Newcastle were linked with Inter-Milan midfielder Joel Obi on June 7th, and now his agent has said that Obi is being tracked by Premier League clubs, and that’s thought to include both Newcastle and Sunderland.
Joel Obi – Newcastle interested in central midfielder
His agent Renzo Contratto had this to say to fcinternews.it yesterday:
“All I can say is that Joel is a player that is well liked in the Premier League.” “The player is coming off of a complicated season. He is doing well now and will leave for the pre-season retreat, and then we will see what Inter wants to do.”
“I would say that Obi is perfect for the new coach of the Nerazzurri – Walter Mazzarri – who really likes players that can show their skills in attack and in defense.”
“I think that from now and until the transfer window closes on September 2nd, nobody can predict what will happen. Obi is an Inter player and has a contract until 2017.”
The 11 times capped Nigerian International made his debut for Inter-Milan in September of 2010, in a UEFA Champions League group stage game against Werder Bremen, and he has played about 56 times for Inter-Milan since that time with two goals.
The left footed central midfielder was a Sunderland target in January, and reports out of Italy are saying that both Sunderland and Newcastle are now interested in the youngster.
Obi played only twice last season, after injury and surgery saw him mostly in the injury room at Inter last season.
But Inter-Milan are said to be ready to sell the 5’10” Lagos-born player this summer.

Comment #43Football isnt in decline in Oz, its booming. But it has a National team in transition away from a golden group of players, not unlike the cricket team.
Swings and roundabouts, Australia is a very small country in terms of population, but will always punch above its weight in sport, even in lean times.
Looking forward to the Ashes Rugby League Series as Gt Britain have an excellent pack. Should be full on.

I am a huge follower of the A league and football in Australia.

I’m sorry but we do call it Football in this country. I hate our cricket team, always have and have been a big supporter of the England team for a while now. If you think you know our country and football you will see that it was the number 1 supported and followed sport this calendar year. Plus having greats like Shinji Ono and Del Pierro playing week in week out makes a big difference. We may not be Spain, Germany or Holland but we are the second best team in Asia.
We are in transition and Rogic (Celtic) and Kruse (Leverkusen) are two big hopes. Kruse is better than Shola as he can actually play, pass and oh that’s right… RUN!!
Neil and Cahill are leaders but kewell has been left behind, because of game time. By the way, Newcastle signed one of its brightest prospects in Curtis Good!
A lot of our younger players around 16-20 are being scouted heavily by Dutch, Belgian and German clubs. They appreciate our work ethic. A lot of players are scouted on reputation, all I’m saying is that it was reported as both clubs were scouting games and possibly Kruse and Milligan were in their thoughts.

India were very impressive last night! I think they will win it, Dharwan, Rohit and Kohli, plus Dhoni = very scary! Only Sth Africa and England stand in their way IMO!
Back to football, I like the look of Obi, but there was a good point that another player off to African Nations. If we are going to sign talent from an African country, we need depth to be able to cope.

Comment #55I live in Melb for 9.5 years, they call football(soccer) a girl’s game there, but since they qualified for world cup in Japan I thinkm football has been making big progress there. I remember the only station covering football is SBS.
Most of the players are playing in J-league, Holland, China, and Germany.

Comment #58ST, the Socceroos have a remarkable work ethic don`t
they. To a man they never stopped running from first to last whistle against a tecnically superior Japan side and nearly nicked it as a result. Some of their last ditch defending was genuinely an uplifting spectacle.
If this group of Newcastle players could generate that level of passion and commitment for the jersey we wouldn`t have to wait too much longer for that elusive trophy.

Dark ages talk there, yeah called it the Wog Game. Very sad how some red necks treated them. Now since we qualified for Germany 06, things have changed, and trust me there is some strong talent coming through. Les Murray and Johnny Warren (RIP) advocated the game for so long, now are our pioneers of Football. If you remember ex players like Bosnich and Robbie Slater are now big leaders in the media here and are driving the game to big heights. PLEASE NO COCAINE JOKES ON BOSNICH!! :p

Comment #61Actually, caveat to that last comment, as we didn`t have much choice after cruising in the previous games, ha, anyway, they definitely know how to put in a shift when they have to.
Toon tend to do the very opposite in my experience.

I wish some of these guys saw Milligans efforts in both games, he is a solid DM who can play, just needs that European chance. Is a star here in Oz.
I was so proud of both games, Jordan may not rank high, but they are a very good team, but don’t travel we’ll. Japan are superior technically but are not fighters, and rely way too much on Honda.
Speaking of Honda is he not a Free Agent soon???

Wow! Of course some games are fixed in the IPL. Not controlled by the ICC it was always going to get out of control! The BCCI think they rule the game but truth is they are an arrogant organisation that only cares for themselves and not the people of India THEY serve.
