading the race to get him so we wouldn’t be competing with the big clubs + Lee Clark is their manager, surely he’d do us a favour!

Sydney – I’ve actually worked with the NUFC medical team some time ago and believe it or not, we have one of the best medical facilities and staff in not only the country, but Europe wide!

Our failings are post medical imo. Small squad means we have to bring players back faster than we should, not allowing for sufficient recovery time.

please lets hope its not true that we are scouting the likes of Mike Milligan and Robbie Kruse from OZ – they are cocacola standard at best…yes they had a good game yesterday but that was against Jordan……there are no real talent coming out of OZ at the moment as there were years ago…Rogic may be the one but no other is close _tommy oar im still not confident about……lucas neil, bresciano, swartzer, cahill, kewell are still the best players in oz – says it all really

Jamsha – that’s what i was thinking. It’d probably take Fergie plus a bit of cash 500k-1m but they’ve got a registered interest in Fergie + with Clark as manager … those two things would mean that we’d definitely have an advantage over other teams if we actually went after him.

I wonder what’s going on with Australian sport at the moment? The cricket team is going backwards, they don’t dominate in the pool anymore, no top tennis players and if what Shearermania says is correct, their football is in decline too.
Wasn’t that long ago that everyone was looking to their sporting academies as the way to go. Perhaps they’ve sat back a bit.
Hopefully the Lions will stuff them too.

and to be honest and as much it pains me to say: Shola is actually better than Robbie Kruse….i know its sad
