We had mentioned last night that the rumor that Yohan Cabaye was in Monaco and had already had passed a medical, would need to be addressed by Newcastle today, whether it was true or not – and true to form the club have denied today the story has any truth in it at all.
Yohan Cabaye – no offers for the midfielder
We had cautioned that it all started with a tweet from French Football writer Robin Bairner, and he claimed the news was on the L’Equipe 21 web-site – but we couldn’t find anything on Cabaye passing a medical – and Robin also said he had it from a “sure source” who was in the medical team at Monaco FC – but it was all false.
And indeed Newcastle have said that no offers have been received for any of their top stars including Cabaye – who is currently on holiday – after playing twice for France in their friendlies against Uruguay and Brazil in South America.
The Independent is reporting the news, and they are saying the deal was supposed to be for €28M (£23M) – which would have been a good price for the French International.
The news is that Yohan Cabaye remains part of Alan Pardew’s plans – and it will take a huge fee to move him this summer, since he’s also owner Mike Ashley’s favorite player on Tyneside.
And Yohan should be back to his best form once the new season opens, and he’ll be better off for the difficulties he went through in the last three months of the season with Newcastle.
What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger – as the saying goes – and if that’s true quite a number of our players should be better off for last season’s travails.
But if that kind of a real offer did come in for Cabaye this summer, we think Newcastle would sell.
What do you think?

Comment #6toon252 – answer to Cabaye thread.
Why hit out on me? I just posted what other people posted on Twitter. It was France television that started it all, then a guy on twitter found that gaming board that seem to be the source of it.
The takeaway from my posts was that the only possible legit thing in this was that the guy profile name was the same as a rather obscure player out on loan from the club in question. If this was the same guy, it wouldn’t be impossible for him to be first one to break the news.
And isn’t that rather expected to get pissed on when you claim something like this? Unless you have tons of credibility.
So I wouldn’t say I did anything provoking.

Comment #8So Coloccini is staying. If we manage to get a new Technical Advisor in, then in my opinion, we have managed to secure the two most important objectives for this window.

Comment #14Slank + Novo, Yanga has got to be next to colo next year A) cos he is a top ball playing cb B) who better to adjust to the prem next to than super colo? C) why stunt the growth of two promising wingbacks santon/haidara D) cos a back line of Debs-yanga-colo-santon is as good as anything else in the league! I dont even think im being mental saying that!

Comment #20i love cabs he’s a great player and has everything in his game.
(here comes the but) 76 games 11 goals 11 assists tbh i thought he was better then this !
and if we do get 20+mil for him there are better positions we need strengthening in i.e. wing/striker.
we have plenty of complete mid’s in our team that would not weaken the team imo (anita/sissoko/bigi) would fit in snugly and not effect quality (could argue on bigi atm i suppose) and by selling cabaye could we get siem for a lower price maybe ?

Comment #21If cabs does leave, its gunna be for stupid money, we all know that. We have a really decent first 11 and a fair strong bench, hopefully any cabs money will be spent on players like P.E.A and De Jong. To be honest id Suarez ur face for that! No excuses this year, Mikes gunna spend some money this summer!

Comment #24We need another playmaker / midfield general anyway – even if Cabs stays we need a Siem de Jong to improve our creativity. Marv is great when he’s on song but I still have doubts aboiut his resilience and consistency.

I would not be too disappointed if Cabaye leaves as long it is to a club outside the PL and at a price in excess of 25m pounds.
I dont actually think he is worth any more than 15m pounds and knowing Ashley, he will drive a hard bargain with Monaco.
With the money, we could get 3 quality players in the mould of De Jong, Lens and PEA,
Anita and/or Marveaux could step up and replace Cabaye.

I think you do Jonas a bit of a dis service here. His role in the team is changing and whilst he is no longer a creative player, his valiue is workrate which balances out against the more creative skillful players in the club.
It was due to him closing down the QPR keeper that Goufran got the goal that ultimately kept us up.

I dont think you are actually.
I can see a good season ahead, even if Cabaye leaves. Midfield is our best stocked area in the team and if we can get this rechnical advisor appointed and working with Pardew, I believe with a couple of astute purchases anmd a more offensive playing style, we could give the top 6 a big push and even one of the cups.

no one can call guti’s work rate or his defending tbh but imo he’s in an attacking role and should be judged on his attacking/assisting ect ! theres too much work he does that does not achieve anything imo as in no end product.
he needs to be moved back if he would ever get into a team i pick as i personally think tiote position suits him most (this coming from a man who thinks all midfielders should have everything in there game like rob lee/anita/cabaye/sissoko/bigi) and think the position of defensive and attacking midfielder is a waste when a midfielder should be doing both.

Yes, I agree amnd that is why it is vital that Pardew buys two wingers of the likes of Sinclair, Mertens, Lens etc which would enable Jonas to move back into a more defensive role

Comment #36We are well short of competent pacy wingers. Jonas has lost his pace and creativity, Obertan should be sold as he is not given many opportunities now even though I beloeve of he were given constant specialist work at training, he would improve and Ben Arfa is nt direct enough and wants to beat everyone. He would be better used just behind Cisse.

Comment #38Rooster – i can only presume ur mocking his attacking qualitys? Cos those stats are pretty inaccurate… Since the 05/06 season he has started 277 games with 17 goals and 30 assists, still awful for a winger like…

Did you really say Debs-Colo-Yanga-Santon are as good as any defence in the league?
Santon cost way too many goals last season and Debuchy gets caught out all the time both are much better going forward than defending.
Colo and Yanga won’t work as there is no height between them Colo is awful in the air. Yanga was awesome at Lb add Douglas with Colo could be good.
