Newcastle Could Turn Their Attention To This Nigerian Striker

10:30 pm, Tuesday, July 2nd, 2013 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 88 Comments

We had reported back in May, that Nigerian International striker Brown Ideye wanted a move to Newcastle United, and that maybe Newcastle were even interested in the player.

Brown Ideye

Brown Ideye – wants to join Newcastle

So if we do in fact miss out on Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, which looks likely, Newcastle could turn to the 24 year-old Nigerian, who would be a cheaper option, and that would appeal to owner Mike Ashley.

Hootan Ahmadi is Ideye’s agent and this is what he had to say in our report in mid-May:

“There has been a lot of interest from English clubs, but Newcastle would be Brown’s preferred choice for a number of reasons.” “They have a good fan-base and play an attacking style of football. “

“He has good knowledge of the club and of the Premier League. Brown would love to test himself at that level.” “He would like to move to England and we will look at all our options in the summer.”

Ideye had an excellent African Cup of Nations in January, which saw his country win the trophy, and that, along with his good goal goal-scoring ability has several Premier League clubs interested in the player.

He moved to Sochaux in 2010 from Swiss club Neuchâtel Xamax, so he’s already played for one Newcastle.

And Ideye played 39 times with 17 goals in France, before joining Dynamo Kiev for £7M two years ago, and he’s played 75 times for the Ukraine side with 34 goals.

And in the just completed Confederations Cup, where Brazil showed they could be favorites to win a sixth FIFA World Cup next summer when they host the tournament, Ideye played three times for Nigeria, and he now has 19 caps and three goals for his country.

Maybe Ideye would be a good buy for maybe £8M, but we’re still not sure whether the 5’11″ striker would be good enough for Newcastle.

What do you think?

No need for rants just yet lads…only day 2 of 60 odd so plenty time for JFK to prove us all wrong.

he’s lulling us into a false sense of despair and will come up trumps shortly…all part of the drama!

2 good centre forwards, one very good centre mid to replace Cabs, a good winger and a centre back…all in good time

I would like us to bring some Premier League experience in. I feel the balance is somewhat off in and around our current squad.

At the club at the moment we are very short in this department I feel.

Squad members in and around the first team pool with little to no PL experience:

Ferguson – Likely to be loaned
Sammy Ameobi – Likely to be loaned

    Experienced settled players available:

    S Taylor
    Williamson – May move on.
    Ben Arfa
Shola – Likely to move on
Anita (1 year, bit part player.)

I’d love to see 2-3 more experienced players from this league brought in that speak English. Just to balance it out a bit and give us that experience in depth if and when injuries occur.

    F*** off Sunderland!

  • 8 sparky55 // Jul 2, 2013 at 10:43 PM

forget about PEA…think left field and completely out of the box and you’ll be a lot closer than all the idiot transfer rumour web-sites.

Carr has told Mashley and goofball who to go after and all will be revealed very soon but don’t expect any players costing over 8 million…that’s not Carr’s job…he finds good cheap talent we can turn into profit…that’s the name of Ashleys game

  • 9 pizzicatochan // Jul 2, 2013 at 10:43 PM

Toon-Prodigy, I think Bigi could be considered as PL experienced by now, at least more than Debuchy and the other French players.

  • 10 Jail for Ashley // Jul 2, 2013 at 10:46 PM

Why should we despair, our squad and manager are probably good enough to stave off relegation and we can blunder along in the PL for another season glad in the knowledge we won’t do a Leeds !

If we miss out on Aubemeyang then we have to go for Cardozo even though hes 30

  • 13 Mister Tuff // Jul 2, 2013 at 10:49 PM

The only definite in the last week or so is that El Gourdo has clearly not told Joking Ear to stop his interviews to the press. The first interviews were cringeworthy and caused embarrassment -then low and behold he is at it again making a fool of himself and the club. I have to assume that as Joking Ear has not desisted -there must
have been no embargo placed upon him by El Gourdo -the inference being that nothing is amiss.
I suspect when Percy does his first press conference -the agenda – will be set by the journos – they will be asking Percy about Joking Ear -his rants, dodgy claims, whether he feels at risk, transfer policy, who is getting the boot etc etc. The sum total of this will be further bad headlines
on the back pages -and it’s all self inflicted.
Wendy Taylor at the club must be pulling her hair out at the way these idiots are conducting themselves.
I am disappointed as it looks we did not get PEA – I hope we are not going to get a load of Championship
    level players.

omg ,sessognon, or how ever you spell it the sunderland striker apparently to newcastle 6 million almost a done deal from a reliable source ,have we ever signed a sunderland player

  • 18 GeordieDan // Jul 2, 2013 at 10:51 PM

Don’t rate Ideye in the same class as Aubamayang.

He’s also too similar to Cisse as well in his playing style and he’s not particularly fast either-in other words definitely not what we want.

And as for Bent? Please. Is that really where we want to go?

Ambition left NUFC the day Ashley appeared. :(

  • 19 Sazzer // Jul 2, 2013 at 10:51 PM

You forgot Krul, R.Taylor, Gosling, Obertan, Elliott. I personally don’t care about experience we have too much of it and not enough top quality. I prefer English players if all else being equal otherwise I prefer better players.

  • 23 Galtierez // Jul 2, 2013 at 10:54 PM

@17 Bracewell, Venison if he was as good value as those two it would be a great signing.

  • 24 keeganjr // Jul 2, 2013 at 10:54 PM

we are a weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee club beyond.. just sitting on the fence, monitoring everything.. Mr Brown there looked completly utter shite at the confederations cup.. him and bent will get us too the championship.. Pea and Bony for under 15mill?? i would get both on board for 22-25mill? where are we going?? hmmm where on a highway to hell

  • 25 NUFCarter // Jul 2, 2013 at 10:55 PM

how olds sessegnon, 28? he deteriorated last season, don’t rate him anymore.

  • 26 sparky55 // Jul 2, 2013 at 10:57 PM

Sessegnon was playing in a shit team last year just like us…I’d have Sessegnon in a flash…he’d be the perfect partner for Cisse

  • 27 NUFCarter // Jul 2, 2013 at 11:00 PM

who but us has signed not one player yet, in the premier league?

  • 28 Galtierez // Jul 2, 2013 at 11:01 PM

Sessegnon, 340 games 50 goals, 29yo and 5′ 6″. Another small midfielder so can’t see it. We need more height.

  • 29 toonarmydownsouth // Jul 2, 2013 at 11:01 PM

From the telegraph incase anyone missed our DOFs latest claims

Who the hell will we attract with this deluded incompetent wa nker in charge of transfers

Here’s a digest of Kinnear’s claims, and the facts.

JK: “Every top club in the land has got one [Director of Football].

Fact: A number of clubs do have them, but the likes of Arsenal and Manchester United are just two of those who do not.

JK: “I have been a manager for 35 years …”

Fact: Kinnear took his first assistant manager’s job in 1983 and his last job as a manager at Newcastle ended in February 2009. He only became a manager in English football at Wimbledon in 1992.

JK: “I have won every award there is in football as a player.”

Fact: Kinnear won four honours at Tottenham: the FA Cup in 1967; the UEFA Cup in 1972 and the League Cup on two occasions (1971 and 1973). He has never won the league title, nor has he played in a major international tournament.

JK: “I’m lending my experience as a manager for all those years … two years at Nottingham Forest.

Fact:: Kinnear was manager at Nottingham Forest for less than a year and quit with the club in the Championship relegation zone

JK: “Two years winning promotion at Luton …”

Fact: Kinnear was relegated in his first season at Luton Town but did manage to guide the club to promotion the following year.

JK: “Almost two years at Newcastle …

Fact: Kinnear was caretaker manager of Newcastle United for five months in the 2008/9 season and on sick leave for another three.

  • 30 Sazzer // Jul 2, 2013 at 11:01 PM

Interesting. Paul Bracewell, and Lionel Pérez. Shay Given was loaned out to Sunderland the year before we signed him from Blackburn.

  • 31 Yorkgeordie // Jul 2, 2013 at 11:02 PM

The ‘head and shoulders’ comment from Kinnear has given him a nickname in my mind. I will always think of him as ‘DANDRUFF’. Nobody wants it and would do anything to get rid of it.

  • 32 Toon-Prodigy // Jul 2, 2013 at 11:03 PM

13 games for me is not experienced in this league, especially mostly off the bench. Each to their own though mate ;)

I havn’t mentioned the keepers because I feel we are ok in this department, and won’t be signing anyone for the position.

Ryan Taylor won’t future next season due to injury.

On Gosling and Obertan, I just don’t rate them and don’t think they will future much next season, that’s if they are even here at all mate.

Inexperience cost us greatly last season. Our youngsters wern’t really upto the job up until January to cover our first team players.

I just feel we would benefit with boosting the squad with players of this ilk rather than anymore youngsters or potentially good players. Quality players in the age range of 25-29 with a number of years experience playing in this league.

  • 33 Sazzer // Jul 2, 2013 at 11:03 PM

    Everton haven’t signed anyone.

  • 34 jimmysmith // Jul 2, 2013 at 11:03 PM

One top striker if Ash can stomach negotiating at market value otherwise its just a body in to shore us up. Others in, but only if they are bargains.

Reasonable chance we go into the new season with just the addition of Darren Bent, even so, we’d still likely finish top 8 and that’s the main reason the owner might keep his hands out of his pockets.

  • 35 mikeashleyisamackem // Jul 2, 2013 at 11:04 PM

di canio wants rid apparently carr scouted him for a couple a seasons before sunderland signed him ,also man city player we are intrested in apparently jack rodwell if cabaye leaves

  • 40 mikeashleyisamackem // Jul 2, 2013 at 11:11 PM

has newcastle ever signed a sunderland player for anyone who may no

  • 41 NUFCarter // Jul 2, 2013 at 11:11 PM

Everton are on the verge of signing Kone and Alcaraz, whereas we haven’t seemed to do even make a bid for a player.

  • 42 jimmysmith // Jul 2, 2013 at 11:11 PM

Hopefully any prospective new signing might not be as acutely aware as we are of just how barking mad Joe is, then again I suppose the cats gonna be out of the bag the moment he enters a room.

  • 43 pizzicatochan // Jul 2, 2013 at 11:11 PM

mikeashleyisamackem, if it’s true that we are after Rodwell, I’ll say it’s one of the best coups. We should also keep Gosling since they played with each other @ Everton.

Need Scott Sinclair and Lescott too.

…and James Milner should be coming back to the toon too, now I think about it.

  • 44 NUFCarter // Jul 2, 2013 at 11:12 PM

we have never signed a Sunderland player because they are normally all shite.

  • 45 toonarmydownsouth // Jul 2, 2013 at 11:13 PM

Saw that. and we are linked with Matty Taylor.

  • 50 jimmysmith // Jul 2, 2013 at 11:19 PM

Yup, that 4 and Dzeko would be lubly jubly and made to order. They could have Cabs and HBA in a direct swap, no bother, easy peasy.

  • 51 Sazzer // Jul 2, 2013 at 11:19 PM

It’s a valid opinion. I hope we don’t by average players just because they have experience, few extra pounds if all else being equal fine. But I prefer long-run quality.

Look at Swansea – Michu, De Guzman, Chico, Korean kid played well from first minute. No excuses. No psychological mumbo jumbo.

Mbiwa, Debuchy, Sissoko and Gouffran have plenty of experience from L1 and National team. More so than someone like Hazard and he did rather well since first minute.

  • 52 Newcastle Brown Alien // Jul 2, 2013 at 11:20 PM

Right, so we signed perch for £1mil in the championship. We get promoted, and perch gets better and better (arguably our most improved player). And we sell him for less? MIKE, WHERE IS YOUR BUSINESS BRAIN WHEN WE ACTUALLY NEED IT?

  • 53 jimmysmith // Jul 2, 2013 at 11:25 PM

last year of his contract and a signal of our intent to continue to upgrade, or the first manifest evidence of Joes actual demential, take your pick.

  • 54 Sazzer // Jul 2, 2013 at 11:26 PM

Reported it earlier. Strange one for sure.

  • 55 Toon-Prodigy // Jul 2, 2013 at 11:32 PM

No doubt players can hit the ground running.

They can be outstanding one season with the drive and determination to do well, then can be equally poor the next. As we have seen with Toon players over the last few seasons. Cabaye, Tiote, Cisse. I think these players will do particularly well next season for their experiences so far.

I still think though, when we are missing certain first team players we lack the maturity, skill and experienced player of this ilk to bring in.

For me anyway, the best and most consistent type of player in the long run, is the experienced, mature player who is familiar with his team mates and surroundings on and off the pitch.

I reckon if we get PEA it will b this week because if we dont hes goin to germany to play for a champions league team so to most peoples mind it wud b a no brainer but he want a move 2 england so i think we shud take advantage of that and get him however realisticly i think we will get bent and this kid that this articles about as he costs too much 4 ashley

  • 58 Sazzer // Jul 2, 2013 at 11:40 PM

You can’t buy what you are asking for.

Any player bought from another will not slot in perfectly Adam, Allen, Downing, Carroll…

  • 59 Jamiemac // Jul 2, 2013 at 11:40 PM

PEA has previously stated he wants first team football not money and his first choice in England. I’d be bewildered if we didn’t even try to sign him this summer especially after we bid in January. I genuinely think he’d choose us over Dortmund. Gotta be something going on.

  • 60 beddersmag // Jul 2, 2013 at 11:48 PM

Signed bracewell from mackems didnt we? Why am i also thinking of venison in red and white?

  • 61 Sazzer // Jul 2, 2013 at 11:49 PM

PEA sign for Dortmund. Here are some old quotes from him:

Today, there are major championships such as Germany and England. I see myself in one of these countries but my dream is still to play in Spain.

“I still have much work to go to a big club like Real Madrid. But I’m leaning more towards a move to Germany because it is a league that is improving.

  • 62 Mister Tuff // Jul 2, 2013 at 11:50 PM

jamiemac -@59 I agree with your surprise that a follow up bid has apparently not materialised for PEA. He has got better and more well known since January – so fee would rise. Could old Joe have put the block on, did Ashley put the block on -because of higher cost. I presume Carr wanted him -as he scouted him in the first place, or was it Percy.
    All very strange.

  • 63 beddersmag // Jul 2, 2013 at 11:53 PM

Dont see problem with bent. For 5-8m at 29 and proven goal return in the prem. Some folk saying 3m max. Most want to take a punt on some random untested foreign kid. He wouldnt be my first choice but proven players who guarantee goals dont come around at that price very often. Buy him now and if we can get in a youngster with massive potential too then all the better. As it is we need more than one player who can score goals. Its a no brainer surely?

  • 64 valle // Jul 2, 2013 at 11:53 PM

So we go for Ideye and Bent because we wont pay the ekstra mil for PEA… Im so sick and tired of this club and I understand full well how loyal lifetime fans have had enough… If those are the type of players we sign allot of people will have had enoug, me included.

  • 69 Sazzer // Jul 3, 2013 at 12:03 AM

More important than a player that can score goals is two or more people that can create chances while at the same time contributing to our leaking defence.

We had a goal scorer in BA and we still didn’t play well for most of the season.

  • 70 toonarmydownsouth // Jul 3, 2013 at 12:03 AM

Apologies, I know im not explaining myself very clear here, im on the move at work. But I think you get the just of where im coming from and the kind of players I want to see brought in.

There is no gaurantee with any kind of player, but I feel we are missing THESE kind of players at the Toon, the quantity of them is small I think. If injuries occur.

Proven experienced mature players that have experience in this league such as:

    Ben Arfa

We have a lot of potentially good prospects for the future but are either reletively new or inexperienced such as:

Bigirmana, Ferguson, Tavernier, Campbell, Haidara, Sammy Ameobi, Santon, M’Biwa, Gouffran, Sissoko.

I’v put Santon in there because I hold the belief he is young and has alot to learn and alot to prove as yet.

I’v got to dash but I’ll try and catch up when I can.

  • 76 Sazzer // Jul 3, 2013 at 12:11 AM

They fee is really low. Maybe we got hit by our own medicine for once because his contract is running out.

In the bigger picture we already have a replacement for him in Mbiwa. It opens door for a better player coming in through the door.

  • 77 NUFCarter // Jul 3, 2013 at 12:14 AM

I feel sorry for Carr. Hes spent years scouting these players yet we are rejecting them all and would rather have the likes of Bent, Tomkins Matt Taylor and Anthony Pilkington

  • 80 toonarmydownsouth // Jul 3, 2013 at 12:16 AM

I think mbiwa is more than just a perch upgrade mate he’s a starting CB, given our injury crisis last season it’s seems stupid to give away such a versatile and hard working squad player

  • 83 Jamiemac // Jul 3, 2013 at 12:24 AM

To be fair we don’t know what and how much the bonuses are. If the initial fee is only €13m as reported then i imagine there are a fair amount of bonuses and future fees

  • 84 TurkishFan101 // Jul 3, 2013 at 12:27 AM

Before I go off lads i said this before. It was all speculation about us going for PEA, its all the press rumours so us fans can think that we were actually after him just like previous targets; luuk de jong, Gamerio, Gervinho. Did you know Mike Ashley pays journalists to make speculation up in North East newspapers? Mark Douglas, Steve Wraith, people over in TalkSport.

€13 million basically £11 million… What a bargain if thats fully done.

  • 85 Sazzer // Jul 3, 2013 at 12:35 AM

I agree, but I count playing in CL and Euros as experience on highest level and playing enough seasons in L1 as well.

Sissoko, Debuchy, Mbiwa, Gouffran have more games as professional players than Simpson, Tiote, S.Taylor. Not in PL sure, but still. Santon have 55 games in PL. Cabaye 60. Gosling 38.

Cabaye had 191 games in L1 when he came over. Debuchy 233 games.

It’s quality that matters. We need better quality players on our bench.

People thinking coz we look like we have missed out on aubameyang that the only other options are ideye and bent. I’m sure before we started bringing in the ligue 1 players you never considered them options. Keep the faith that we will pull off signing somebody. Dunno who and dunno where from. Bent I wouldn’t mind as long as he is cheap and on low wages but I would like more players than just him, especially with people going out
