We had reported back in May, that Nigerian International striker Brown Ideye wanted a move to Newcastle United, and that maybe Newcastle were even interested in the player.
Brown Ideye – wants to join Newcastle
So if we do in fact miss out on Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, which looks likely, Newcastle could turn to the 24 year-old Nigerian, who would be a cheaper option, and that would appeal to owner Mike Ashley.
Hootan Ahmadi is Ideye’s agent and this is what he had to say in our report in mid-May:
“There has been a lot of interest from English clubs, but Newcastle would be Brown’s preferred choice for a number of reasons.” “They have a good fan-base and play an attacking style of football. “
“He has good knowledge of the club and of the Premier League. Brown would love to test himself at that level.” “He would like to move to England and we will look at all our options in the summer.”
Ideye had an excellent African Cup of Nations in January, which saw his country win the trophy, and that, along with his good goal goal-scoring ability has several Premier League clubs interested in the player.
He moved to Sochaux in 2010 from Swiss club Neuchâtel Xamax, so he’s already played for one Newcastle.
And Ideye played 39 times with 17 goals in France, before joining Dynamo Kiev for £7M two years ago, and he’s played 75 times for the Ukraine side with 34 goals.
And in the just completed Confederations Cup, where Brazil showed they could be favorites to win a sixth FIFA World Cup next summer when they host the tournament, Ideye played three times for Nigeria, and he now has 19 caps and three goals for his country.
Maybe Ideye would be a good buy for maybe £8M, but we’re still not sure whether the 5’11” striker would be good enough for Newcastle.

Comment #42Hopefully any prospective new signing might not be as acutely aware as we are of just how barking mad Joe is, then again I suppose the cats gonna be out of the bag the moment he enters a room.

Comment #43mikeashleyisamackem, if it’s true that we are after Rodwell, I’ll say it’s one of the best coups. We should also keep Gosling since they played with each other @ Everton.
Need Scott Sinclair and Lescott too.
…and James Milner should be coming back to the toon too, now I think about it.

It’s a valid opinion. I hope we don’t by average players just because they have experience, few extra pounds if all else being equal fine. But I prefer long-run quality.
Look at Swansea – Michu, De Guzman, Chico, Korean kid played well from first minute. No excuses. No psychological mumbo jumbo.
Mbiwa, Debuchy, Sissoko and Gouffran have plenty of experience from L1 and National team. More so than someone like Hazard and he did rather well since first minute.

Comment #52Right, so we signed perch for £1mil in the championship. We get promoted, and perch gets better and better (arguably our most improved player). And we sell him for less? MIKE, WHERE IS YOUR BUSINESS BRAIN WHEN WE ACTUALLY NEED IT?

No doubt players can hit the ground running.
They can be outstanding one season with the drive and determination to do well, then can be equally poor the next. As we have seen with Toon players over the last few seasons. Cabaye, Tiote, Cisse. I think these players will do particularly well next season for their experiences so far.
I still think though, when we are missing certain first team players we lack the maturity, skill and experienced player of this ilk to bring in.
For me anyway, the best and most consistent type of player in the long run, is the experienced, mature player who is familiar with his team mates and surroundings on and off the pitch.

You can’t buy what you are asking for.
Any player bought from another will not slot in perfectly Adam, Allen, Downing, Carroll…

Comment #59PEA has previously stated he wants first team football not money and his first choice in England. I’d be bewildered if we didn’t even try to sign him this summer especially after we bid in January. I genuinely think he’d choose us over Dortmund. Gotta be something going on.

Comment #61PEA sign for Dortmund. Here are some old quotes from him:
Today, there are major championships such as Germany and England. I see myself in one of these countries but my dream is still to play in Spain.
“I still have much work to go to a big club like Real Madrid. But I’m leaning more towards a move to Germany because it is a league that is improving.

Comment #62jamiemac -@59 I agree with your surprise that a follow up bid has apparently not materialised for PEA. He has got better and more well known since January – so fee would rise. Could old Joe have put the block on, did Ashley put the block on -because of higher cost. I presume Carr wanted him -as he scouted him in the first place, or was it Percy.
All very strange.

Comment #63Dont see problem with bent. For 5-8m at 29 and proven goal return in the prem. Some folk saying 3m max. Most want to take a punt on some random untested foreign kid. He wouldnt be my first choice but proven players who guarantee goals dont come around at that price very often. Buy him now and if we can get in a youngster with massive potential too then all the better. As it is we need more than one player who can score goals. Its a no brainer surely?

Completley agree for such a measley fee we lose valuable cover in 4 positions in LB RB CB and a more than competent midfielder
Can’t imagine he’s on high wages or makes a fuss about not being a starter

I thought this was meant to be our number 1 target and we didnt even put a bid especially as 13 mil would have been accepted.
Graham Carr must be pulling his hair out.

Apologies, I know im not explaining myself very clear here, im on the move at work. But I think you get the just of where im coming from and the kind of players I want to see brought in.
There is no gaurantee with any kind of player, but I feel we are missing THESE kind of players at the Toon, the quantity of them is small I think. If injuries occur.
Proven experienced mature players that have experience in this league such as:
Ben Arfa
Cabaye
Jonas
Colo
Taylor
Simpson
Tiote
We have a lot of potentially good prospects for the future but are either reletively new or inexperienced such as:
Bigirmana, Ferguson, Tavernier, Campbell, Haidara, Sammy Ameobi, Santon, M’Biwa, Gouffran, Sissoko.
I’v put Santon in there because I hold the belief he is young and has alot to learn and alot to prove as yet.
I’v got to dash but I’ll try and catch up when I can.

They fee is really low. Maybe we got hit by our own medicine for once because his contract is running out.
In the bigger picture we already have a replacement for him in Mbiwa. It opens door for a better player coming in through the door.

I think mbiwa is more than just a perch upgrade mate he’s a starting CB, given our injury crisis last season it’s seems stupid to give away such a versatile and hard working squad player
