We had heard that 66 year old Joe Kinnear was regretful for the criticism he gave Newcastle fans in his notorious talkSPORT interview on Monday night, and today he has come out and been interviewed again in the Sunday Times, and he has apologized to Newcastle fans.
Joe Kinnear – apologizes to Newcastle Fans
Joe’s interview set the alarm bells ringing even louder with Newcastle fans, as he mispronounced the names of several of Newcastle’s top players, and then when asked about why the supporters didn’t like him – he said he had more intelligence than the Geordie fans.
Huge mistake.
This is what he told the Sunday Times today:
“I regret what I said about the supporters.” “I can’t get anybody to say that Joe has the utmost respect for the supporters and they are the most important people at the club.” “I always go to their forums and loved having the craic with them around the city when I was manager there.”
“There are 10 per cent I’m never going to win over, that is the point I was trying to make, but I regret what I said and if I offended any Newcastle fans I apologise.”
It’s good that Joe’s apologized, but we don’t see other Directors of Football being interviewed in the press all the time – and unless Joe can tale a back seat at Newcastle in his role as a Newcastle executive – it will never work.
His new job is not like the Newcastle manager job he had – so is Mike Ashley going to somehow get Joe under control?
We thought Mike Ashley may have stopped Joe from giving any more interviews after the talkSPORT debacle – but we suppose we were wrong on that one.
Joe has far too much ego to take a back seat at Newcastle, and that’s one of the problems in his new job.

I assume that means he will be returning from his holiday to attend tomorrow night then….. No chance. He would struggle to make it out alive if he did.

I did say last week that all these events and conspiracy theories ongoing at NUFC reminded me very much of life in Germany in the 1920s-30s.

Pedro was polar opposite? Pedro was disciplined by the club after bullying some of the youngsters at the club, 2 of them left because of it…

You’re better off wishing to win the lottery because that is more likely than wishing for Ashley to speak out.

Poyet is in bother as he effectively said they had plateaued and he would have to consider staying at the club if the club didn’t show they wanted more ambition.

Comment #35I think the real issue regarding the Shearer comment was ‘Damien is one of the best left wingers in the business’ or words to that effect. Now that is truly scary talk, Duff has been mediocre for 6 years getting progressively worse. If that’s the sort of mindset we can expect with Kinnear regarding transfers then we’re completely and utterly fcuked.

Comment #39All in all, Poyet is unpopular with players, with fans, had a large budget during his time there, defended Suarez in his racism issue, saying that England should change to suit Luis Suarez, and defended him again when he bit Ivanovic. Then there is the Wise issue.
Not for me.
