We had reported on Sunday that Newcastle had put a bid in for French defensive midfielder William Vainqueur on the last day of the January transfer window, and that he was now buying out the last three years of his contract at Standard Liege, and would become available as a free agent.
William Vainqueur – Newcastle have passed up on defensive midfielder?
On Sunday, the Belgium newspaper Walloon reported the player had bought out his contract at Standard Liege, and we wondered if this had been done in collusion with Newcastle.
But the Newcastle Journal today is reporting Newcastle have passed up on the chance to sign Vainqueur, even though Graham Carr watched the player regularly last season.
William’s agent is Meissa N’Diaye, and this is what he told the Journal today”
“There is no interest from Newcastle,” “The question of whether he would be interested in the club is not relevant as they have not approached him.”
But maybe that we have Cheick Tiote, Vurnon Anita and Bigirimana, who can play in the defensive midfield role, that position is not a priority for Newcastle this summer?
