This season hasn’t only been a bit unique because of absolutely no action in the transfer market, but it’s also because there’s been a dearth of real news about the club.
Mike Ashley – has not made fans laugh with Kinnear appointment
In any summer there’s always going to be some daft reports about players we may be after, but we haven’t heard much at all coming from of the club.
And maybe no transfers and being eerily silent are related, but it’s been so quiet this summer, with very little happening apart from the Joe Kinnear nonsense, which has cheesed off (so to speak)a lot of Newcastle fans – so much so that some want their money back on their season tickets.
It seems that Newcastle cannot keep their head above water and controversy, and to have signed Joe Kinnear means we are very likely to have some negative headlines in the press this season – if his actions and words in his first week as Director of Football are anything to go by.
Of course we would hope Joe would keep a diplomatic silence – as executives should be able to do – but little to no chance on that one.
And we still expect a new Managing Director to be appointed, who well be the executive face of Newcastle United to the fans and the press.
.
If we don’t appoint somebody to replace Derek LLambias it means that Joe Kinnear could be that face to the press.
Heaven forbid – says it all.
Now having said there’s nothing much going on at Newcastle, watch us sign somebody like Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang this afternoon.
That would be good.

‘…there’s been a dearth of real news about the club.. ‘
Is that because those in the club are doing their job correctly and not leaking to the press, which is the way it should be?

Well, we were. It’s common knowledge. We definitely undercooked it last summer and maybe we planned to buy MYM in January, but Debuchy, Goofy and Sissoko were planned for this summer from what I understand. Now we need to make sure that the signings we need this summer are made this summer.

Comment #12I think ash may want out and that’s the real reason llambias walked.
it seems as if llambiais was behind the 8 year deals for that joke word stability and also the wonga deal, both of which apparently ash was non too pleased about.
It could only happen to us when we do have a good squad and only need a couple of good signings and a good manager and we’be off and running.

Sod the damn stats, this isn’t Championship Manager here. Look at the way Cabaye plays, he’s a playmaker so that certainly counts as creative to me. Ben Arfa is clearly an exciting player but I’ve said that we need another player in that mould.
The kind of striker we need is a top striker that would interest CL clubs, it’s unrealistic that signing could have been lined up when we weren’t sure what league we would be in. The signings for Villa and Dunderland are either decent squad players or youngsters. We don’t really need the former.
As for RB, we also have Tav, Santon and Saylor who can play there. MYM can play LB and Raylor should have been able to cover RB there too if he wasn’t so unlucky. GK? I forget the name of the youngster but they need to assess whether he’s good enough or not. I wouldn’t say that 3rd choice goalie is anything to worry about…

It’s good we agree. They told us directly that the January signings were a catch-up job, and they have already had the credit for that.
I hope they don’t now start saying, “but we gave you this summer’s signings back in January.”

Comment #16Do we really need so many new players? I think it would be enough with a LW/Striker and a CF. And replace Cabs if he goes.. Santon would be a good LW…

If we actively pursued debuchy last summer how could he of been a target for this summer?
And if MYM was a target for this summer then it shows what an utter joke our system is seeing we needed a CB for bear on two years
Same for goofy a CF was needed BEFORE ba left
If these were all targets for this summer it’s shows MA is happy to blag his way from season to season on bare bones

Comment #20I reckon that we will sell cabaye and ben arfa to PSG think they will go for both players and we will be left up the swanny again by the club and aye your right they will say jan signings where for the summer aye right ashley so maybe our season ticket sales should be held until you do sign quality good players you tight git

Yes. I think they expected a few of the youth players to break through into the first team, but they didn’t.
If we sign a striker and another attacking player, then I think we’ll have the squad where it should be.

Comment #23The january signings may have been our summer targets brought in early, we would have been relegated with out them. But our static team badly needs revamping. Imo its not all down to Pardew half our squad arnt good enough, so unless there’s changes expect more of the same next season.

Comment #24I think it’s reasonable to assume that a bid will be lodged for Cabaye, because of his standing in France, but it’s no means certain that it would be accepted, especially on an initial bid.
The dilemma for Cabaye is whether his loyalty to his French colleagues (and good friends) is greater than another challenge and possibly more money elsewhere.

There was nothing creative about cabaye last season mate, nothing at all he couldn’t even pass and seeing as we don’t play him in a role were he can be creative then yeah I’d say we need to bring in some creativity
As for the list of players who can play RB tav is not prem standard at all, Taylor is out for the season so why count him? Stevie Taylor is injury prone in a position where were short of quality so why count on him as cover in two positions, MYM at LB? He’s needed at CB santon at RB? He’s played there once for us due to not having enough cover!!!
Of course we need to strengthen our squad players we have no quality in depth at all

Because the club seemed to make the decision that they wanted to give some of the youngsters their chances. Simpson and Tav could have been the RBs, Campbell could have been a striker. We also didn’t know that Ba would leave for sure until January.
I think a CB was a Jan target anyway.
It seems the people at our club can’t win. They don’t give the youth their chances and they get slated, they sign players and they should have signed them earlier…
Football isn’t an exact science, they have admitted they got it wrong. If Fergie, Tav and Campbell had done really well and we’d have got top 10, we would be saying it was a great decision.
What I want is for them to not screw up this summer. There’s 2 months left of that.

Cabaye was off form last season due to injuries and other issues, we all know that. Sissoko should be able to fill in next season and be even better after a pre-season.
We have 4 CBs, about right for us, then Debuchy and Santon as FBs with Fergie and Tav as cover, plus the main CBs as necessary or even Jonas. Sure, maybe another FB as cover would be nice but hardly a priority!

Right back is a position where we don’t appear to have much cover. Saylor is not very good in the position. Anita has filled in before but he is far too slight for that position. Tavernier is good going forward but is very naive at defending. The much maligned and now departed Simpson was a very good stand-in.

Comment #30I just think its a liberty taken by the club on its supporters year in year out its always been the same going back 50 years that I know off
with the exception of keegan we have never had a stable club its always been a laughing stock of the press and tv, I even remember the time when match of the day got banned from SJP jimmy hill insulted the toon and cant remember if it was westwood or someone else who banned them
I remember when ashley took over the club he said he will invest 20 million a season into the team so hes been here 6 years and hes spent nowhere near 120 million maybe on the debt aye but bugger all else
I have decided not to renew my season ticket for next season on the grounds of fraud by the club into taking advantage of the fans am not putting up with crap tactics from an adiot manager and then listen to kinnerbasher going on and on as far as am concerned ive got sky tv and euro tv to so sod it

Think 99.9% could of predicted that tav and Campbell would break into the first team, the club let the youth down by not organising proper loan spells for them nothing to do with the first team at all
The reason the board can’t win is because they never get it right, or half right
Do you really think fans would mind slow business or stadium renaming or any of that if it genuinely came across as progression?
Nothing MA has done has been progressive, it’s been half ars3d lazy and not in the interest of anyone really
Like starting to re camp the youth, releasing half the team then just stopping completley

Comment #36Nufc.Com carried a quote from Mike Ashley the other day, dating back to when he first tried to sell the club.
To paraphrase it, it said: “I came into this as a fan. I didn’t know much about football. Maybe I’m not very good at this. I’ve made mistakes, and I’ve lost my money. I’m sorry.”
I’d give him credit for signing some good players, though sometimes too late. All of his bloopers aside, his main failure has been to invest in the backroom know-how to forge a progressive team.
Maybe he has been blinded with science while trying to get to the root cause of that, and because he stubbornly believed his business model could be grafted onto a football one.
The man needs good advice. And he needs to learn where to find it.

Comment #37At RB, we have Saylor, Tav, Santon, Jonas and Raylor (when fit) to provide cover. Tav is old enough that he’s either ready for some action or should be sold.
But that area still isn’t a priority for me.
Our squad is much better than it was last summer, with the exception of Ba. Replace him and we’re in very good nick for top 8.
