It looked like England were going to get off to a win against Iraq in their first game in Group E of the U20 World Cup taking place in Turkey on Sunday night.
Gael Bigirimana – came on after 89 minutes
And England were two goals up from Conor Coady in the 41st and then Luke Williams made it two after 52 minutes, before Iraq came back with two goals in the last 17 minutes, and their equalizer came three minutes into added time, to embarrass England.
This was another young England set-back after the debacle in Israel earlier this month wehn we were beaten 1-0, and that cost the England U21 manager Stuart Pearce his job.
Newcastle’s Gael Bigirimana just made it into the game on Sunday night, when he came on as a sub on 89 minutes.
In the other group E game, Chile beat Egypt 2-1 to go top of the group, and England’s next game is against Chile on Wednesday night – and England need a win.
Maybe Gael will start that game?
Teams:
England U20: Johnstone, Lascelles, Potts, Flanagan, Dier, Coady, Ward-Prowse, Lundstram (Reach 69), Barkley (Bigirimana 89), Kane, Williams (Long 69).
Subs not used: George Long, Cole, Stones, Thorpe, Pritchard, Garbutt, Ripley.
Iraq U20: Hameed, Dhurgham Ismail (Abdul-Hussein 69), Nadhim, Jabbar Arebat, Adnan, Natiq (Kamil 66), Fayez, Salman, Jawad Kadhim Shukor 84), Tareq, Abdulraheem.
Subs not used: Ajail, Jumaah, Jabbar Shwkan, Qasim, Ihab Kadhim, Hozan Ismael, Yaseen

I have already said there were a handful of games in the 5th place season that we played very well and fully deserved the win, the rest were solid defensive performances and winning by the odd goal, luckily at times. As for stunning ? , I don’t know how anyone can say that.
@ Sarf
This is a blog at the end of the day and people will always give their view on a player or manager reguardless if they are likeley to leave or not.
There were legitimate doubts over Pardews future towards and at the end of last season, rightly so IMO. I’m not being rude but stick to NUFC.co.uk if you want cold hard facts. I just want the best fir my club and I don’t see Pardew as the future.

Comment #45Sean, Carver said it himself on Radio Newcastle about training routines.
We played a few good games when finishing 5th, and so we should with the calibre of players we have.
But in most we were disjointed and still tried to defend leads by the equivalent of curling up in a ball to defend yourself. Simpson’s 7 or whatever off the line showed how often the park the bus after going a goal up was in use.
Thankfully we nicked points by doing it, but it isn’t sustainable over a few seasons. If you’re defending like that, you’re not attacking either. If you are attacking, you are in fact defending.
He persisted with a front 2 which didn’t compliment each other and ditched the dreamy 433 even after our best performances of the season.

Comment #48I only mention Cabaye & Ben Arfa because they are the obvious choices. We have had a better starting 11 to field than anyone outside the top 7 reguardless of injurys, yet Pardew had us in a relegation dog fight. You can’t defend the un-defendable

and who was at fault for this season you? me? no there is only 1 person picking the team and tactics, the man has no clue, would take poyet in a heartbeat brighton outplayed us by miles when we met them both times… pardew is a long ball merchant simple

I’m interested in hearing opinions from other fans on the direction of our club. But I also want to see fans getting behind the team and the club. Why can’t people jus get behind Pardew and give him a chance? If he fails and we’re looking like bottom half come December then he’ll be gone, I’d bet on that. But if we’re riding high, everyone wins right?

Make some good points, I’m not saying pardew is perfect or doesn’t make mistakes because I much like most have been baffled by some of the decisions, but there were a lot of factors in last season’s failures not just pardew, for instance did you know that we only lost two games last season when all our first choice defence was available?

Comment #55Alan Pardew win rate with Newcastle = 35%
Gus Poyet win rate with Brighton = 45%
Poyet has consistantly met targets where as Pardew has reached the top and then got back to rock bottom within a season.
People who think we will be better off with Pardew just have a think to our last 3 home games of the season…..
Now tell me again that Poyet wouldnt be an upgrade on Pardew…..

Comment #56if Newcastle wants stability poyet is the way to go, what he did with Brighton in there league and against us ( twice ) just shows he knows his football in this day of age instead of AP were his tactics are stuck in the 80’s.
AP hoofball, defend
GP attacking, fluid

Comment #60pappa so playing a team with better players on paper regardless of form against a team with lesser players on paper guarentees a win?
i’m goin down the bookies when the season starts to make a million then 🙂
we had the most injuries fact
we used the most players fact
we had and (had to) play 7 of them reguarly
thats alot of headaches for a manager
do we know if poyet could deal with that ofcourse not but i would bet that not many other managers would either

Comment #62if you watch the Brighton games and the way Gus uses his tactics it’s similar to Jose Murinho ( spelling ) at Real Madrid same style along the wings with a very attacking mentality with 2 central midfielders chasing the ball and winning it

I never wanted Pardew here originally but was pleased with our 5th place finish, despite not playing well.
Last season took the biscuit though. I will never forgive him for the embarrassing (and record breaking) defeats and God awful football. I wish I could get behind him, but I just see him makong excuses week after week and nothing changing.
I still support the team 100% but don’t trust Pardew anymore and that is just the way it is unfortunateley. On that note I am off to bed. Night chaps, its been emotional 🙂 .
Big Pappa out 😉

Comment #68We lost games we should have won because of Pardew fact. The man doesn’t have a clue even with Anita and Marv available he chose to play Perch and Gutierrez instead.
He had players available but chose to do it his way and was proven to be way out of his depth.
His mis management of a box to box midfielder in Anita was criminal.

It seems that way.
Get over what Pardew did last season, its in the past!
Hes a poor manager and he is lucky to have been given a chance at newcastle in the first place.
Im not even even the type of person whos quick for getting on managers backs and want them gone but Pardew is the first and i have an endless list of reasons for why.

Comment #77honestly it 1 thing after another with the toon at the minute. just look at villa they have signed 4 players already and we are arguing over a director of football. its terrible and as shearer said embarrassing. yeah ashley has said he will give money 4 ST but what about the rest of the weaknessess like depth in defence or another left winger cas gutterez is awful. but he thinks 1 ST is enough honestly all of them neee to give there heads a shake
