Birmingham City manager Lee Clark has revealed there have been two offers from Premier League clubs for Nathan Redmond that have been accepted, and we wonder if one of them is from Newcastle United – we hope one of them is from Newcastle United.
19 year-old Nathan Redmond – two offers accepted
And another offer has been made which didn’t reach the fee Birmingham are demanding.
Swansea City, Norwich City and Fulham are reported to be the clubs who have expressed an interest in the player, but depending on the fee, Nathan is the type of player Newcastle are after this summer, and he’s young and he’s English , and he has experience playing in the English leagues.
The England U21 team did not exactly impress in European U21 tournament this summer, but this 19-year-old did and he played well, which is one reason a number of Premier League clubs are interested in the player.
This is what Lee Clark said in the Birmingham Mail today:
“The truth, me being transparent and not speaking out of line, is that there are six to eight Premier League clubs interested in Nathan. That’s in various different ways.”
“Sometimes you get a call from an agent, then get a call from the player’s agent, sometimes you get an enquiry from a fellow manager.” “The truth, me being transparent and not speaking out of line, is that there are six to eight Premier League clubs interested in Nathan.”
“Now what we have had are three bids, two that have been accepted and one that hasn’t been accepted. And now it’s up to Nathan if he wants to speak to those two clubs and see if it’s right for him.”
“What those other clubs have to do who haven’t put bids in yet is get to the level where the other two are at.” “It’s another one where you don’t want to lose the player, but you understand the reasons why he has to go.”
“Unfortunately that’s where we are at the moment and we have just got to get on with it.” “I have spoken to Nathan at length. In an ideal world he would be with me this season – so would Curtis Davies.”
“But we know that isn’t the scenario. We have to get the best deal to keep Birmingham City going.” “Listen, the bottom line is that the most important people in all of this are the fans.”
“We have got to make sure the club is still there for them. And whatever you have got to do to make that happen, you have got to do it.”
With Lee having played and coached at Newcastle, we wouldn’t be surprised if he has let Newcastle know of Nathan’s availability, but whether the player is a good buy or not will depend on the fee, but this lad could be an alternative to 21 year-old Tom Ince from Blackpool – and may be a cheaper option.
Nathan has been at his local club since he was eight years old, and in August 2010, he became the club’s second-youngest player ever to play in the first team at the age of 16 years and 173 days (approximately).
That was just 34 days older than the great Trevor Francis was on his debut – and Trevor became a great player playing for all of Brian Clough’s sides.
Nathan has played 82 times with 9 goals and has represented England at all Youth levels, including three appearances for the England U21 side.
This lad’s the type of player we should be interested in, so we hope Newcastle make an attempt to sign him – and soon.

Comment #1As much as I don’t like Kinnear at the minute, you cannot help but be slightly drawn in by his passion to ‘show what he can do’.
If that means a big clear out of the likes of Shola, Williamson, Gosling, Perch and so on – the players so often attributed to costing us points / games – then I welcome JK.
AP for me, lacks the balls to get rid of some players, exhibit A) Jonas.
JK, no doubt, will and if he brings players in of the right calibre, JK, might, just might, prove to be a very shrewd signing by MA…
Time will tell, and lets just see what happens this transfer window.
There is 2 months for JK, AP and importantly, MA, to show us that they were right ad we’re all (mostly) wrong.
Bony as a signing in, for example, will be a MASSIVE step in the right direction…Bent, won’t be.
Jonas being shipped out will also be positive, while Cabaye going, won’t…

Comment #3No doubt ours is the one that hasn’t been accepted. We probably offered 450,000 and a pack of haribo.

Comment #4Okay, every other media source has it as Swansea and Norwich have had bids accepted. Other then bloggers, there has been virtually no expression of interest in this lad by the club, rightly or wrongly…

Comment #6Not bad being 19 years old and played 82 times, this is the type of young player we should be going for.
Would obviously take ince first though.

Comment #12one Tony Green… Yeah i know, i said that with a huge dose of bitterness and sarcasm. Like lilong said theres been absolutely nothing to link us with him apart from people on here saying he’d be a good signing. A swap bid is a good shout, though i doubt our management structure has that level of ingenuity.

Comment #14According to the Guardian, it’s Norwich and Swansea who’ve had bids of £3m accepted.
Now there’s ambition, where’s ours?
