With some big clubs interested in what is said to be Newcastle’s number one striker target this summer – St Etienne striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – we didn’t think there would be much chance that we can get the 24 year-old to Tyneside this summer.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – £25M bid coming from Anzhi
And now another club with more sense than money – (yes another one) – this time Russia’s Anzhi, are reported to be readying a £25M bid for the Gabon striker.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who turns 24 next Tuesday seems to be in great demand this summer, and Newcastle will not bid that kind of money for the striker, any striker, if indeed these reports are correct.
And how Anzhi, who have signed Guus Hiddink to a one year contract extension, are going to meet the Financial Fair Play Rules of European clubs – where football clubs are being asked to balance their financial books – we have no idea.
If this news is correct – then it would seem to put Anzhi in the lead for the Gabon striker, and we doubt many other clubs would bid close to that amount, since in January his club St Etienne valued him at (only) around £12M, with Newcastle having a bid of £8.5M turned down late in that transfer window.
Why would a club bid twice the amount this clubs values him at – but we suppose this is not the real world – it’s the silly world of football – well, to be a little bit more accurate – it’s the silly season.
Maybe that’s why Newcastle will be considering strikers like Darren Bent this summer, who could be bought apparently for around £5M, and he has some good Premier League experience too.
