Joe Kinnear has always gone against the local press in Newcastle, and he did the same thing yesterday when he gave an interview for about 14 minutes with talkSport, in which he continually made misstatements about his past, and managed to mispronounce the names of Derek Llambias (Lambeeze), Yohan Cabaye (Cababs), Ben Arfa (Ben Afra), Jonas Gutierrez (Gueterizzi) and Shola Ameobi (Shola Amemobi).
Joe Kinnear – embarrassing Newcastle United
And we thought it was bad when he talked about a certain Charles Insomnia in January of 2009.
And Joe probably made a huge mistake by criticizing the Newcastle fans, who seem already dead against him becoming the Newcastle Director of Football, which by the way has still not been announced by Newcastle – only by Joe.
This is what Joe said towards the end of his interview yesterday about the Newcastle fans.
“To all the fans who don’t agree with this decision, shall I bring Llambeeze back in?. What do you want? What do they want?”
“I heard a silly comment of ‘what can I attract?’ I can open the door to any manager in the world, anyone, that’s the difference. I’ve spent my whole life talking to Alex Ferguson, week in, week out, what would you do?”
“I can pick the phone up at any time of the day and speak to Arsene Wenger, any manager in the league. In all the divisions.”
“I don’t know what angle they’ve got, if they want to sit down and argue with me… Some are talking out of their backsides, a load of tosh. I’m not accepting it, as simple as that. I have certainly got more intelligence than them, that’s a fact.”
Newcastle fans criticize their manager often, that’s part of the heritage at Newcastle, it’s part of the manager’s job on Tyneside, and Alan Pardew is finding out you have to be able to take the severe criticism when things don’t go well.
But at heart Newcastle fans love their club, they love Newcastle United – and we have probably hugely under-stated that.
And one thing they don’t want to see is a person embarrassing the football club, and unfortunately that’s just exactly what Joe Kinnear has been doing over the last 36 hours.
Joe complains about being attacked by the press, but in yesterday’s interview he has given them even more ammunition against him, and it’s on the same level as his first interview as Newcastle’s interim manager back in September, 2008, when his tirade against Simon Bird of the Daily Mirror, contained the F word 52 times.
Mike Ashley must come in and sort this thing out quickly today, before it causes even more embarrassment and damage to Newcastle United Football Club.

Following the toon has turned me to optimism on more occasions than I can remember!
I just get the impression he’s just that kind of guy. A bit like when the prosecution question the accused in a courtroom and they crumble into a mess.
That’s joe in a press environment, loses his head!
Again I’m trying to see the sense in this. I always try to think of the fact that mike Ashley didn’t become a multi millionaire by making stupid decisions! That usually cheers me up!

Comment #44If this turns out to be true, and he has been appointed DOF.
Considering his health worries, he has got to be the maddest bloke I have ever witnessed for this kind of introduction and the grief he has brought himself.
What kind of 66 year old bloke with that sort of health history does that?

I am writing this letter to you in both bemusement and also stunned shock at firstly your lack of class towards the great Newcastle united fan base and secondly you absurd ludicrous claims to actually being a football manager.
This Is not an attempt to disrupt anything at Newcastle United, however, alongside myself, I am sure there are Newcastle fans up and down the country in complete shock over the events of the past couple of days.
I reference your statements on the following subjects:
1: You have won 3 manager of the year awards. As far as my research can see, it would seem that you only have one of these to your name (and to be fair I am wondering how this is even the case)
2: You have never got any team relegated. Well a simple stroll through the history books and you will find a certain Luton Town were indeed relegated. Guess who was involved with them at that time… I will give you a clue- it was you!
3: Your unbelievable defence of your “record” at Newcastle. In fact you are, in my opinion, single handily the worst manager I have ever known at this illustrious and historic football club. This is made even more remarkable considering the likes of Ruud Gullit, Graeme Souness and Kenny Dalglish have managed our club. Whilst I don’t rate the above for that they did at Newcastle in a managerial capacity, I have respect for them because of what they have individually achieved in their glittering football careers.
4: If you are the new director of football, as you have rabbled on about to various media outlets, apart from crucially, the official club website/media outlet, your lack of big name player interaction is very scary indeed. How can you a team you “managed” which contained the likes of Vinnie Jones, Robbie Earle, Neil Ardley etc put you in a position where you will have the final say on the likes of Ben Arfa, Cabaye, Sissoko, Tim Krul etc Not to mention the incoming players. These players are in a different league to what you have been involved with and what you know about football. I guess it is okay, I am sure you can convince Hans Segar to come out of retirement along with the rest of those “crazy gang” members
5: Speaking of players, your recent claim that you were involved with the signing of Tim Krul, again I find this astonishing. As far as I am aware, you were not even a part of the Newcastle set up when he first signed. In fact it was Graeme Souness who was manager when he joined. So if anyone can claim to have brought him in, it’s him.
6: Your previous comments about the Geordie public not accepting you because you are not from the area. I am sure this is the same for Rob Lee, Faustino Asprilla, Coloccini, Laurent Robert, David Ginola, Les Ferdinand, Shay Given- this list quite literally goes on. Its not because you are not a Geordie that no one likes you, it is because you seem inept to build public relations, are stuck in a bygone era that has well and truly been eclipsed by modern football standards and ultimately we just didn’t like you for who you are.
7: If you are the director of football, then PLEASE learn to pronounce the players names correctly. I don’t want to lose the likes of Cabaye, Ben Arfa etc due to your illiteracy of basic surnames. Remember “Insomnia”?!?!?!?!?!?!?! One note to mention, SIR Bobby Robson had a similar trait, although his managerial record surpasses any thing you have aver “achieved” in your career. I am assuming you are still awaiting permission to have a statue in your honour outside St James Park…
8: Most importantly, hence why I saved this point until last, your claim that you have more intelligence than Newcastle United fans is appalling. To make a sweeping generalisation such as this is an absolute outrage. I am not even going to comment in detail on this this as there is absolutely no substance behind this claim. Just for further reference though Joe, if you are as clever as you say you are and as good a manager as you think you are then firstly you would have managed at the very top and secondly your vernacular would contain more than swear words and slang. You are an absolute joke!!!
I could go on and on about how bad you are and how likely you will be a disaster appointment (as before), but I will let time sort that out. I of course am no footballing genius and have no football management experience whatsoever, but I am not comparing myself to you Joe, I am comparing yourself to how you perceive yourself and my experience of being a Newcastle United fan. Oh and for the record I am not a fully fledged Geordie from birth… but I am not hated by the Geordie nation!!!!!
Yours angrily,
Chris Excell
It must be noted, your recent statements have been made via TalkSport, local Newcastle press, Sky Sports and also BBC.

kinnear could yet be a masterstroke, wait and see. behind all of the absolute rubbish that comes out of his mouth is actually a sensible strategy.
let llambias get back to what hes good at, let pardew do what he is good at, man to man management, speaking to the media, and then behind the scenes have this absolute nutjob
in all seriousness if he can bring in decent players under carrs say so, and helps us climb the league i dont give a damn what the media make of him.

Comment #60Yes there IS a “lot of negativity” on the blog at the moment wrapped up in confusion with a generous side serving of bewilderment and drenched in a lumpy “chaos” sauce.
I think it can be safely said that this knocks Mourinho’s second coming into a cocked hat.
If JFK is ill then one would hope that even MA can see that enough is enough and bring this pantomime to an end
(“Oh no he won’t”)
Whatever happens I will always follow the toon…
who knows?… I may be a thick geordie fan but just maybe one day I will understand why Mike Ashley does what he does.
For the time being I have taken refuge in “dark humour” to assist me in digesting Mr. Ashley’s latest cunning stunt.
Such as:
I hear Kinnear is looking at Lescol, Questran and Capoten…they’re not players, just a change in his medication

Comment #63One thing I’ve learned from reading this blog over the last 4 years is that its very easy to jump the gun. Like when Ssn find the village idiot to question live on tv. And then that’s the view of the toon army!
We do fall into these traps too easily in my opinion. Let the dust settle then judge the decisions. And possibly panic!
Lets not forget that it’s very quiet on the news front in general as everyone’s on holiday! Do we are sky’s food and drink right now!
Still I know the inside workings of the lions tour now! Good lord they promote this!

Good post mate but I have to say I completley disagree!
I don’t think he’s a football man, maybe he was a couple of decades ago when he was really involved in the game, but football is fast moving game and his instance that we only lacked goals because of having only one striker is petrifying!
What about highlighting the lack of wide men or service??
I also don’t think he can just talk to any manager as he claims purely because he has no respect got his peers within the game and likewise is not respected
I also don’t think he can claim he’s been there and done that
And his unbelievable knack of confusing fiction for fact is just surreal

Comment #72Whichever way anyone wants to dress up this appointment of Kinnear the truth is it’s a total and unnecessary embarrassment to the club …. again.
This tenure of Mike Ashley is the worst thing to happen to Newcastle United in it’s illustrious history (and let’s face it we’ve had one or two bad blips)..
Yes we may have done things wrong in the past but the club has always been highly regarded in football. Now we are just the butt of jokes from fans, players and media across the country.
Thanks for that Mike – you are a bloody disgrace.
Why don’t you just go and sling your hook and make the whole North East a better place to live in.

Comment #75Blofal has it right. Surely these ramblings are the outpourings of a sick man ? Slurring speech, mispronounced words and names, memory loss and wild statements are allegedly signs of a not healthy person ? One golden rule in business is not to knock the opposition just prove that you are better than they are, yet all and sundry including the fans are been knocked by JK- yet we are on the same side ! Such a senior appointment should be announced by the CEO, MD or at least the PR Office yet we have none of these, only second hand ramblings via some dubious press articles and interviews. Pardew is meant to be back in toon after his holidays so why have the Press or TV not interviewed him ? If it’s such a big story for the media are they incapable of doing their job properly or have they like JK been in the sun too long. If JK has health problems then family and friends and yes even the club should be helping him in the same way as Gazza and other so called celebs seem to be supported or at least lets hope his family Doctor is checking him over. It health is not a problem then we are all part oft he problem. Silence is golden so the fact that the club have not reacted in anyway nor made any official statement would suggest that they are keeping a low profile while trying to help resolve the position ( whatever it might be ) for all concerned. Sports Direct as a listed Company don’t want any bad vibes to rock their stock market position so if MA is seen as not being in control of this matter then that can only reflect badly in investors minds. Hope springs eternal. Leadership is strength, chaos is unforgiving.

I hope they where taking the p**s, the mans a total joke. Yohan Kebab, Papiss Sissy, you’ve gotta f******g kidding me, f**k off back to dublin you bumbling prat. I’m not sure whether Mike ashley has even the slightest clue on how a football club should be run from year to year or whether he’s just so greedy he’d rather force pardew and llambias out rather pay up. I’ve been a supporter as long as i can remember but the state of NUFC and the general direction club football is heading in is making think it’s pointless 🙁
