Legend Laments Another Sickening Newcastle Disaster

Alan Shearer has written in The Sun, and like most fans, he believes the appointment of Joe Kinnear as Newcastle’s Director of Football has again turned the club into a laughing stock. It’s hard to argue with that view.

Alan Shearer – it sickens me

Kinnear has wasted little time in making his presence felt with a series of free-ranging interviews which have hardly enhanced his reputation as he struggled to pronounce the names of some of his players, as well as managing director Derek Llambias.

Llambias subsequently resigned after learning that the 66-year-old Irishman would assume some of his duties under a surprise shake-up of the club’s football activities instigated by sportswear tycoon Ashley.

Former Newcastle striker Shearer wrote in today’s Sun:

“Where do we start? What I do know is that right now people are laughing at the football club I support. And that sickens me.” “I promised myself years ago never to be surprised by what happens in football – particularly when it comes to Newcastle.”

“But this situation really is stretching it a bit.” “While other clubs are all plotting and planning for next season, Newcastle have a manager who has just been totally undermined.”

“Alan Pardew has said he will carry on but I am sure it will be a difficult situation.” “As for that announcement, what are the players to think when he can’t even get their names right? It’s all a PR disaster.”

“Pardew’s silence on the appointment of Kinnear himself over recent days said it all.” “But what could he say?” “He is in such an intolerable position.”

“He can’t come out and slaughter his employers but at the same time he can’t agree with a situation which no manager would find comfortable.”

It just takes Joe Kinnear to get our on the training field when the players arrive back and do some coaching and that could be the end of Alana Pardew.

We just hope that for the good of the club Joe Kinnear takes a step back and sees what he’s doing to Newcastle – he’s wrecking it.

But the responsibility for all of this lies with the man who appointed him, and set this nonsense in motion, and he allowed Kinnear to embarrass himself and the club, and that’s owner Mike Ashley.

None of this nonsense would have happened if Joe hadn’t been appointed.

It’s all very sickening, as Shearer rightly points out.

    from previous thread

I never thought I would here myself saying this, but well done Derek Llambias, making a Keven Keegan type of stance against Mike Ashleys’ absurd running of the club and the manner in which he treats people makes me proud of you.
JFK, grow up you tosser, spitting your dummy out and not signing a good player who we desperately needed all because it was Derek’s work is not acceptable and could prove to be very damaging, if as it seems likely, is what happened.

All the hard work put in since we got relegated is coming undone. If carr leaves then we are fcuked. He’s the best talent relations scout we’ve ever had. Current setup was doing alright before jk came in, ok we were slow in getting targets in but when we did, they were quality. Look like its the chaos from 2008-9 season is repeating itself

… so THAT’S where my imaginary dog ran off to! 🙂

Morning all… seatbelts on just in case methinks.

    Have the aliens landed yet…?

This week has been extraordinary even by NUFC standards.

I think news of a good, quality signing would not go amiss.

This is a joke. We don’t know why Llambias resigned, we don’t know if or why we’re not after Douglas any more, we don’t know if Carr or Pardew are unhappy. There’s speculation all over the place but very few facts.

It’s a glorious cycle for the media when the circus arrives at NUFC. Wild speculation and negativity from fans leads to wildly speculative articles in the media, leads to more speculation and negativity from the fans…and so on.

I hope this mess gets cleared up soon so we know what is actually happening.

Now I love Alan shearer and he is a legend but I wish he would stfu. He makes all these situations sound far worse as he hates ash. Also he’s not the shiniest button so I avoid his opinions on anything other than in play analysis

Most people on here wanted Llambias out of the club. Now he has gone. Most people wanted football people making key decisions. This is the structure now in place.
The “experts” think Pardew has been undermined. Perhaps but something had to change. I think the issue here is the people and not the structure.
If they cannot work together why not. Why does a football manager demand total independance in the decision making process? It would not happen in any other industry.

The only aspect of our club which was consistently working well was our ability to bring in talented players at a decent price (a refusal to spend big did let then down, but they had a decent set-up) but now it looks very much as if that is getting ripped from our grasp, the only consolation is that Ashley as well as us will suffer from this disaster.

PPB… Im not shearers biggest media fan either. But in fairness this one has a fair few good points like pardews deafening silence, the fact its been a PR disaster and most importantly In my view is the fact we’re actually going backwards while most if not every other PL team is moving forward

Shearer is hit and miss in his views of things but i think he is right here.

If ashley had appointed a good director of football that would be fine.

The issue is that Pardew is being undermined by an idiot…and idiot who shouts all the plans too.

Kinnear saying he has final on incomings is one thing but on outgoings is a joke…thats the managers decision to decide the worth of a player.

Kinnear made it much worse for himself purely because of the way he has carried on, if he said he was there to work with pardew and mutually agree decsions, offer advice on signings etc then it would be much better…but even so he is totally the wrong man.

Hi guys, new to the blog, but long time reader. Sick of this farce and decided I need to join in the venting!!

What I don’t understand is the Fat Controller giving Carr an 8 year contract, presumably he can see the good work that he is doing, and sitting and watching Carr get pushed out the door also by this monster that is JK. Surely mike wont sit there and watch him leave also ???

    Regarding Carr.
Being Chief Scout, is not just about identifying players and instructing the Management to go out and buy them.
It’s about ‘long term’ scouting, getting to know a player’s mindset, their agents, whats in their contracts etc. Cisse, and Cabaye especially are great examples of this.
Often it’s the relationship with a players agent that’s just as important as the player himself. This allows Carr to get value for money, which is what MA wants.
You can’t just ‘buy’ these kind of contacts/ongoing relationships.

Also on this infamous 8 year Pardew contract. Everything i read on this blog says ‘will have to pay up this 8 year contract in full if MA sacks Pardew’ etc etc
In my professional opinion, this is actually very UNLIKELY, as there will be clauses within the contract. This is common place.
The ‘ideal’ behind giving such a contract is to promote the stability within the club to staff, players, fans, media etc.
The reason i know this, is that i have such an employment contract myself, and no, i’m not a footballer.

why do people keep thinking we sign good players? we really dont

These top french stars people think Pardew should have in the top 6/4 are part of a national side which barely even qualifies for world cups/euros and also massively underperform when there.

On top of that most of the boys we sign dont even make the squad, never mind the starting 11 of this poor French team. They may have technique but for whatever reason they struggle to do well on all aspects of the game and the main one…winning it.

there are a lot of good scouts with good contacts though…carr isn’t a 1 in a million…most scouts have decent contacts…most clubs have several of them…we dont seem to though.

Also I like Carr but he is wasted…there is only so much you can do with a small budget..sometimes you do need to spend big…dortmund do it well…spend 15-20mil on players often

This whole thing has the look of utter farce about it. The one small crumb of hope I cling onto is that Ashley has a vision of where he is taking all this. The suits in the City hate him as well because of his rather uncouth barrow boy approach to them but he is also largely in isolation bucking the trend in retail and continues to grow and make massive profits – he also lokos after his staff very well so he can’t be the total tosser we are all in clined to call him at the minute.
Respect Shearer for who he is and what he did but his approach to situations is very old school in that he always thinks the only way to fix anything is to throw bucket loads of somebody else’s money at it.
As I said yesterday the main signing we need right now is a PR guru because irrespective how good or bad things might turn out with the changes being made the media feeding frenzy around the name Newcastle United could scare off any potential quality signings.
