After The Negativity – Some Good (Great) News On Ben Arfa

There were some reports earlier this week that Ben Arfa may be sold this summer, but there didn’t seem to be anything real in those reports – other than the Frenchman is one of Newcastle’s most popular players, and it made a good story for the press.

ben arfa hands on hips

Ben Arfa – committed to Newcastle United

But it was very unlikely to be the truth and we hear today, that with only two years left on his five year contract at Newcastle, the French International is keen to get a contract extension.

The Journal is reporting that despite the goings-on of Joe Kinnear this week,  Ben Arfa remains fully committed to Newcastle, and wants a new long term contract at the club.

Unfortunately the 25 year-old has been injured a lot in the three years he’s been at the club, and he’s only played 56 times with 10 goals and 11 assists – but he’s a great player with fantastic skills and the fans just love him.

And it would be good if Newcastle can iron out a new five-year deal with Ben Arfa and then announce that soon, and that will help to settle things down on Tyneside. which is what is now needed.

In Derek LLambias’s absence, after he resigned early this week, Secretary Lee Charnley and Finance Director John Irving will take up the slack, and start negotiations next week with the players’ agent.

And news that both Joe Kinnear and Alan Pardew want the mercurial winger (love that description of him) signed to a new long term deal – so that’s good news – even though reports earlier this week suggested Joe wanted to sell him.

A source close to the player had this to say to the Journal:

“Hatem doesn’t want to go to Monaco or Paris Saint Germain, he wants to play in front of a stadium full of Newcastle fans who feel the same way about him as he does about them”

That’s a great statement.

It’s been a terrible week for Joe Kinnear and Newcastle United, but we hope things can come together soon, and signing Ben Arfa in the next couple of weeks to a new long term contract at Newcastle would be just great.

This is good news, he has got talent and he finally needs to step up and show it over a full season for us but mainly to prove to himself be can do it.

As for kinnear…he needs to start doing his homework. Anyone at the top of their profession whether sport, business, banking, politics etc have been used to having people know who they are, know everything about them etc…a lot of these lads will be used to having people bend over backwards to do things for them.

Before kinnear speaks he needs to make sure he gets names right, details about players etc…otherwise players will think why should I go there of he doesn’t even do his research.

It may sound a trivial matter but with these sort of people in any profession it’s not worth risking it…some wont care about his mistakes but others will.

Bent is too old, too comfortable picking up his wages and doing not a lot.

Hungry young international strikers only please.

Keeping him will be a massive boost, but keeping him fit has been almost impossible. If Kinnear is to do anything at this club then he has to sort out the injury nightmare that has dogged us for years

I’m not keen on bent…couldn’t get into a struggling villa team. So either not that good or his attitude stinks…neither is good.

If he comes in with another striker I could accept it, maybe gamble on him and see what happens. The fee is not an issue for me, I don’t care what players cost as long as we get decent ones in

I hope he will stay with us for the next two years before moving to a top club and play his best footballing years there. I really want to see him successful rather than seeing him underachieving here in this clown club. I’m still surprise that some fans are still talking about royalty especially in a club like Newcastle.

You mean like Bobby Robson used to with Sylvain “Sacha Distel” Distin, Laurent “Lauren Bacall” Robert, Shola “Carl Cort” Ameobi and the rest?

Yeh I agree. He has so much talent but something stops him producing consistently over a full season.

Even in France when he won all the titles he never had a season like hazard did over there with 20+ goals.

If it all clicks he will be a world beater but he just needs to get it right.

Yeh he needs to sort it out.

The difference is kinnear is a foul mouthed idiot with little respect in the game.

Robson was a thoroughly likeable guy, managed around the world, was a world class manage who everyone wanted to work with.

People could forgive robson much easier, it was seen as charming or a nice old man mixing things up…kinnear comes across as crass and rude.

Like I said before, it may seem trivial but some players will be offended as people with power/money often have big egos

Bent won’t win knock downs, very similar to cisse. A poacher who needs good service.

The biggest thing next year we need to do is get more players closer to the striker. Even if we play long ball we will look a million times better if there are 2/3 lads around cisse when the ball is played long.

Do not compare SBR with JFK – there is nothing between one of our best managers and a mediocre hasbeen with a big mouth.
Don’t use SBRs naming errors as a way of diminshing his contribution to the club – I bet you were one of thoses calling for his head after that Villa game.

    fog on the tyne,
Sorry but I don’t think it’s all true certainly the fee part, can’t see NUFC paying £8 million for him imo he’s not worth more than £6 and tbh he’s too similar in style to Cisse as a goal poacher anything more than 6 yards from goal he barely finds the net so in the respect worse than Cisse.

We need someone that is strong and can hold the ball up a bit longer so the midfield can come into play more to often we have seen the ball passed to Cisse and he ends up losing it trying to get further up the pitch.
Cabaye I’m expecting to want out and feel he’s wanted out for quite a few months now not sure if it’s his head or heart that needs sorting out but either way he needs to make his mind up so we can move on.
Aside from the Kinnear business I’m looking forward to the new season I think if everyone calms down and stops panicking I think we will be ok, Problem is with forums, blogs and twitter it feeds the press what people are thinking not what is REALLY going on, not saying the above are bad it’s just used wrongly by many inc the press

I think we need a player to complement Cisse and for me Bent is very similar, as a squad player then yeah it could work but think we need to either go for a Bellamy type striker (without the shitty attitude of course) or a Carrol type to hold the ball up or get the knock down’s for Cisse

As a direct replacement for Shola then I’d say yes, but as you say as long as he’s not the only striker that comes in

He is vastly overrated by most toon fans because he can beat a couple of men. He doesn’t get enough assists, goals, that is why he is happy to stay here. At a top club he would be surplus to requirements in a similar way to Nani.

He isn’t a kid any more, and at the minute all his talent is getting wasted.

    Exactly.

When I watch Ben arts I compare his style and ease of going past people to zidane.

The issue is after that he never gets goals or assists to match the talent he has. It’s not just with us either, it’s during his time in France. He was in a lot of successful teams and contributed but he never contributed anywhere near what he should for the natural talent the lad has.

Bent is not what we need. Certainly not at 8 million on a four year deal. I thought we learnt our lesson with players like Smith.

If we got him cheap (3/4mill) on a 1 or 2 year deal with an option of an automatic extra year if he scored x amount of goals then fair enough.

He is too similar to Cisse, they couldn’t play together, and it wouldn’t allow us to change style having one or the other on the bench.

Marveaux made 46 apps last season *okay a fair few from the bench.

But he only scored 2 goals and made 9 assists.

Lots of our player’s qualities are overrated.

Does Marveaux contribute enough to keep him?
What about Colo, Tiote, Jonas, HBA do they give value for the money they earn?

I think HBA is rated so highly by most NUFC fans as he’s the only player we have that will pick the ball up and drive at the opposition, along with Marv they are the only two players we have that actually can beat a man. So many of our players dither on the ball, But yes he is over rated imo,

but that has a lot to do with the fact that we see flashes of what he can do but his career hasn’t really started here because he’s had one injury nightmare after another
