Is it just us, or is Joe Kinnear being brought in to “help” Alan Pardew with the coaching side of things at Newcastle, because if that’s the case, this arrangement will likely not work.
Alan Pardew – put into a difficult situation
The usual job of a Director of Football is to be in charge of transfers both into and out of the club, and Joe has already talked about doing that job in collusion and in cooperation with Alan Pardew and Chief Scout Graham Carr, whom Joe has known for 20 years
So that’s what a Director of Football usually does, and the coach or manager is responsible for taking those players and getting the best out of them on the field, and working with them on the training field.
But it looks like Joe thinks he is going to impinge on the coaching side of things as well.
It certainly seems that way from what Joe has said, and as well as having an office at the Benton Training ground, he will also be on the training field to help find what has gone wrong on the football side of things.
This is what Joe said in the Daily Mirror today:
“We have the financial side right, now let’s get the football side right. Newcastle should be rubbing shoulders with the top teams.”
“They are pointing the finger at the injuries. Then there is the Europa League. I will be at the training ground to help find what has gone wrong.”
“Let’s hope Newcastle never find themselves in this position again. To go from fifth to 16th is a big slide. The team struggled last year.”
It would be hard for any manager to work in this type of situation, because if you are being judged on the performance of the team, which Pardew is – that’s how he gets his bonuses, you just have to be given full responsibility of the tactics during the game, and the coaching on the training field in preparation for the games.
We hope we are wrong on this, because it seems that if Joe is really going to do what he’s talking about – this partnership with Alan Pardew will simply not work.
Are we missing something here?

Comment #42Are people feeling a little bit more protective and supportive over Pardew now? Or is it just me.?
Could this have been Ashley’s plan?

so you are making things up and here you are calling Kinnear a liar. I don’t blame him for being pissed off, some people may react differently and stay quiet like Ashley, some will react like Kinnear when people making things up about them.

Comment #44It has been loads of people saying that as a positive for Kinnear.
I’m not quite sure what you’re wanting me to reply as the question’s a bit unrelated, so yes, I think he is mistaken in that Kinnear has made false statements.
It’s just a very obvious thing to be irritated by- you can’t be “telling it like it is” when you’re not speaking the truth!!
He’s literally been “telling it like it isn’t”!

Comment #45@Santon – I said he is either a liar or mistaken!!
Are you saying that everything he has said in interviews is true? Because that is factually untrue!
My only gripe was that you cannot “tell it like it is” if you are not speaking the truth- whether deviously or by mistake!
I don’t quite understand your problem with that?

which fact? because I don’t know Kinnear personally and I never met him.
about incorrect names, is it because of “insomnia”? I think he called him that on purpose and I think he knows his actual name is Nzogbia.
Just try see things differently.

Comment #47That he won manager of the year 3 times.
That he was at Newcastle for 2 years.
That Llambias was director of football.
That he’s never been sacked.
That he signed Krul.
That we were 12th when he left.
That he managed Perch at Newcastle.
That he played over 400 games for Spurs.
That his swearing press conference was after a win at Spurs- it wasn’t.
I’ve never met him either, I’m only saying this because of what he’s said in these interviews so far.
I don’t think it’s especially devious, just trying to make himself seem more impressive than he is.

No of course not just “Insomnia” – which I disagree he actually knew his name. But All these others: Amamobi, Ben Afri, Yohan Kebab, Goaltierrez, Lambeezy.
You speak as if you’ve not heard these
interviews?
It’s embarrassing!

Comment #49“Blundering Kinnear has made a staggering 30 cock-ups since being made the most powerful football figure at St James’ Park – as opposition and bemusement at his appointment grows.
While Kinnear made grand claims of being able to pick up a phone and call any major figure in world football, his jump-the-gun announcement on Sunday and scattergun radio outburst late on Monday night proved he was unable to master even the most basic of details about Newcastle, his own career, or historic events.
Whether it was basic pronunciation of players names, exaggerating his playing and managerial career, or claiming to have bought and sold players that had nothing to do with him, Kinnear got his facts wrong numerous times in a series of interviews.”

Comment #51This has got to be clearly a way to get rid of Pards without having to pay him off….. surely….. i mean if pards does leave, then we could maybe get Pearce, which i honestly dont think would be a back choice given our options!

Comment #53Lets get ready to RUMBLE.
According to BBC radio, papers will be full of Pardew being “ready to fight back” this morning even though I cannot find any stories or quotes infact the opposite seems to be true. The fact Pardew hasn’t reacted leads some papers to believe he’s preparing a legal defence.
It will be interesting to hear Pardew’s view, he’s got to speak up soon?

Comment #54Definitely not ITK but have just heard that the reason we now have this farcical situation is because Mashley wanted to renegotiate AP’s contract after the mess of a season, AP said no so Mashley brought in his boozing buddy JFK to teach him a lesson….Mashley apparently has no long term interest in the club and is waiting for a decent offer. Also it seems that Lambarse and Mashley are not on speaking terms after Lambarse tried to resign…watch this space!

Comment #70I see the Journal is reporting that Kinnear will have no say on first team matters, training, tactics or scouting duties – he will sit in on meetings about team and transfer affairs and act as a link between the football staff and Ashley.
If this is right Kinnear’s responsibilities are 10% of what he has claimed and Pardew retains 90% of first team control.
The club need to clarify exactly what Kinnear’s responsibilities actually are because the media are having a field day on the back of JK’s claims – which I now believe are largely an exaggeration.
Although staggered by JK’s appointment I actually believe he did a better job than he was given credit for when he took over from KK. That was an even harder task than Pardew had taking over from Hughton and it easy for fans to forget how bad the whole atmosphere was at that time.
I am sure that behind the bluff and bluster Kinnear is a likeable guy and if he is told to keep his trap shut – and his responsibilities are as the Journal reports – then his impact on the first team may be far less than fans fear.
Ashley must know how badly this appointment is being received by the media and fans – largely due to Kinnear spouting off – and the club needs to clarify Kinnear’s responsibilities asap. Not to do so will be a PR mistake of the first degree.

I didn’t hear Kebab or Ben Afri, I do hear Lambisi and Gultierez.
3 manager of the year probably during his time in asia, lower league, and premier league which still counts.

Comment #80According to wiki ( I know) JFK’s win% at SJP was only 22.2% from 18 games played? Doesn’t seem right, thought it was 20 games?
His best win% was recorded at Luton of nearly 46% from 122 games. I’m ignoring the 11 games he managed Nepal.
