Kinnear Pulls Newcastle Out Of Deal For Top Defender

One of the good things about Joe Kinnear’s appointment as Director of Football, is that we may see Newcastle moving more aggressively in the transfer market, and making some decisions about who to bring in, and who not to bring into the club this summer.

douglas

Douglas – deal for defender was in place

Joe will also need to decide which players are surplus to requirements, and it seems he has already decided some current players are not good enough for “a massive club like Newcastle.”

Sky Sports is reporting that a deal was (almost) in place to bring  Douglas to Newcastle on a free transfer, after his contract at Dutch side FC Twente expires at the end of the month.

If this news is true then we have to assume Kinnear has some other central defender in mind, who he thinks could be better deals for Newcastle.

But it’s hard to think that the 6’4″ Brazilian defender would not have been a decent acquisition at Newcastle, given he was a free agent.

Let’s hope Joe is not going to continue to upset the apple cart too much at Newcastle, although this is his new job, and we suppose if he thinks a player is not good enough – so be it – he now makes those decisions on transfers.

But hey, we’ll be happy enough if we get three good players through the door this summer, but now that Kinnear is on board,  there may be more players coming  in.

That’s because we are almost certain Joe will be moving more players out of the club before September rolls around.

What do you think?

Is this just a case of JFK wading in with his size 15’s trying to show Pards/Carr who’s boss?!

At least Colo is staying so that puts slightly less pressure on us to find a new CB. Still need good cover though in my opinion.

I just fear for our club this season. Pity Ashley didn`t sound out someone like Glenn Hoddle as a Director of football rather than a muppet like Kinnear.
Ashley = NO AMBITION and little understanding of his own club ( history, supporters, community etc )

I’m sure this was a case of Douglas wanting guaranteed 1st team football (rumour?). So that’s ahead of Colo, saylor, mym and Willo? I think not. Plus where’s all the interest in Douglas if he is that good? I can see us bringing in another cb aged 20-23 as a bench/odd starter.

Already have 3 first choice CB’s in Colo, Yanga and Taylor. With Douglas wanting guaranteed 1st team football think this was a miss when Colo announced he was staying.
Probably bring in a youngish CB to replace Willo with lower wages to free up some of the wage bill for some of our bigger targets.

Also where’s this club that were “bigger than Newcastle” who were after him?

I think this is a case of kinnear showing intent to get tthings done. None of this “over the line” nonce sense. Just get the deal or move on

Douglas is not a top defender.

He is no better than Williamson who is fourth in the pecking order, and appears happy to play second (or fourth) fiddle to Colo, Saylor and Mbiwa.

Perhaps Curtis Good needs a chance, albeit alongside an experienced back three in a minor game.

    Good decision.

    Long post alert.

I have my own views on things but my mate has been convinced this is all for the greater good. His name is Stephen Finn and apparently his uncle works within the club as a manager of the in ground Customer Service team.

Apparently Ashley decided Llambias and Pardew were too close and after the meeting he gave Alan one more chance and offered Llambias resignation or the sack. Llambias chose to fall on his sword and would resign as soon as the formalities of finding a new MD had taken place.

Mike Ashley loves Joe Kinnear and apparently Kinnear is flat broke and when this opportunity presented itself Ashley decided to spilt the MD role in 2. Football and Financial.

Kinnear will deal with all footballing related issues whilst the new person will continue the corporate side of things detailing to sponsorship, merchandise and other things of that fashion.

Joe will report back to Mike about team morale, both playing staff and management, will offer advice and will actively be involved in transfers by trying to find the middle ground between the managers wishes and the recommendations of the head scout.

Kinnear will also talk in the press regarding footballing matters relating to Ashley’s views and desires but will not act as a voice for the team, players or management.

Basically he is there to offer his knowledge and experience to all at the club and has been told not to step on Alan’s toes.

The new director of finances will look to bring in better deals than Llambias and will be tasked with finding exciting opportunities that offer both respectability and better financial implications. They will also be tasked with finding income for future transfers.

Ashley himself will take control of negotiations once the management team have decided which player(s) to go for.

Mike was seemingly furious with last season and the way all his hard work to get the Geordies back onside had been demolished by Alan Pardew, Derek Llambias and others within the club advising him on footballing matters. He decided that whilst the stock is already low he would ring the changes now and suffer the consequences. He truly believes Kinnears passion, experience and attitude can be used for the good of the club and that he will help motivate Alan Pardew (who by all accounts is miserable after last season) the coaches and the players.

Finally the club will actively look to get rid of the dead weight after Kinnear has talked to Pardew and Carr before signing some real quality. Apparently Carr is massively respected by Ashley and Graham doesn’t share the same view as Pardew relating to some of the first team players (Ameobi, Obertan, Steven Taylor and Gutierrez).

In conclusion Kinnear will be the advisor to Ashley and also the mediator between Alan and Graham. Llambias apparently sided too much with Pardew over certain issues within the club and Mike wants a more balanced view. It was said to have been Derek’s fault we didn’t sign players last Summer and his fault we missed out on Remy in Jan. When Mike got involved we signed 5 players and we will start next week on finding new players once Kinnear has listened to Alan and Graham and relayed his own thoughts to Mike.

Sorry for the long post and I think it’s all bull shit anyway

    Krul
    Obertan

I simply don’t see what all the fuss is about with Douglas. He’s a decent defender but nothing special and certainly not better than anything we already have at the club. Yes we need bodies through the door but they have to be better than what we already have to improve us and not just an extra option to select from

Nothing yet. I never post what he tells me as I think he is full of crap but I thought his view was quite an interesting one.

He is 100% confident this is good for the club and that Kinnear will balance the club out better than Llambias did.

He didn’t mention how Pardew was feeling about it all other than to say Alan was heartbroken over last year.

As for transfers he reckons Joe will listen to Carr and Alan and find middle ground before telling Ashley who we should go for, regardless of cost. It’s then up to Ashley to say yes or no.

Apparently we will be looking for the best deals not the cheapest, hence why Douglas will not be coming in. He was the cheapest CB on the list but so far down Carr’s recommendations that the deal was called off.

I won’t be airing anymore of his views as I think he is talking rubbish but it interested me.

I’m going back to my fury, distrust and hatred. Back to my negativity and belief that the club is in free fall and we’ll sign nobody.

Isn’t strange that no-one saw Joe Kinnear coming and Derek Llambias going.

Doesn’t say much about all those fans who profes to have this magical insider knowledge about who are targets and who is being sold. Funny that.

I seriously do not think this is BS, it all makes complete sense. If we had those 5 signings in the summer rather than January, I doubt we would have had such a bad season. It is a similar structure to Spurs, Ashley wants somebody who can advise him the right way. Why not a top SD executive to cover finance and JK footballing. It could well work!

I think the huge problem with all of this is purely the choice of man. If the role was given to a former international player in their forties, we’d be feeling positive. The fact its a compulsive liar with no respect for the club of fans. That is the whole crux of it all.

Funnily enough Beattie everything you said (or your mate said) is how i viewed the appointment of Kinnear. I won’t rant or rave about decisions within the club I just try to understand them.

Another important thing to note is that Kinnear has pointed out two area’s we have all been raving about for months if not years being a striker and a pacey winger.

All Joe knows is football pure and simple.

So no media skills rabbit in the headlights and going off on one etc.

But hes hired for footballing reasons alone.

SD sourced financial director to manage the money – no problem with that

Does this mean last minute kit/sponsorship change in the offing?

Makes perfect sense. After all, we were told that Lambazee would continue to handle player contract negotiations. Since he’s decided to jump ship presumably the club has no one best able to do that.

But I’m confident JFK will take on that role later in the week after he had a quick look at his new book Elementary Maths for Beginners.

This guy is NOT a “TOP” Defender it’s not a bad thing we have pulled out of the deal.

We have 2 quality CB in colo and yanga s taylor is adequate cover we need to focus more on a TOP quality striker.

Hernandez gets no game time at man united and would be an amazing signing for us. I know it’s probably not going to happen but we can hope!
