There were some reports earlier this week that Ben Arfa may be sold this summer, but there didn’t seem to be anything real in those reports – other than the Frenchman is one of Newcastle’s most popular players, and it made a good story for the press.
Ben Arfa – committed to Newcastle United
But it was very unlikely to be the truth and we hear today, that with only two years left on his five year contract at Newcastle, the French International is keen to get a contract extension.
The Journal is reporting that despite the goings-on of Joe Kinnear this week, Ben Arfa remains fully committed to Newcastle, and wants a new long term contract at the club.
Unfortunately the 25 year-old has been injured a lot in the three years he’s been at the club, and he’s only played 56 times with 10 goals and 11 assists – but he’s a great player with fantastic skills and the fans just love him.
And it would be good if Newcastle can iron out a new five-year deal with Ben Arfa and then announce that soon, and that will help to settle things down on Tyneside. which is what is now needed.
In Derek LLambias’s absence, after he resigned early this week, Secretary Lee Charnley and Finance Director John Irving will take up the slack, and start negotiations next week with the players’ agent.
And news that both Joe Kinnear and Alan Pardew want the mercurial winger (love that description of him) signed to a new long term deal – so that’s good news – even though reports earlier this week suggested Joe wanted to sell him.
A source close to the player had this to say to the Journal:
“Hatem doesn’t want to go to Monaco or Paris Saint Germain, he wants to play in front of a stadium full of Newcastle fans who feel the same way about him as he does about them”
That’s a great statement.
It’s been a terrible week for Joe Kinnear and Newcastle United, but we hope things can come together soon, and signing Ben Arfa in the next couple of weeks to a new long term contract at Newcastle would be just great.
