The Sun is reporting today that Fabricio Coloccini, Newcastle’s captain has told  Argentine TV that he plans to stay at y Newcastle.

Fabricio Coloccini – will be staying at Newcastle

Basically Fab is saying that Newcastle have told him they really want him to stay, so basically he’s going to respect that decision by his club.

This is great news and it means we will not have another Colo saga – that we had to put up with in January – and Coloccini proved just how valuable he is when he returned for the last three games of the season, and Newcastle looked so much stronger in defense.

This is what Colo said on Argentine TV:

“I have talked many times with San Lorenzo about moving back with them.” “My desire is to move back but that¹s not going to happen next season.”

“I didn’t move to San Lorenzo last season because Newcastle didn’t want me to leave.” “I’m not going to move to San Lorenzo now because Newcastle don’t want me to go.”

“I have to respect that decision.” “I’m a grateful person and Newcastle have given me the opportunity of playing in the Premier League, which is the elite of football — so I will stay at Newcastle.”

There was news last week that San Lorenzo simply couldn’t meet the fee that Newcastle were asking, and businessmen who could raise money for the club wanted to spend it on younger players.

And Coloccini still has three years left on his current contract, and it seems he will be willing to see out that contract , and that’s simply great news.

I feel really sorry for him. He clearly needs to be around his family for reasons speculated, but has shown absolute class in his presence and fight in the few games at the end of last season.

He is the best defender I have ever seen play in black and white, and would not begrudge him leaving, but so far only Vertonghen at Spurs seems to be the right man to replace such a talented CB.

Truly class defender, very underated, personally I would let him him leave as it is what he wishes but as long as we have a very good replacement lined up…
