Newcastle Bid £12M For French International Striker

The Daily Mail is reporting that Newcastle are making a £12M move for 27 year-old French International striker Andre-Pierre Gignac.

Toulouse's forward Andre-Pierre Gignac c

Andre-Pierre Gignac – 27 year-old Marseilles striker

The Frenchmen plays for Marseilles, and he has played 16 times with four goals for France, and he has been described as an English style center-forward but he doesn’t seem to score many goals.

And some have  said he plays like Alan Shearer, but he doesn’t seem to score the number of goals that Alan scored, and since joining Marseilles from Toulouse in 2010, he has scored 32 goals in 101 appearances for Marseilles.

While at Toulouse for four seasons, before joining Marseilles,  he scored 28 goals in 116 appearances.

The France international has been a sometime target of Everton and Fulham, and apparently he has been scouted for some time by Newcastle Chief Scout Graham Carr.

It seems that things are heating up now at Newcastle especially for strikers, and we’ve been liked with Wilfried Bony,  St Etienne striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Aston Villa striker Darren Bent ion the last week.

It’s hard to know whether this news is true, but Newcastle need at least two good strikers brought in this summer, and it would be good to get the first one through the door as soon as possible.

So that 12m for Bony 12 for PEA and now another 12 for this lad if the press are to believed.

As a joke it’s not even funny as we’ll end up with Carlton Cole 😉

We need a goal scoring winger in the Ben Arfa type mold.

Id say we also need another creative mid in the Cabaye mold.

Oh and a new manager and we are a top 6 team for sure.

Not sure Haidara is good enough at left back yet and Santon would probably be better on the right. Midfield would be terrible due to Tiote and Sissoko being two rather bad passers of the ball.

Knock Cabaye back for Tiote and put Marveux CAM, Gouffran LAM/LW and Santon LB. That’s my opinion anyway.

Hes alright, never going to be a world beater.

Hes abit of a lump, got talent though. PEA or Bony got bags more potential though.

Santon has pace dribbles the ball well a nd cuts in on his right foot hes LW all day long.

Cabaye needs to be pushed up to assist cisse.

Haidara is strong and is a proper LB with a left foot.

I agree on Sissoko and Tiote about their passing though.

Sissoko was pushed up too highand was given too much responsibility, that isnt is preffered position i think he would play a lot better in a deeper role where he could venture foward and help attacks if need be.

I think Tiote is a good player just didnt go that well last season and i think he could prove himself next season and show why we bought him in the first place.

Id have Anita in there straight away if either of them underperformed though, which is something Pardew never did meaning a mistake was somethng they could both do as they new they wouldnt be replace.

Pardews the problem at the end of the day.

Ed, obviously a typo in there, that should read: ‘….he has been described as an English style centre-forward BECAUSE he doesn’t seem to score many goals.’

Either way is good mate depends whether you want crosses or cutting in.

They can do both but i would argue they are better at the latter.

Why do people right of strikers before they get a chance to prove themselves in the prem Andre-Pierre Gignac is 27 not to old and right in his prime strikers peak in there late 20’s so if he does join after scoring the most goals in a season for OM he will be on a high and he is very strong in the air so might work well with cisse and he is french have faith in Carr .

Id be more worried about the right side with Benarfa covering for Debuchy who likes to get forward.

Santons a much better option than Jonas because he creates chances with his quality runs and passes, has spent last few years left back so can defend and cover Haidara and is pretty quick.

Haidara is a quality defender from what iv seen.

Wasn’t Santon playing right mid when he scored? Can’t remember who we played but he was really good there.

In my opinion Marveaux is better suited to Cisse and the CAM role, as not only can he shoot and pass but he can dribble as well, something which Cabaye can’t do.

It would be a good team, just unsure of Sissoko and Tiote. I suppose if Tiote just immediately give the ball to Sissoko for him to dribble up the field it would work.

    Personally i like the 433 4231 with LB/RW being a left footed player (Haidara&Benarfa)

And RB/LW being a right footed player (Debuchy&Santon)

The defenders can do the overlapping on the winger and get the crosses in while the wingers can take on players and cut in on their favoured foot.

This setup i could see working very well but i doubt its even crossed Pardews simple brain.

Surely our whole problem last season was that cabaye can’t play further forward and that left a massive gap, causing cisse to snap at any chance he got? He is a deep playmaker and needs someone on front of him to play with. He needs to sit next to sissoko (ala Garcia and toure), and play in a front 4 from deep with sissoko playing the box to box role.

Just read through the comments on the previous thread, got a little hairy here tonight 😛

    As Mitch Hedberg said

“You know when it comes to racism, people say: ” I don’t care if they’re black, white, purple or green”… Ooh hold on now: Purple or Green? You gotta draw the line somewhere! To hell with purple people! – Unless they’re suffocating – then help’em.”

    Purple people out! 😀

I can tell you now, Gignac hasn’t played for France in 3 years, he isn’t worth anywhere near £12 million. Bony however is and a lot more. I don’t mind us buying French players but that much for an average player at best in Ligue 1 is an absolute joke. It is these kind of signings that will cement us in the bottom 10 of the league. Grow some cojones NUFC and buy someone with talent. Gignac won’t last 5 mins in the Premier League, will almost certainly not have any resale value (to fit the transfer policy) and it’s an absolute insult he has been likened to Alan Shearer. I hope for all our sakes this is pure nonsense churned out by some journalist needing inches to fill.

Smoke-Screen? Ther is absolutely no word here in the Dutch Press about a prospective 12Mil bid by us for Boney?

Looks like Darren Bent and Carlton Cole then !

Don,t think anyone knows whats happening? Probably Nowt?

Not too sure about Gignac. Never really performed at international level with a goal every 4 games (4 in 16).

Here’s his goals-per-game ratio for last 5 seasons:

    2012-13 – 0.46
    2011-12 – 0.05 (!)
    2010-11 – 0.26
    2009-10 – 0.26
    2008-09 – 0.63 (v.good)

So he looks a bit hit and miss on the goalscoring front but did have a good season in the year just gone. However, when you consider that he has provided exactly 0 assists in the last two seasons it’s hard to see what he’s going to actually add to the team if we keep Cissé.

In my opinion we should be looking more for a second striker to drop off cisse and into the hole. Someone who is equally adept up front or in the attacking midfield position if we play 4-2-3-1. Siem De Jong sounds perfect for that.

Gignac is not the most prolific but i can see why he would actually be a good buy for us….we need more beef up front. We are shit at set pieces too.
this is a big man that can hold up, good technically….Joey barton calls him “the big man”. he scored 16 goals i believe in a marseille team that finished 2nd in the league. This season marseille never created much and won a lot of games 1-0 or 2-1 playing crap. ask anyone that follows french league and they will tell you marseilles was morelike the arsenal of george graham this season…So 16 goals in a team bereft of creativity is a very good haul in my book. Get him in and then Bony and we would have 3 different type of struikers on our books wich would permit us to change our attacking style during games….
