Newcastle Will Be Priced Out Of Getting Their Top Striker Target

With some big clubs interested in what is said to be Newcastle’s number one striker target this summer – St Etienne striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – we didn’t think there would be much chance that we can get the 24 year-old to Tyneside this summer.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang 89

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – £25M bid coming from Anzhi

And now another club with more sense than money – (yes another one) – this time Russia’s Anzhi, are reported to be readying a £25M bid for the Gabon striker.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who turns 24 next Tuesday seems to be in great demand this summer, and Newcastle will not bid that kind of money for the striker, any striker, if indeed these reports are correct.

And how Anzhi, who have signed Guus Hiddink to a one year contract extension, are going to meet the Financial Fair Play Rules of European clubs – where football clubs are being asked to balance their financial books – we have no idea.

If this news is correct – then it would seem to put Anzhi in the lead for the Gabon striker, and we doubt many other clubs would bid close to that amount, since in January his club St Etienne valued him at (only) around £12M, with Newcastle having a bid of £8.5M turned down late in that transfer window.

Why would a club bid twice the amount this clubs values him at – but we suppose this is not the real world – it’s the silly world of football – well, to be a little bit more accurate – it’s the silly season.

Maybe that’s why Newcastle will be considering strikers like Darren Bent this summer, who could be bought apparently for around £5M, and he has some good Premier League experience too.

What do you think?

Mr Ashley, why don’t you do us all a favour, jump off the Tyne Bridge and when you hit the water start to take deep breathing exercises, I don’t really mean that, its just frustration, or do I mean it, I’m not sure !

Valued at 12 million by his club in January so why the hell would Anzhi be readying a 25 million bid???

Someone like Aubameyang was never gonna come here simply because he’s a top class player who’s in great demand and therefor is gonna cost………whereas we tend to shop in the reduced bin at Pound Stretchers

I just hope that this is not going to be the theme for the summer. We are either outbid,or just can’t get a target over the line.

Our squad is just not good enough at the moment unless the aim is for bottom 6 next season.

Mister Tuff (from the last thread)…What does that quote prove really? We have always debated on here that any manager needs to have some arrogance in their line of work, in fact, any one who is going to instruct or order other people to do something (manage them), they have to have a certain amount of arrogance to succeed. The way it is portrayed on here by some is that he is some sort of ego maniac that can only be right which seems a little far fetched to me. Granted he seems to have issues with accepting responsibility, but if you worked under Ashley and Llambias I’m sure you’d feel a little hard done by and left out to dry and would feel justified in passing on some of the blame.

What he says to the press doesn’t really have any bearing on reality, as we all know, but that is a trait shared by most football managers.

ED – it may be a bit technical to set up, but what about a Transferometer? Everyone gets One vote per day on the most likely transfer going through – either a vote up or down, per player we are supposed to be linked with. It needs work but there’s the idea.

Ugh man I dont think I can remember far back enough when we weren’t threatened with getting Can’t Control. I think NUFC management put him out like chaff or flares to disorientate us, put us off the scent of real targets.. or we’ll be sooooo relieved we aren’t getting him that when we see Heskey booked into the Malmaison…..

Its a shame really, as I rate this lad. I don’t, however rate him in the 25M bracket. For that price you could be looking at a really spectacular flop. I would have went as far as maybe 10M for him if I was pulling the strings, but even that would be a risk, even though he looks exactly the type of player who would be well suited to the Prem.

Andy Carroll isn’t coming back, he has asked West Ham for a pay rise from the £80k per week he gets at Liverpool ( thats what an England career does for you ) although he may accept less from us than from West Ham, it does appear as if he is now one of the self righteous England stars who irritate the life out of ordinary day people, his head appears to be in the clouds and he feels that he is so special that he can demand and get whatever he wants, so as far as I’m concerned, no thanks !

ibiza – people like Mourinho are clearly arrogant -but he probably has something to be arrogant about -whereas other people are also arrogant but have in reality nothing to be arrogant about.
I would love Percy to prove me wrong but for the life of me I cannot see him “changing his ways” – I see no evidence of enlightenment.
Having said that I still think we’ll get at least a couple of named players in with 2-3 lesser players in over the summer. Percy cannot (surely) in reality do any worse than last year -so there probably will be an improvement -hopefully not short term.

There’s no reason why Anzhi, PSG, Citeh, Chelski, Monaco et al shoud worry about the FFP rules. If they’re pushed, they’ll just resign from Eufa and form a league of their own. The long-mooted European Super League perhaps?

Such clubs are just pushing the boundaries and will cream off the best that’s going.

Now there’s ambition or is it just short-sighted greed and megalomania?

    Jesper, who is Ron Swanson?

Ibizatoon@ 10, when you refer to the need for arrogance to successfully manage, do you not mean confidence? Arrogance is often perceived as a weakness in a management style.

No joke it’s barely half an hour since I said Cabaye would be more likely to go to Italy or Spain and Twittsville is sparking up a rumour that Rudy Garcia wants to sign him at Roma – origin of the story not clear but NewsNow is involved in it from the off. That would be the blog aggregator site. So some nugget ITK hopeful is dredging the blog for their deepest fears ha ha, what a show!

OK – Darren Bent and £10m in exchange for Cisse who goes to Villa to escape the Wonga Shirt controversy ……… oh, wait, who’s ‘Dafabet’? 🙂

    Give it 20 minutes….

it depends upon how you use it, Mourinho, Wenger and Ferguson are all arrogant, but they used to try and make their opponents feel inferior, which worked well for them.
Lets face it, arrogance is a belief that you are better, which they used very well, self confidence is what made Kevin Keegan such a good manager, although he never believed that we were superior, he had the confidence to believe that we could be. So who won, the confident one, or the arrogant one, food for thought ?

We have no interest at all in signing him if we did why not bid now instead of waiting? Ashley will be going after bargains and freebies like always, Zero ambition and the sooner he packs up and goes the better he is taking the club backwards not forwards, FACT.

As for not getting PEA – the lad has talent we could use, but an attitude (remember the diamond encrusted boots) we can well do without. I prefer Bony, anyway, better suited to the PL.
