No Offers For Cabaye – Newcastle Determined To Keep Him

12:35 pm, Saturday, June 15th, 2013 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 238 Comments

We had mentioned last night that the rumor that Yohan Cabaye was in Monaco and had already had passed a medical,  would need to be addressed by Newcastle today, whether it was true or not – and true to form the club have denied today the story has any truth in it at all.

yohan cabaye 321

Yohan Cabaye – no offers for the midfielder

We had cautioned that it all started with a tweet from French Football writer Robin Bairner, and he claimed the news was on the L’Equipe 21 web-site – but we couldn’t find anything on Cabaye  passing a medical  – and Robin also said he had it from a “sure source” who was in the medical team at Monaco FC  – but it was all false.

And indeed Newcastle have said that no offers have been received for any of their top stars including Cabaye – who is currently on holiday – after playing twice for France in their friendlies against Uruguay and Brazil in South America.

The Independent is reporting the news, and they are saying the deal was supposed to be for €28M (£23M) – which would have been a good price for the French International.

The news is that Yohan Cabaye remains part of Alan Pardew’s plans – and it will take a huge fee to move him this summer, since he’s also owner Mike Ashley’s favorite player on Tyneside.

And Yohan should be back to his best form once the new season opens, and he’ll be better off for the difficulties he went through in the last three months of the season with Newcastle.

What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger – as the saying goes – and if that’s true quite a number of our players should be better off for last season’s travails.

But if that kind of a real offer did come in for Cabaye this summer, we think Newcastle would sell.

What do you think?

    We love Torqtoon.

I’m pretty sure I speak for most of the population when I say that.

Only sell him if they re-invest every single last penny in this window.

toon252 – answer to Cabaye thread.
Why hit out on me? I just posted what other people posted on Twitter. It was France television that started it all, then a guy on twitter found that gaming board that seem to be the source of it.

The takeaway from my posts was that the only possible legit thing in this was that the guy profile name was the same as a rather obscure player out on loan from the club in question. If this was the same guy, it wouldn’t be impossible for him to be first one to break the news.

And isn’t that rather expected to get pissed on when you claim something like this? Unless you have tons of credibility.

So I wouldn’t say I did anything provoking.

pardews idea of freshening up the squad is to supply copious amounts of lynx in the changing room

  • 8 Barras // Jun 15, 2013 at 1:08 PM

So Coloccini is staying. If we manage to get a new Technical Advisor in, then in my opinion, we have managed to secure the two most important objectives for this window.

  • 9 ITUNDERASHELL // Jun 15, 2013 at 1:08 PM

Do you know any more details re: Thauvin mate?

  • 10 Barras // Jun 15, 2013 at 1:11 PM

If Pardew drops the ‘Coloccini is just like having a new signing’ line then we cannot slate him because, in this scenario, it is actually true.

Ummmm where have the club denied reviving bids????

    Get French Football ?@GFN_France
However, we can confirm that casual dialogue between Monaco and Newcastle has begun over the potential signing of Yohan Cabaye. #ASM #NUFC

  • 14 DevonToon // Jun 15, 2013 at 1:26 PM

Slank + Novo, Yanga has got to be next to colo next year A) cos he is a top ball playing cb B) who better to adjust to the prem next to than super colo? C) why stunt the growth of two promising wingbacks santon/haidara D) cos a back line of Debs-yanga-colo-santon is as good as anything else in the league! I dont even think im being mental saying that!

  • 19 Marty-Toon // Jun 15, 2013 at 1:47 PM

Cabaye will have a great season if he stays and I would like to see Douglas come in at CB with Sayls or Mbiwa with Collocini going into DM and sell on Tiote

  • 20 croftus5678 // Jun 15, 2013 at 1:47 PM

i love cabs he’s a great player and has everything in his game.

(here comes the but) 76 games 11 goals 11 assists tbh i thought he was better then this !
and if we do get 20+mil for him there are better positions we need strengthening in i.e. wing/striker.
we have plenty of complete mid’s in our team that would not weaken the team imo (anita/sissoko/bigi) would fit in snugly and not effect quality (could argue on bigi atm i suppose) and by selling cabaye could we get siem for a lower price maybe ?

  • 21 DevonToon // Jun 15, 2013 at 1:48 PM

If cabs does leave, its gunna be for stupid money, we all know that. We have a really decent first 11 and a fair strong bench, hopefully any cabs money will be spent on players like P.E.A and De Jong. To be honest id Suarez ur face for that! No excuses this year, Mikes gunna spend some money this summer!

  • 22 Joe Blog // Jun 15, 2013 at 1:52 PM

Sell Cabaye, we don’t want finesse and style here, not on Pardew’s watch! Replace him with Phil Neville – he’s available on a free.

  • 23 toonluvva // Jun 15, 2013 at 1:54 PM

Only a matter of time before we lose cabaye, hatem, cisse, tiote & krul though.

Why would flair players want to stay at NUFC?

  • 24 yo-yo // Jun 15, 2013 at 1:57 PM

We need another playmaker / midfield general anyway – even if Cabs stays we need a Siem de Jong to improve our creativity. Marv is great when he’s on song but I still have doubts aboiut his resilience and consistency.

  • 25 Rooster // Jun 15, 2013 at 2:00 PM

Croftus, Jonas Guttierez, 4,001 games, three goals three assist! if I had a crystal ball ha ha

  • 26 DevonToon // Jun 15, 2013 at 2:02 PM

Ps dont think for a second i want cabs gone, he would HAVE to be replaced, as he is the heartbeat of our mid… but the money being quoted is mental! U know mike will drive a hard bargain and PSG/Monaco wont mind over paying…

  • 27 expatmag // Jun 15, 2013 at 2:07 PM

    Good evening guys

I would not be too disappointed if Cabaye leaves as long it is to a club outside the PL and at a price in excess of 25m pounds.

I dont actually think he is worth any more than 15m pounds and knowing Ashley, he will drive a hard bargain with Monaco.

With the money, we could get 3 quality players in the mould of De Jong, Lens and PEA,

Anita and/or Marveaux could step up and replace Cabaye.

  • 28 DevonToon // Jun 15, 2013 at 2:09 PM

@23 i dunno… Good fellow players, top support, hero status, pretty decent money etc etc thats why! Tiote mugged chelsea off to stay with us the other summer for eg! I think the team can feel we are close to sumthin!

  • 29 expatmag // Jun 15, 2013 at 2:11 PM

I think you do Jonas a bit of a dis service here. His role in the team is changing and whilst he is no longer a creative player, his valiue is workrate which balances out against the more creative skillful players in the club.

It was due to him closing down the QPR keeper that Goufran got the goal that ultimately kept us up.

  • 30 DevonToon // Jun 15, 2013 at 2:12 PM

    I dunno maybe im deluded…

  • 31 Dennis Twice // Jun 15, 2013 at 2:15 PM

    Attack Cabaye attack attack!

  • 32 expatmag // Jun 15, 2013 at 2:16 PM

I dont think you are actually.

I can see a good season ahead, even if Cabaye leaves. Midfield is our best stocked area in the team and if we can get this rechnical advisor appointed and working with Pardew, I believe with a couple of astute purchases anmd a more offensive playing style, we could give the top 6 a big push and even one of the cups.

  • 33 croftus5678 // Jun 15, 2013 at 2:21 PM

no one can call guti’s work rate or his defending tbh but imo he’s in an attacking role and should be judged on his attacking/assisting ect ! theres too much work he does that does not achieve anything imo as in no end product.

he needs to be moved back if he would ever get into a team i pick as i personally think tiote position suits him most (this coming from a man who thinks all midfielders should have everything in there game like rob lee/anita/cabaye/sissoko/bigi) and think the position of defensive and attacking midfielder is a waste when a midfielder should be doing both.

  • 34 expatmag // Jun 15, 2013 at 2:29 PM

Yes, I agree amnd that is why it is vital that Pardew buys two wingers of the likes of Sinclair, Mertens, Lens etc which would enable Jonas to move back into a more defensive role

  • 35 JAMSHA // Jun 15, 2013 at 2:33 PM

    Sam Rhodes @SamuelRhodes_ 5h

    Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

  • 36 expatmag // Jun 15, 2013 at 2:34 PM

We are well short of competent pacy wingers. Jonas has lost his pace and creativity, Obertan should be sold as he is not given many opportunities now even though I beloeve of he were given constant specialist work at training, he would improve and Ben Arfa is nt direct enough and wants to beat everyone. He would be better used just behind Cisse.

  • 37 expatmag // Jun 15, 2013 at 2:35 PM

If this s right, then Bale is getting sold and Spurs are all cashed up

  • 38 DevonToon // Jun 15, 2013 at 2:35 PM

Rooster – i can only presume ur mocking his attacking qualitys? Cos those stats are pretty inaccurate… Since the 05/06 season he has started 277 games with 17 goals and 30 assists, still awful for a winger like…

  • 39 colwell // Jun 15, 2013 at 2:36 PM

Did you really say Debs-Colo-Yanga-Santon are as good as any defence in the league?

Santon cost way too many goals last season and Debuchy gets caught out all the time both are much better going forward than defending.

Colo and Yanga won’t work as there is no height between them Colo is awful in the air. Yanga was awesome at Lb add Douglas with Colo could be good.

I would be hugely disappointed if MYM is forced to play left back or benched for Saylor but we all know what Pardew is like with Tiote, Jonas, Saylor no matter how out of form they are.

MYM is a Rolls Royce and Saylor while indulging in a lot of chest beating for the crowd is more often than not a liability.

  • 44 jazzyp // Jun 15, 2013 at 2:40 PM

it was down to gutierrez mistakes that we got smashed against the macks, although percy played him out of position again.
gutierrez was bought as a attacking midfielder to primarily be played out on the wing like his first game for us when he was awesome against man utd.
im afraid cabs-arfa-anita-marveaux-sissoko-tiote even bigs offer more than gutierrez does

  • 45 expatmag // Jun 15, 2013 at 2:41 PM

It may all be juust twaddle. We may have already agreed terms or we may never have been really interested. Time will tell but PEA or no PEA, I still be;ieve we will get at ;east a couple pf purples in.

expat…It’s beautiful, thank you. I’m doing my part to show I’m English and going a bright shade of red :) How about down under, was it Melbourne where you said you were living?

As always, with most clubs and footballers, I can see him gone, but don’t think he is or is guaranteed to, if that makes any sense whatsoever.

  • 47 John Tudor // Jun 15, 2013 at 2:46 PM

whats these purples bruised and battered fruit

  • 48 expatmag // Jun 15, 2013 at 2:46 PM

Yes, I am in Melbourne. Very cold here as we are in winter now and just had a couple of days of incessant rain.

If Cabaye is sold and depending on the price, it makes good business sense bt only if the money is re-invested correctly in the team.

My main concern is that our wages apparently take up 67% of turnover although since I read that figure, Simpspn and Harper have left. I would imagine Ashley not wanting that figure toincrease much more

  • 49 Ibizatoon - Back By Popular Demand // Jun 15, 2013 at 2:52 PM

expat….Spent a few weeks back in Melbourne a few years ago, is there a place called St. Kildas? Traveled a fair bit of Oz, so may be mistaken :)

I am one who can see the business sense in selling a player for top money, but as you say, they then must re-invest wisely. I don’t actually even care if it all gets spent, as long as they address what we need. As they have shown, there are deals to be had and I really couldn’t care less if a player is free, £5m, £10m or £25m, I just want to see quality players at the toon and for next season a squad with a bit more balance.

Was this 67% after the January influx of players? I know they had done a lot of trimming of the wage bill so surprised to see it’s so high and I feel you may be right in that Ashley will be keeping a tight lid on that. Which leads to another question then, would we sacrifice a purple singing in order to accommodate keeping our current purples and matching higher wages they can get elsewhere?

  • 50 DevonToon // Jun 15, 2013 at 2:53 PM

Colwell – Yea I am, Debs was finding his feet, look at evra when he joined Utd, subbed on debut cos he was awful. Debuchy is class, ul see that next year! I personally dont think height is that key… Mapou is 6″ I think and he has a fair old jump on him, and colo is decent in the air. Yea santon has work hard on the def side of things but with mapou next to colo, colo can mop up any mistakes without worrying whats going on next to him…

  • 51 expatmag // Jun 15, 2013 at 2:59 PM

Yes, St.Kilda is an inner city south eastern suburb of Melbourne famous for its beach, restaurants, amisement park and once the red light district oof Melbourne.

I believe the salary ratio included the new signings as it was only menmtioned a couple of weeks ago.

As good a player Cabaye is, we are well stocked in central midfield and last season, I thought he flattered to deceive most of the time so f Monaco offer stupid money for him, I would grab it and recruiit to more vital positions like wingers and another forward.

  • 52 cockneymagpie90 // Jun 15, 2013 at 3:01 PM

All i can say is….. WOW!

Just 2 signings for around 25m and weve got a 1st team capable of winning the prem let alone the champs league places.

    Heres hoping!!!

  • 53 Ibizatoon - Back By Popular Demand // Jun 15, 2013 at 3:07 PM

expat…That’s the place. I remember a fair few afternoons sat by the beach, eating, drinking, good times!

You’re right, if we’re going to lose a player from any position, CM is the best as we are well equipped really.

I do think people have become a little blasé with regards to Cabaye however, the whole team struggled last season and the guy was suffering with depression. When in form, he is some player imo and will go on to do very well for himself. Still, life goes on and I shall not be losing too much sleep over him.

100% agree that priority is wingers and a striker.

Now, we must find something we disagree on soon before we’re accused of being the same person. What’s your thoughts on marmite?

  • 54 Ibizatoon - Back By Popular Demand // Jun 15, 2013 at 3:10 PM

Cocnkey…It really isn’t that far off at all. One of our biggest issues comes about in that we don’t often get to field the same team though. Hopefully we’ll not be so unlucky with injuries next season (for the record, not putting the whole season down to injuries….now wanting to start that debate again :) )

  • 57 cockneymagpie90 // Jun 15, 2013 at 3:19 PM

    The manager is the problem.

I couldnt see him producing this line up even if he had everyone fit to play.

Hed play taylor cb and move mbiwa to the left, hed also try and squeeze his beloved gutierrez in there somewhere and i think he has a new found love for sissoko and prob would have him playing infront of dejong.

He doesnt have a clue, simple as that.

    Ben Arfa-Cisse-Ince

8-10m for de jong. Good depth in the midfield w/ Anita, bigi, guti, Inman. Double transfer for Ince and Phillips from blackpool 11m. Gouffran, Phillips, marveaux depth at wingers. Buy charlie austin for 6m. Striker options Austin, cisse, Campbell Gouffran.

  • 65 DevonToon // Jun 15, 2013 at 3:30 PM

We all know pardew can have us playing really good football… So im hoping that after a good pre-season and a solid start we can get back to the football we played at the tail end of the season b4 last. Cockney…Wouldn’t waste my time telling you you’re wrong about a possible future event involving players we haven’t even signed.

Let’s just see how next season works out and if any lessons have been learnt.

  • 68 Sack Llambias // Jun 15, 2013 at 3:38 PM

A number of questions you and others have recently raised are answered below. The wage : turnover ratio @ 68.7 % does not include the January purchases as it covers the year to end of June 2012. Despite a 20% rise in the wage bill, the club’s figures for the financial year ending June 2012 mean Newcastle will have no difficulties in meeting Uefa’s new financial fair play regulations

After player amortisation, Newcastle recorded an overall profit of £1.4m. Although that was down on the £32.6m profit recorded 12 months ago, the latter figure was inflated by the £35m sale of Andy Carroll to Liverpool.

A 5.4% increase in turnover on the previous year was down to the team’s fifth-place finish boosting television income. But although the average attendance at St James’ Park rose to 49,936, ticket revenue fell by 7% after the club froze season ticket prices. Meanwhile commercial revenue fell by 12.7% at a club which has subsequently signed a lucrative new sponsorship deal with Wonga.

Operating costs remained stable at £21.6m but operating profit decreased from £13.3m to £7.5m. A key factor was an increase in the club’s wage bill, which has risen by 20% to £64.1m following the signings of a number of key players, including Yohan Cabaye, Davide Santon and Papiss Cissé. Their arrival helped push Newcastle’s wages-to-turnover ratio up to a less than ideally desirable 68.7%, an increase of 8.1% on last year.

Derek Llambias, Newcastle’s managing director, hopes to see the ratio of wages to turnover fall back to “around 64%” next year, adding: “We have a feelgood factor about what we are doing as a company. We are pleased with any profit, considering where we were in 2008-09. We had a £17m operating loss in our first year. We were in shock.”

Llambias also launched a staunch defence of the controversial agreement with Wonga and claimed he was not expecting a drop in sales of replica shirts. “It seems to be flavour of the month to criticise the deal, but you have clubs in partnerships with betting companies and drink companies,” he said.

  • 69 Ginger // Jun 15, 2013 at 3:42 PM

With a world class manager I don’t think we could win the title. You’re highly overeating our players. We don’t have any world class players, whereas the top teams do. Sure our players are good, but far from world class.

  • 70 Ibizatoon - Back By Popular Demand // Jun 15, 2013 at 3:44 PM

Sack Llambias…Thanks for that. Will have to read through it again as I think the sun is starting to get to me :)

  • 71 Sack Llambias // Jun 15, 2013 at 3:46 PM

Speaking at the same time in March 2013, Llambias also indicated that Mike Ashley, is willing to invest further in the squad during the summer when he hinted that they may diverge from the current policy of shopping almost exclusively in France. “There is money available,” said Llambias. “We are looking at several playing positions. Next year we will have extra TV money, there is a budget to spend.

“But our transfer policy remains the same. No trophy buys. Basically, we will continue our model as it is. It works so we won’t break it. We are actively looking at players and have been since October. All over Europe. It’s not just France. That’s been a good market for us but there are only so many you can get from there.”
Which is why I feel there should be a lot more optimism on here.

why are people putting De Jong in holding midfield roles when he’s a SS or attacking mid?

I doubt he’s a consideration to begin with. newcastle has enough attacking mids already.

I think that is a pretty good team but I also agree that Sissokho (not sure on spelling) is the man to replace Tiote in the defensive position as he is a box to box midfielder. Possibly not a title winning team but a good season together would see us near the European places. Everyone would have to be in their best form and no major injuries so they can gel together properly.

Colo for another season is the best news we will have this summer regardless if we sign Aubayang, Sakho and De Jong. Colo is one of the best CB i have seen at NUFC and i have seen some good CB here like Woodgate and Albert.

  • 116 Moe // Jun 15, 2013 at 6:35 PM

Hey guys, still new here since I don’t comment all that often although been following for years.

My take on Cabaye story is I don’t think we should sell him for 20-25M here is why:

-His passing and reading the game abilities are very rare in our squad and we will never be able to replace #FACT.
-Even if we get the amount of cash (20-25M), don’t you think our targets’ prices are gonna skyrocket all of sudden? so all talk about getting 3-4 players for that is nonsense.
-Cabaye played an important role in recruiting Debuchy, YMY, Sissoko. Him gone is gonna be less attracting ability to top french talents.
-What message is that going to send to other french players who joined us (mainly for Cabaye connections), NUFC is a selling club and one day we’ll all be sold to a better club. Meaning: don’t expect much loyalty from new recruits.

bottom line, selling him is a very bad idea.

  • 117 Tommyy // Jun 15, 2013 at 6:51 PM

Moe – I read up until ‘#fact’. A) That is not a fact, and B) This isn’t twitter.

  • 118 OhSholaAmeobi // Jun 15, 2013 at 6:54 PM

Anyone who says something like ‘oh cisse can go if he doesn’t want to wear wonga, he was crap last season’ or ‘cabaye can go, he was poor last season’ can meet me in a dark alleyway so i can kick some sense into your heads.

Where does it say a quote from Cisse anywhere saying he doesn’t want to wear wonga? Where does it say in any official channels that Cabaye is signing for Monaco?

Fact is we won’t know anything until it’s actually official. So give your heads a shake and stop believing all the tabloid bulls*** you read.

  • 119 Tommyy // Jun 15, 2013 at 6:55 PM

However I agree, we shouldn’t sell Cabaye if we can help it. He’s our only player who is highly regarded in world football. Good for our image.

  • 120 Toon-Prodigy // Jun 15, 2013 at 6:55 PM

    Cheers bud.

I see. I thought I hadn’t seen anything in regards to this.

My own opinion, I can’t see this happening personally. I have a feeling last season was put down to injuries and key players missing at key times. Thoughts are that Pardew will point to the fith place finish the season before where everyone involved had successful seasons. I can’t imagine Pardew would like to be told which way we will be playing technically. I also don’t see mike adding to the wage bill for something that was achieved without a year previously.

Looking at our coaches though, we have john Carver and Steve Stone. Im unsure about other staff and what their roles are within the club. I.e fitness and conditioning people. It does seem short though so maybe a coach of some type may come in with the squad seemingly growing now with the extra quality in depth.

    Interesting topic.

  • 121 toonking // Jun 15, 2013 at 7:08 PM

while we toon fans are getting so depressed and annoyed with the situation we are having due to transfer. we are certainly not alone imagine Liverpool are so annoyed at the minute with their suaez stories while spurs must be having a real worry about where the future lies with bale also now that everton have not got moyse I bet lots of stories will be going around linking players like fellani away from their club.

  • 122 jimiley // Jun 15, 2013 at 7:09 PM

Percy has seven more years to get us relegated and i am sure he will succeed.. He nearly succeeded this year but he did not reckon with QPR gifting us two goals. As Lambsarse says, if its not broken, there is no need to fix it. We wil look back on the Ashley years in 10 years time and realize that they have been a disaster. He is taking money out the club and some think he is a top geezer!!!!! He might spend 20 million this summer but remember that the TV money is an extra 70 million. Whose pocket is the missing 50 million going into? The Carroll money was spent on grass seed and water bottles if you didn’t know.

  • 123 jimiley // Jun 15, 2013 at 7:10 PM

Thats why Cabaye will be gone. We play hoof ball and footballers are surplus to requirements

  • 124 Rotonda heights // Jun 15, 2013 at 7:11 PM

Even with injuries our squad is still chock full of internationals and far superior to at least the bottom 10 clubs.

All those players don’t become bad overnight which suggests as per his whole career Pardew always gets found out.

As long as Percy and Big Mike stay at this club we are going back wards. Big Mike is filling his coffers and Percy plans to spend all the money Mike has nicked off us to buy Messi and play him in goal.

  • 129 sparky55 // Jun 15, 2013 at 7:23 PM

Pardew is undoubtedly the problem…the squad we have in the hands of a half decent manager would be at least 8 places higher than Pardew managed last year.

Whether or not we sell Cabaye has nothing to do with the clubs wishes…if he wants to go then he’ll go and it’ll then be down to how much we get for him.

Now ask yourself why he wants to go??? no prizes because it’s pretty fcuking obvious but answers on a post card or on this blog.

Just for the record it’s nothing to do with his permanent neck injury caused by watching the ball fly 30 yards over his head every two minutes.

  • 130 jimiley // Jun 15, 2013 at 7:26 PM

The fat guy is far from stupid. Ok, he has lent us 140 million because he does not want to pay interest on the loan. Do not think for a moment that he is not squirrelling that money back in the transfer market and from TV cash and he will be looking to sell the club for a lot more. He will make hundreds of millions out of us when he gets the right offer. We are the losers. Seen out team play recently?

Our squad deserves a better manager

  • 133 Toon-Prodigy // Jun 15, 2013 at 7:27 PM

No it’s not better than other teams though.

    Sammy Ameobi
Even Marveux didn’t come good until the end of the season. He put in poor displays when used out on the left.

All of the above are either passed it, not good enough, or not upto the standard required at this point in time. With the exception of Marveux coming into form late on in the season.

None of these could fill Ben Arfa, Cabaye, Colo, Tiote, Cisse’s shoes.

Ben Arfa, Cabaye, Colo, Tiote all missed half of last seasons games and had to be covered by that list above and five players brought in through January who all missed a handful of games each.

The five players who were brought in through January will provide that cover next season. They can’t be judged on just five months at the club.

Our squad now is better because of the January signings, take away our first 11 and we are still lacking greatly.

    Time for work lads,

    Catch yas in a bit.

  • 134 Tommyy // Jun 15, 2013 at 7:32 PM

  • 136 Abu Qatada - Alan Pardews right hook man // Jun 15, 2013 at 7:33 PM

I really don’t know why every one is worried as long as we receive no bids for Jonas or Shola it won’t get in the way of Pardews tactics or team selection and I’m convinced that Pardew has told all our team that being in Europe is why they were shit last season, so no need to worry about ambitious clubs turning the heads of NUFC players….

  • 137 jimiley // Jun 15, 2013 at 7:33 PM

Anybody think Cisse is not very good? He played most of the season and scored 8 league goals. He cannot hold the ball up and does not create anything. He is an out and out goalscorer who scores a few spectacular goals but does not score many goals. How is that class?

  • 140 gfp13 // Jun 15, 2013 at 7:41 PM

I think we should give pards this season and if he doesn’t improve the style of football we play. We had cisse/ba scoring for fun at 1 stage at that football suited them perfectly now all we ever see is cisse offside. 1 or 2 first team players plus a couple extra back ups and we can be looking back at European away trips. If pards doesn’t improve the play we do tho I would turn to someone like marcelo bielsa or vitor perreira. Whether they would come to us is a debate for another time

  • 141 sparky55 // Jun 15, 2013 at 7:41 PM

cisse’s no good in a team that plays hoofball because he’s not built to hold up play, he’s not tall, he’s not strong, even his first touch is a bit heavy but if you want a player on the end of a ball in the penalty box then there’s not many I would change him for…

…it’s the way Pardew sets up the team that makes him look bad and has resulted in his poor return last year.

He’s not been the same since Ba left the team…he was the link player we don’t have now…if we can find that link player then Cisse will flourish again but I don’t think he wants to play for Pardew any more.

    Just my opinion

  • 142 Big Pappa Cissé // Jun 15, 2013 at 7:43 PM

  • 143 luke.r // Jun 15, 2013 at 7:44 PM

Hi guys, been on this website a lot and thought its about time I actually commented instead of just reading about what you lot say.

I think if we get around 25 mil for cabaye then Ashley would and probably should take it. Though I don’t want to see him go, thats too much to turn down and if we could get De jong in or possibly Marin from Chelsea, that would be some very good business.

As for defenders, i’m so happy to see Colo is staying but we really need to buck up at the back. Debuchy looked terrible at defending, though i’ll give him ther benefit of the doubt as it’s always hard to go to a new league in the middle of a season and Santon isn’t impressing me at all though he looks great going forward, the boy cant defend! Heard we were linked with Sakho and that would be an excellent buy, I would love to have him, and stick Yanga out on the left, he did a good job at the end of last season.

And please dont get my started on Jonas! He runs a lot yeah.. and i do love that in a player. But the amount of mistakes he made really cost us, he looks like he’s got no confidence.

sorry for the rant guys i know this was very long lol

  • 144 sparky55 // Jun 15, 2013 at 7:44 PM

  • 145 jimiley // Jun 15, 2013 at 7:45 PM

Do you really fancy Cisse in a one on one with the keeper? The true test of a top goalscorer/striker? He might hit two thirty yarders a season but he misses a load of easier chances. A very poor Andy Cole.

  • 146 Edmond // Jun 15, 2013 at 7:46 PM

I like japan, I reckon they will win 3-1, kagawa 2 goals, honda 1

  • 147 Mister Tuff // Jun 15, 2013 at 7:49 PM

jimiley @137 cannot disagree with your comments about Cisse. But the fault as sparky says is the way he is played. He is so easy to dispossess playing with his back to goal – just a little nudge in the back by a defender and the attack breaks down. Finding a strike partner is the answer. He is sharp enough – his forte is finishing not creating.

  • 148 Mister Tuff // Jun 15, 2013 at 7:52 PM

sparky @143 – I posted that yesterday -had to try it again – I think the expectation of a possible new player excites until the image is viewed. Still think it’s funny.

  • 149 toonarmydownsouth // Jun 15, 2013 at 7:52 PM

What cabaye have been watching this season his passing has been abysmal!
All season, couldn’t hit a cross field pass his short passing was poor tbh rarely found a killer pass his corners were shocking as we’re his set pieces
I doubt he stood out more than any other average midfielder in the league
He certainly has the potential to be a top top player but he’s not there yet, don’t think anyone in our team is tbh maybe colo but that’s it

  • 150 toonarmydownsouth // Jun 15, 2013 at 7:54 PM

Kind of ironic really seeing as most people thought ba was holding cisse back and couldn’t wait to see him out the club……

  • 151 toonarmydownsouth // Jun 15, 2013 at 7:56 PM

According to NUFC Stats cisse had 25 clear cut chances last season (so that doesn’t include his right or wrong offsides) and finished 8
For me that’s not good enough

  • 152 jimiley // Jun 15, 2013 at 8:02 PM

Cisse plays like Andy Cole with a quarter of the end product. Cisse is well overrated. Chelsea want rid of Ba who is a much better striker. I would have Ba back in a flash. Much better than Cisse and Carroll. The fact that Chelsea want rid after four months shows how far we are from the summit. We are making up the numbers and will win nowt. But its my nowt. Just have to accept it as I have for 50 years.

  • 153 Edmond // Jun 15, 2013 at 8:04 PM

  • 154 sparky55 // Jun 15, 2013 at 8:04 PM

toonarmydownsouth…kind of coincidental our real slide coincided with Ba leaving.
look at the way we played in the second half of 2012 when Ba was wide or the link player just after Cisse joined us and see how many Cisse scored…then look at the way we played when Cisse was pushed wide and Ba was the centre forward collecting all those hoofballs in the early part of last year.

Cisse scored all those goals when Ba was the wide/link player and Ba scored all the goals when Cisse was pushed on the wing.

When the service is there Cisse will score…if he’s on the end of a 30 yard hoofball he’s not gonna score

  • 155 sparky55 // Jun 15, 2013 at 8:07 PM

Happy for Bent to come in and replace Cisse though!

  • 156 toonarmydownsouth // Jun 15, 2013 at 8:07 PM

Would love Ba back was gutted to see him go!
The sad thing is we really weren’t that far from the summit, but other teams saw themselves slipping and did the smart thing, they invested, we stood still and know its seems like we’re getting left in the dirt

Apparantly citeh have signed Isco great player

  • 157 toonking // Jun 15, 2013 at 8:11 PM

sparky pardew can set players up how ever he want but stuff like how the pass is decided by the players themselves so if they want to play short passes they can.
also if they are going to get teams to make a bid for them then they need to prove they have the skills and if they still fail to prove much then their is only one choice left hand in a transfer request.
if it was luck that got us to finish 5th then how can you not put it down as luck that caused us to finish in the bottom.
if it was with other teams not knowing pardew well when we finished 5th then the same could be said about most the team because they were quite new too.

  • 167 ~ Phoenix Warrior Perch~ // Jun 15, 2013 at 8:24 PM

Couple key things imo that need to be addressed at the club,

    1. Pardew needs to stop relying on his favorites and actually start players who are in form and are deserving of the starting 11. Many times he has opted for his favorite regardless of how poor they have been. Take Tiote for example, a blind man could see that for the majority of last season he was utter sh1te, yet he always seemed to start ahead of Anita and Perch, who prior to being relegated to the bench were on cracking form and putting in several MoM worthy performances for the team.

Logically any manager would put the best performing player at their disposal in the role, not the player with the fanciest name/nickname, yet Pardew does the opposite.

    2. His substitutions have to be sorted out. On more then one occasion he has taken off an influential flair player and brought on a defensive player / fodder player. Granted on several occassions it was to protect and rest the player for a Europa game/they just came back from injury, but in many instances this was simply not the case.

    3. Tiote needs to get his act together and re-find the form from two seasons ago where he completely bosses the game, i.e. our 3-0 win against United where tiote was just a juggernaut bossing the game. His form last season was terrible, his recklessness has given the opposition free kicks in dangerous spots, he caused us 3 points against the mackems. If he is going to continue faffing about like that he should just leave.

    4. Guttierez, Either he leaves or he doesn’t get a spot in the first 11. I agree with many that his work rate is second to none and he has been helpful defensively, but for christ sake we bought him as an attacking player, his crosses are often cr@p, he hardly scores. The only good thing he really does attacking wise is win as a free kick by going to ground easy.

    5. Somebody please teach Cisse the god damn offside rule. Thanks.

kevy…just my opinion….I don’t expect everyone to agree but Bents record speaks for itself and he’ll be hell bent (sorry about that!) on proving Villa wrong and getting back into to the England team…I think the timing’s perfect to take him on board on the cheap and think he’s 15 goals guaranteed.

  • 170 Big Pappa Cissé // Jun 15, 2013 at 8:28 PM

    @ sparky

Bent over Cisse ? , come on now. Bent is almost 30 and can’t even get starts for a poor Villa side. We have seen what Cisse can do with the right service, I dont recall Bent ever getting 13 in 13.

English doesn’t mean better, as for Carroll and Bent up front there are much better options for the price they will cost.

On another note, Brazil are awful to watch these days. Give me Ronaldo,Carlos,Cafu, Rivaldo & Rhonaldinho over this lot.

  • 171 sparky55 // Jun 15, 2013 at 8:30 PM

  • 172 kevymartins // Jun 15, 2013 at 8:31 PM

Everybody knows Bent holds zero appeal to NUFC powers that be, Nevertheless, 2 strikers need signing and it’ll be darned tircky signing 2 better than him.

  • 175 Big Pappa Cissé // Jun 15, 2013 at 8:38 PM

    @ Sparky

I don’t think Cisse will leave. Didn’t we have the same rubbish with Ba last season and Virgin Money ? . Cisse obviously likes it here and has just had an off season IMO, mostly down to Pardew.

IMO Cisse needs support, whether it be the 4-3-3 system or a more helpful striker than Ba.

    Option 1 :

    Option 2 :

  • 176 Rotonda heights // Jun 15, 2013 at 8:41 PM

We were the worst long ball team in the league with a team of highly skilful technicians . Only 1 man to blame

  • 177 9 // Jun 15, 2013 at 8:44 PM

    Phoenix Warrior@166
Perfectly fair points, but Tiote was but one of many who displayed useless form after having shown magnificence previous season, which is why the same players under the same manager crashed to 5ht bottom from 5th top. I have no possible clue why our (previous) top players lost form for a whole season, but let’s hope things turn out better next season. Only Benny and Ba were up to form, one sold because of contract and one injured long term. We desperately need to replace Ba + a reserve striker. Anybody English, played for country, loves NUFC available anywhere?

  • 178 sparky55 // Jun 15, 2013 at 8:46 PM

BPC…why on earth do you think Hernandez and Remy would come to newcastle managed by Pardew

  • 179 Rotonda heights // Jun 15, 2013 at 8:49 PM

Yes some injuries like all clubs but Anita can’t get a game ahead of Perch, Tiote and Jonas and Marveaux is usually on the bench.

Teams like Norwich etc have far less resources. A manager should be judged on how he can motivate the players at his disposal not just cite injuries all the time.
Plus are the injuries a direct result of his archaic coaching methods?

  • 180 Big Pappa Cissé // Jun 15, 2013 at 8:50 PM

No more surprising than Cabaye, M’Biwa or Sissoko joining us. Hernandez a longshot but Remy not so much. You never know until you table a bid

  • 181 ~ Phoenix Warrior Perch~ // Jun 15, 2013 at 8:51 PM

I just highlighted Tiote, because he was the most obvious imo. Compared to two season’s ago he looked a completely different player. It honestly got to the point where I dreaded seeing him start.

  • 182 9 // Jun 15, 2013 at 8:51 PM

    Jim Iley @151
Sorry to be so late, just joined in. Cisse is a fantastic talent, a natural goalscorer, these people most definitely do not grow on trees, we have to keep him. Ba is also tremendous, both lads have done NUFC proud and owe us nowt. As Remy slipped through the net (for £80,000 a week, who wouldn’t?)we have failed to replace Ba. We need to do so + a quality reserve, giving us 3 first-team goalscorers.

  • 183 gonufc (not Arf' bad) // Jun 15, 2013 at 8:52 PM

Like I said, a long shot but you never know until you table a bid. Depends on his character and if he likes sitting on the bench. He is just my ideal choice for that role, others would be Kone or Long.

  • 194 sparky55 // Jun 15, 2013 at 9:10 PM

yep…I’d take Honda just as a squad player initially…and because he’s on a free I’m sure he’d be happy to come…unlike PEA and Martens and Remy and Hernandez and all the other rediculous names being banded around at the minute….these guys are all to good to want to come to newcastle…especially newcastle managed by the muppet

  • 197 9 // Jun 15, 2013 at 9:13 PM

OK, gents, let’s cut to the chase. I assume you agree with the following assumptions; 1 Cisse stays; 2 He needs support in the striking department: 3 we need a top-class reserve striker as well,
If agreed, then we have to sign 2 top-class Premier-quality strikers. We know our (correct)budgetary constraints, so…………….who is it to be?

  • 198 gonufc (not Arf' bad) // Jun 15, 2013 at 9:14 PM

  • 202 davis_toons // Jun 15, 2013 at 9:18 PM

For Yanga Mbiwa, who knows where Pardew will play him next season?

RB, CB, LB, DM, M, AML/R

Then he will lost his way and become a Jonas. (always lacking of an end product)

Thats when Pardew single handedly destroy a promising player will lots of potential to improve at other clubs.

Because Bale is a much better player. I rate Neymar and all but he has a long way to go yet. Bale doesn’t need to do all the fancy tricks and can just glide past players. Plus he has done it in one of the best leagues in the world & Champions League for a couple of years now.

Put it this way, Zidane cost less than Neymar. Madness

    Bent and Berbatov: I am not expressing any opinion as to how successful this would be, you could be right, but in my opinion the chances of NUFC signing these guys is pretty easy to assess, as follows;
    Bent 0%
    Berbatov 0%
I’m looking for realistic options, as I hope to God the NUFC are, too

  • 214 Big Pappa Cissé // Jun 15, 2013 at 9:32 PM

  • 215 gonufc (not Arf' bad) // Jun 15, 2013 at 9:37 PM

@Big Pappa – totally agree on Neymar and Bale. If things don’t go his way then Neymar is total style over substance, seems to think the odd trick makes up for contributing nothing.

And, Can’t believe I’m saying this, but Bale doesn’t dive as much!

  • 216 toonking // Jun 15, 2013 at 9:39 PM

I doubt many of you who blame pardew for everything will understand me but I will do it anyway.
the reason we had such a bad season was probably started off by demba ba, what happened was knowing that he had a clause in his contract he could force himself to get his own way knowing their would be a risk that he would get an easy move. So because pardew had only two strikers in the squad he had to give ba what he wanted as he had already experienced one January window where the striker he lost was not replaced. so when he went with that 4-2-3-1 formation just so ba was happy things didn’t get off as well as he thought so unlike the previous season where we were still unbeat the first 13 games last season we only managed 3W and were sitting 12th and if that was not bad enough injuries were kicking in.
so because we had such a bad start pressure and worry becomes a much greater problem and to make things worse most of the players are not use to a relegation battle.
next problem ba gives us a surprise when he still left the club leave so not only are we panic buying players for injuries but now trying to find another striker which we failed to sign which left us with just one cisse who was not confident at all. so as we kept dropping further down the table the real panic started and hoofball seem to be the only option as passing short would get more tackles leading to more injuries and when ever the ball is in our half we would be desperate to clear it.

I do blame pardew for some things.
but if ba is able to show signs of a good player when pardews tactic were bad then why could HBA and cabaye do the same.

  • 217 wolfshead@toon // Jun 15, 2013 at 9:45 PM

  • 220 9 // Jun 15, 2013 at 9:53 PM

Wolf @ 216 probably has it right re Pardew knockers; but I like much of your call, esp re Ba and his contract trump card: well done to any manager trying to keep him on board. I was surprised he wasn’t signed away last summer, and, in my ignorance, I assumed our owner had made a financial offer which kept him and his agent on board; this being so (in my mind) I wasn’t clear why his clause was allowed to operate in January but. no doubt, some chaps who are less ignorant than I can tell us why this occurred.

  • 222 toonking // Jun 15, 2013 at 9:58 PM

TADS no I am not blaming ba alone what I am saying is the saga with ba wanting to be in the centre is where it probably all starts as pardew then will be getting concerned that he might loose another striker and not get him replaced.

I like Cisse and despite apparently not being able to give him the service he needs I’d like to see him stay, but if you could get Carroll and Bent in for the same price then absolutely, but the wage demands of both would make such an unlikely deal practically impossible. Even so, both players on form would be in a Hodgson England World Cup squad, and are certainly good enough for the Toon.

  • 232 AndyNUFC // Jun 15, 2013 at 10:29 PM

Stuart do you think Pardew is like Redknapp – gets his boss to fire up the PS3 and unload the dosh whenever he wants a player?

Toonking our chairman assumed 1 £6M signing would cover us for the whole season (Sissoko, Gouffran & Mbiwa were for the summer).

Then in Jan Ba’s agent had wormed his client into believing Chelsea was his big money spinner, so our chairman waited until he was sold before making a move for Remy. If we set off the morning of Jan 1st, maybe showed real conviction, we could have got him.

Having said that, the outcome of his upcoming trial may show we dodged a bullet.

Hindsight is such a beautiful thing…

Stuart I often wonder that myself but at the end of the day, every fan at every club thinks “why did we not pay some money for that player?”

We have an approach clearly designed to buy young at a reasonable price in order to develop and sell at a good profit. It is a principle of Ashley to get this club making money so, if that is at the front of his mind, if we are a striker short, I doubt it will change his mind to start throwing cash around.

    Just have to accept it.
