Joe Kinnear wants to move quickly for Newcastle’s transfer targets, and it looks like Joe is trying to persuade owner Mike Ashley to put in an improved bid for St. Etienne striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – Newcastle will increase their bid?
The Newcastle Journal is reporting that Kinnear is keen to get Newcastle’s transfer season going with a first signing this week, to coincide with the pre-season training starting on Thursday.
There are a number of clubs interested in the 24 year-old Aubameyang, but reports suggest the striker, who had a great season for St. Etienne last term, has been impressed by Newcastle’s resolve to sign him and the fact that owner Mike Ashley made a personal visit to France with Chief Scout Graham Carr, to watch him play last February.
And it will not have gone unnoticed that Newcastle have 10 Frenchmen currently at the Tyneside club, and the Gabon International could settle down very quickly if he arrived this summer.
Kinnear knows he has got off to a terrible start in his new job ay Newcastle, and that the proof of the pudding is in the eating, and it would benefit the new Director of Football and the owner, if they can deliver Newcastle’s number one transfer target this summer.
In fact it would be a coup and Newcastle’s biggest signing under owner Mike Ashley..
Newcastle were supposed to have bid £15M recently for the striker, but were outbid by rich Russian club Anzhi, although it’s not at all clear that Aubameyang wants to play his football in Russia.
St. Etienne will also be hoping that a bidding develops for the player, which is the last thing Newcastle want.
But it seems that Newcastle could well go in with an improved bid for the player who scored 19 goals last season in France.
We hope so, and we hope it’s this week.
