Newcastle Transfer Target Looking For A Very Good Club

There is some news today about Douglas, maybe Newcastle’s number one center-back target this summer, who we tried to sign last summer but for whatever reason our £4M bid was rejected.

Douglas _1522285a

Douglas – has a number of options

Douglas’ agent is Rodrigo de Silveira Da,  and in an interview with Sky Tyne and Wear he has said his client has a number of options:

“At the moment there is nothing official, we were in Europe last week and have some options.” “There is interest in England, Germany, Turkey and Russia so we are going to discuss all the opportunities.””

“His dream is to play in the Dutch national team at the World Cup in Brazil.” “We need to find a very good club. This is the reason we are waiting.”

Note to Rodrigo – Newcastle are a very good club – please sign along the dotted line. 😀

There was news on Tuesday this week from Italy that Newcastle were again after the center-back and that Newcastle had submitted the best offer for the free agent, but there’s no way of knowing whether those reports out of Italy were accurate.

But 93% of fans in our poll thought Douglas would be a good acquisition for Newcastle as a free agent.

Would Free Agent Douglas Be A Good Signing?

Loading ... Loading ...

The Brazilian-born Dutch center-back will become a free agent on July 1st,  when his contract expires at the end of this month – and Douglas joined Twente in 2007 from Joinville, and he played around 245 times with 16 goals in the six seasons he was in the Eredivisie.

And we are hoping we can sign the 25 year-old, because he would then offer some threat from corner kicks and free kicks into the box, and hopefully tighten up a Newcastle defense that conceded a massive 68 goals last season.

What do you think?

I see there’s another excellent prospective signing we’ve missed out on.

Heung-Min Son, moved to Leverkusan today to replace Schurrle who went to Chelsea.

Heung Min Son, at 20 years old has experience of european football, as a midfielder he’s got like 24 goals in 70 something games. He cost 7 million pound.

He’d already be an absolute star in our first team, imagine how good he could be at 26, 27?

Also would have raised our profile in asia.

I’m absolutely sick of seeing teams link with (yes I know its mostly specualtion) but big players, every club has possible transfers in to be excited about.

    We’re chasing Darren Bent..

Okore to villa then, hope we don’t regret not taking a chance on him. Like the James forrest link, decent winger and one of the few spl players that could do well in the prem.

With hearts whole squad up for sale, I’d definitely think Callum Paterson is worth a punt, wouldn’t cost much at all, he showed versus Liverpool that he has the potential to be a quality player.

imo perfect player at the perfect time with collo staying as he will have plenty of time to get used to prem and mbiwa ready for season after when they will become our main cb’s.

then touch wood when collo goes good/streete/mbabu will hopefully be more progressed to step into 3rd choice

I only would like to see Douglas come as back up for Coloccini leaving. Taylor, Mbiwa, Perch and Williamson are left though, so unless Willo is off to Cardiff I dont think even on a free we will try too hard.

More important to get Redmond, Ince, Sinclair and Bony first.

CB is a position that we are now not in much need of getting player in. at the minute we have colo mbiwa and saylor who are worthy enough to start and perch willo and good all as emergency cover
if colo leaves then it will be differant and we will certainly need another CB.
but if willo is who left the club then we could just go for a young CB because with decent players you have to put them into the team or give them big wages unless that team is a CL.

I won’t be betting in Villa getting that high

As for Douglas good for depth and would almost make our defence quality (question mark over RB cover for me but other than that very very solid) so would be good to have but not sure he’s a priority

I am still not sure Douglas is going to be better than what we already have is he honestly better than Taylor or Williamson ? I am not so sure he always looks like would make a serious error in every game and the pace of the game is so much faster than the Dutch league would think he would have a nightmare against the likes of Shane Long and other pacy forwards ?

Also would he be content with being on the bench as his agent says he wants to play to get in the world cup squad well so do Taylor, Mbiwa and Colo!!

I actually think we are pretty well stocked up for centre backs next season if no one leaves as we surely wont have us as many injuries as last season ! Should probably just try get that Pearce on a free transfer he would be better !

Should have signed OKORE when we had the chance though he would have been an upgrade on Taylor!!

We need 2 wingers and a striker !At a minimum!

    Proud,
We could have had our good news Heung Min Son and Okore for a combined £11m… Two twenty year olds with champions league experience.

Add one of Remy / Bony / Austin / Rhodes / Hooper / PEA / Guidetti / Castaignos, and many more.

Hopefully two but one striker may be all we’ll get.

Add Windeljum, or Pablo Saarabia to that and I don’t think anybody could be upset.

    1 cb
    1 playmaker
    1 winger (need 2)
    1 striker (need 2)

It wouldn’t be enough, but with outgoings hopefully the extra winger, Redmond? and young striker could be funded.

£20 million well spent would be enough, I go so far as to say £8m could come in from deadwood being thrown out.

But as time goes on, naturally enough the best bargains, most talented players available will be gone..

I know the window isn’t ‘officially’ open. But a lot of business, good business is being done. We’re doing nothing.

We usually sit back in this transfer window. Then we miss out on our targets. Simple thing is MA grudges parting with his cash. He only splashed out in january to save us from being relegated. But hopefully a top striker will come through the door.

I think we all need to be a little bit patient – whilst the anxiety levels may rise when we hear about what other clubs are doing -it’s just over a fortnight for the window to officially open – and we’ll then see the colour of Ashleys’ money and get an idea of what’s in prospect for us next season. I cannot be bothered now about checking out all these different players we are linked with -most of it will be rubbish journalism anyhow. But I would like the defence strengthened and a couple of forwards of the PEA/Bony style of player.

I agree with your comments that he may struggle, to begin with, in the Premiership just like Colo did. I don’t see him as better than Taylor, Mbiwa and Colo.

If he wants to play in the World Cup he will need to be first choice at Newcastle. Having Krul and Anita will be beneficial to him for the Dutch national team but I doubt the club would guarantee him first choice.

    Proud,
I understand it being kept quiet, in fact it’s one of the few things the clowns running this club do that I agree with.

But realistically it isn’t that hard to sign a player, newcastle united make it look that way, with penny pinching and talks, and talks and more talks and offering the smallest contract possible..

In reality at any other club, it’s bid low, the oppossing club want so much. Compromise.
The next day the player flies in for talks / contract.
The next day the player does a medical.
A player can easily be signed in 3 days, but I’ll say up to 7 days.

I’m fairly confident we won’t see anything in the way of new signings in the next 3 weeks.

If we are as active as you and many others say, surely something could be confirmed and presented to the fans in the next few days? But they aren’t and they won’t.

I’m also certain we aren’t chasing the best young players at the european under 21s like we should be, Mashley is scraping what he can from inside the barrell of premiership rejects, Darren Bent and who knows else.

    Sickens me

Do you know what our targets are? My guess is that only Carr, Pardew, Charnley, Llambias and perhaps Ashley know.

I know what targets Ed has listed, usually taken from newspapers, but I don’t think he has inside knowledge.

    @Slank

Yeah he may take a while but in all honesty I want to see a 1st choice pairing of Mbiwa and Colo as I reckon with Santon and Debuchy as fullbacks we will actually be solid next season

One of the main reasons we conceded so many goals was the fact our defence was under so much pressure with constant attacks because our strikers kept losing possession as well as the likes of Tiote offered no protection at all

Does not matter how good a defence you have if they are under pressure for most of the 90 its going to be hard not to ship goals

Even though we are totally slating Ashley etc the now in the January window he delivered 3 players that most people on the blog wanted and said we had no chance with whatsoever (Sissoko, Mbiwa and Debuchy)!

Imagine if we did get PEA , Ince and De Jong? DREAMLAND

I agree with black and white,
Carr is a fantastic scout, one of the very best, and I’m sure there are gifted players out there that he sees that MA and Dekka won’t fund.

He wanted Wanyama when he cost 900,000 in belgium as a 19 year old.

How much will Arsenal have to pay for him this summer. 10 million?

There are young lads out there right now that I know will be stars, lads playing under 18s in brazil, theres a teen in greece, a few in eastern europe and I feel helpless that I can’t reccomend them to newcastle, that newcastle aren’t ambitious enough to seek them out. And time and time again players I earmark turn out very expensive and become world class. Yet all i can do is watch..
