We saw there was rumors that Andy Carroll could still possibly sign for Newcastle, but there is just no way Mike Ashley would pay £15M for Andy Carroll.
Andy Carroll – signs for West Ham
As soon as West Ham agreed a fee of £15M for the striker, Newcastle were out of the picture, unless Andy reneged on the deal – which he didn’t.
Andy’s very good in the box and a great header of the ball, but he doesn’t score many goals and seems to pick up quite a few injuries in a season, but West Ham have just signed him, and it seems an extremely expensive deal for West Ham – although the fans are probably happy enough.
West Ham were willing to give Liverpool £15M for the striker, and will pay the Gateshead lad £100K/week for six years – and that’s a package worth £46M over the six years of the contract, and that should test the Hammers’ financial position in a year or two.
We’ll not call the deal suicidal, it’s a trophy signing, and it reminds us a little bit of the deal Newcastle made to get Michael Owen to Tyneside in 2005, although maybe big Andy is not as injury prone as Michael was.
Andy signing the deal is no surprise, and it’s interesting that no other club came in for the former Newcastle striker.
But we wish Andy the very best at West Ham, and it would have been great if the Magpies could have signed him and brought him back home, and maybe we could have managed it, if the fee and the wages were cut in half.

Comment #43On a lighter note my favourite NUFC images on twitter this week. The first only works if you say it out loud http://t.co/y918GR4GOJ . The second explains why Big Al Is to busy doing this to help #nufc out http://t.co/rZM9q7CAw8 .

Comment #44Phew ! Thank god for stupid West Ham. I can think of better players than Carroll in a £46m package. God help the Hammers if they get relegated with that amount of albatross around their neck. Now how about trying for just a couple of top quality players like Lukaku and Ba and balance the books by losing less capable squad players. Get some in !!

Comment #47well I think is says a lot for the current situation at this club when someone of Dekka’s ilk has too much pride and integrity to be associated with it (other than of course as a fan)

The deal is completely ridiculous, the fanbase must be a little miffed. 46 Million to a club that has just been promoted? They could of did alot more with their money.
How many gems could our scouting network find with 46 million with their wages included in that?
It’s a serious gamble in my opinion.
Wow, the mirror is reporting Llambias left because he was shot down by Kinnear over the Douglas deal.
This is still really bizaare this situation.
Is anyboady actually talking to each other up there at the moment..

Comment #49I’d advise everyone to not take any notice of the absolute crock of sh*** i’ve just read in the mirror saying that llambias quit because he couldn’t work under kinnear and was forced to pull the plug on Douglas.
Douglas is incredibly poor and the article is just a blatant attempt to stir sh** up.

Comment #50It makes more sense to me that Llambias told Ashley he was going to step down and resign a couple of week back, which then prompted Ashley to get a Director of Football in

Comment #52Errrr, Is this an NUFC blog or an Andy Carroll fan club site?
He isn’t a NUFC player; he isn’t likely to become an NUFC player. He once was our player, but that’s history, NOT news.
Hopefully ED, this is the last post on this NON nufc subject!!

Comment #54Ed can you please do an article telling people not to take papers and media sources as truth because some of the things people will believe are astounding. We all appreciate a good rumour but we can’t allow damaging stories to get around the fans and become common belief.
We won’t know anything until it’s done with the way NUFC works these days.

Comment #56I see the easy refuge for the most recent radical converts is to backtrack when the wind changes, into hoping for the best and actually trying to rationalise and explain to themselves in a very public way, why JFK’s resurrection might be a good thing and even contemplate it as part of a plan!
As I’m a proven ITK I can reveal that the head of media – the honourable Ms Wendy Taylor – and the fans liaison officer – Mr Lee Marshall – had absolutely no idea what was going on at the weekend at Ashley Towers.
The club is an absolute shambles and if you think JFK and Patsy can work together for any length of time, you are so far off the mark it’s frightening.
The club tried desperately to get Patsy on board for 48hrs and he refused and was on the brink of resignation – but like many on here, lacked any backbone to face up to the situation and do something about it.
Thankfully, a fair few of the most active/passive contributors on here are actually in exile and are so out of touch with real feelings and events.

Comment #68The Mirror are just rubbish at arithemetic . One and one make eight…. Llambezee was already toast before JFK opened his mouth.
I’m sure AP considered his position but his survival instincts took over.
The roller coaster that is the Toon will be VERY interesting the next few weeks..

Comment #69I’m not sure to what degree we’re in trouble, although we’re definitely in it. But Kinnear, Pardew, Stone, Beardsley, Carver etal wouldn’t get near any of the senior clubs, not a cinder in snows chance, and that’s our football acumen right there.
